  1. I'm betting both Bradley and Soddy Daisy will be there!
  2. Bradley County is also closed.
  3. Score Correction: 103-Ben Johnson ( maj. dec. Jay Adamson (ND) 10-2
  4. Walkenvol, How can a wrestler be certified at 2 different weight classes? I thought you could only be certified at 1 weight class, and you have to wrestle at least half of your matches at that weight class to be able to wrestle in that weight at the state tournament!
  5. Soddy has wrestled Baylor twice this year and lost 36-21 in the first match of the season and lost 40-24 at the McEachern Duals. I don't think Soddy should be ranked ahead of Baylor or McCallie. Baylor's record is 22-2 on the year according to their web-site.
  6. Does anyone know the score of this match yet?
  7. OK , now that the real Irishdad has responded, and shown what appears to be his true colors, I will give you names that I purposely left out with my original post. If I had noticed that this was started by an imposter Irishdad, I would not have posted a response. Since you asked, the wrestler from Father Ryan was Cromwell Stewart, the Baylor wrestler was Matt Provenzano. This was in the state duals final in 2000 at Clarksville. And yes, he left the match and went directly to the hospital. Everyone in the stands and coaches saw the whole thing. Both officials had their backs turned and were walking back to the center of the mat when "the incident" took place. Since neither official saw what happened, they awarded the match to Stewart. The day this happened, it was not certain that Provenzano would be able to compete in the state tournament the next week, but he recovered and beat Stewart in the finals. Let's also not forget the Ryan wrestler who headbutted a Baylor wrestler at the duals in 2002 and got thrown out of the Duals and could not compete at the state tournament because of this infraction. If you want names here, I will have to get these to you later. Pat Simpson is a good coach, but he did let the incident go in 2000. He almost tore the other kid's head off in 2002, so I did not mean to insult him! Since you were so quick to jump on Baylor, I felt like you may need a little reminder, that "people who live in glass houses, should not throw stones!" Yes, this thread is about fans, and as you can see, that incident in 2000 is most likely where Baylor Fans got labeled obnoxious. When you see one of your kids get hurt on purpose, and the other kid gets away with it, it is hard not to get vocal! If you think that you can get on this web site, and start bashing a dedicated group of parents without getting called on the carpet about it....think again! If you have seen Baylor wrestle in the last 2 years, they shake the opposing coaches hand after every match. Baylor used to have a policy of only shaking hands after a dual match was over. By the way, my eyes are blue! But this thread makes me see Red! Coach T should close this thread!
  8. OK, Irishdad, I'll bite! I think you just stepped over the line. Let's go back to the State Duals about 4 years ago. Worst case of sportsmanship I have ever seen in high school sports! A Father Ryan wrestler takes a cheap shot to the throat of a Baylor wrestler out of bounds, under the scorers table, and neither one of the officials see's what has happened, and the Baylor wrestler has to go to the hospital. If this is the kind of sportsmanship that Father Ryan teaches...I'll pass! If one of the Baylor wrestlers had done something like this under Coach Worsham, he might not have made it back to the bus alive and would have been kicked off of the team. I also feel that Coach Morgan and Coach Van Deusen would have also dismissed a wrestler for such blatent unsportsmanship! If you want to call Baylor's fans obnoxious, this is where it all started!

    Grissom runs

Bamagrappler, Thanks for sheding some light on this.Baylor has had some very good matches with Grissom in the past at both the Brett Warren Invitational and at the McEachern Duals. Just wanted to know what was the reason for leaving early? Thanks for the reply! Great work on your Alabama wrestling website....it is First Class!
  10. BuckLateral, Unfortunately, there will be no Leen vs Lane rematch. Baylor and Soddy are not going to be at any more of the same tournaments. Leen and Lane will have to be content at being 1-1. Baylor will be competing at Greeneville this weekend, along with McCallie. This should provide some very interesting matchups. This is the first time that McCallie has participated in this tournament.
  11. Walkenvol, Why did Ryan Scott and Spencer Manley not wrestle in the Father Ryan Tournament? Looks like McCallie might have won if their two best wrestlers had been in the line up!
  12. The tournament was today at McEachern. Baylor defeated Soddy in a semi-final match, and beat McEachern in the finals. Baylor sophmore Derek Walker also defeated senior Paul Campbell of Soddy at 189! Leen controlled Lane the entire match. Lane scored on an escape and a penalty point. Leen had him stacked twice and should have received near fall points. The match was not close!
  13. Walkenvol, I thought one of the best matches of the day was at 165 between #8 ranked Nick Passolano of Iowa State & Chris Stith of Virginia Tech. Stith was leading just about the whole match, but Passolano pulled out a reverse with about 3-4 seconds in the match to win 8-7? Stith scored first , and they went back and forth for 6 full minutes. Great scrambles and unbelievable athleticism from both wrestlers. I look for Stith to have a great season, he is quick as a cat, and was able to shoot on Passolano almost at will. Passolano looked like he was in trouble the whole match, but true to his #8 ranking, he never lost his cool and pulled out the win. How about the Paulson twins for Iowa State. Both true freshmen ranked #5 at 149(Trent) and #5 at 157(Travis). I bet these brothers will be NCAA champions! This was a great day for wrestling in Chattanooga! Go Mocs!
  14. In the Lane vs Leen match: Lane scored first, 2-0 after the first period. Lane chose down in second, Leen cut him to go down 3-0 after two periods. Leen chose down in the third, they are up to a neutral position, and Leen shot and got a takedown, but he did not get a point for escape, score is 3-2. Leen has to cut again and goes down 4-2. Leen gets another good shot, but Lane locks up and rides out the third period. This was a very close match with each scoring one takedown. Leen very easily could have gotten an escape point and the match could have gone to OT. I thought the official did a good job overall for the entire match. This could be the best re-match at the McCallie Invitational!
  15. Well said KingLuke! Rob was way off on this prediction!
  16. In the words of Yogi Berra, " Deja'-vu all over again!" Wasn't Mara the same official that called a slam on Scooter last year in his semi-final match aganist Matt Byrd that kept him out of the finals?

    TIMEX !

John Cameron Swazye should have been matside last night so we could have heard his well known catch-phrase: " That clock must be a Timex, cause it took a 'licking, and kept on ticking!"
  18. Were there any other big upset's beside # 1 seed Tike Gooden at 112 lbs in the first round of the State Tournament?
  19. Thank you Brad for setting the record straight, once and for all! Good luck to you next year.
  20. Toughest6, One Answer..... No,he did not cry! And...He came back the next week and kicked his butt!
  21. Toughest6...You have no clue as to what happened to Matt Provenzano if you think he "got poked in the eye"! Yes, it was at the duals, but Cromwell Stewart from Father Ryan, grabbed Matt by the throat and almost crushed his trachae as he was getting up from a scramble that ended up out of bounds almost under the scorers table. Matt was leading the match when this happened, and he could not breathe and had to be taken to the hospital! Neither refree saw Stewart grab Matt because they were almost under the table. They gave Stewart the match because Provenzano could not continue. This was the worst case of poor sportsmanship that I have ever witnessed! Matt almost did not get to wrestle in the State the next week because of this injury. But, because he was such a tough warrior, he did wrestle and beat Stewart in the finals of the State to take his Second of Three State Titles!
  22. thegatling...Your arrogance is astounding! No, it's overwhelming! I can't believe the gall you have to actually think, even for a nanosecond(just so you won't have to look it up..that's a very short period of time),that anything you post on this board would be responsible for Jordan Leen's sucess. I, for one, recall your asinine statements about Jordan at the beginning of the year. Asinine, according to Webster, means 1. of, relating to, or resembling an ###### 2. marked by inexcusible failure to exercise intelligence or sound judgement. You seem to fit both of these categories. You said that you saw him get "tossed around last year by some kid from El Reno, Oklahoma and that he got drilled by some kid at SE Regionals." The kid that beat Jordan at the SE Regionals won by ONE point! He went on to become an All American at Fargo that year, which, by the way was really 2 summers ago when Jordan was right out of the 9th grade. The other kid(Brian Shelton is his name) hip tossed Jordan twice for 5 points each time and ended up winning that match 10-6. You forgot to point out that Jordan wrestled him all the next week and Shelton never scored on him! Again, this was when Jordan was right out of 9th grade. I was at Oklahoma State Camp this past summer and watched Leen work out aganist some tough, tough kids...guess what, the guys wrestling aganist Jordan were getting tossed! And Leen did work out some with Cordell, and, no Cordell did not beat Jordan! Leen's record at Fargo speaks for itself..he was one match away from placing the past two years. He has a better won/loss record at Fargo than even Rabbitt's Kyle James. I think his career record now stands at 135-9 and he has a lot of matches left this year and next year. I think Steve Henry, Coach at Soddy Daisy, summed it up best by saying that Jordan has one of the best work ethics that he has ever seen. The next time you start to post on this board, Gatling, take your foot out of your mouth before you start typing!
