  1. My definition of all around great athlete must be different than yours. I agree these four have done outstanding but can you take all four of them and play them in other key positions that may require more skill? For instance could Hargrove play QB or DB, could Christian play on the O line and be successful? Maybe but I seriously doubt it. However, I wouldn't trade them for anyone. Great bunch of kids and let me say Chase really done a good job this year considering he was on the fence a couple of times last year.
  2. Coach Davis does a outstanding job on defense but the O coordinator IMO is clueless sometimes but I respect Coach Davis for giving his coordinator the reins and trying to let him do his job but.............Play calling has been an issue in more than one game this year. Example; 3rd and about 1/2 yard we run a toss sweep instead of pounding it up the middle this happened twice in this particular game (Sequoyah)on consecutive drives if I am not mistaken. In that game our RB was getting about four or five yds per carry up the middle. Go figure! /wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />
  3. If I am not mistaken the fastest kid for Polk was the QB as far as straight speed and you don't want him running the ball much because of the injury factor, this is why he played FS on defense as well. Sure Polk has some kids that are great at their skilled position but as far as all around athletes that can play anywhere no they don't! Yes the young kids done a great job this year and hopefully they will improve and be something special the next couple of years.
  4. Strength of schedule IMO plays a minor role in the reason 3A teams never advance. Lets face it the reason we are talking so much about Central is that they had the athletes to compete with Region 4 this year and last. The only difference in Region 4 teams and Central was discipline no matter how hard it is for some to except it. Polk, Meigs and Notre Dame etc does not have the athletes to compete. I am not saying we don't have one or two but there is no comparison when they have four or five. Polk's fastest kid runs a 4.6 or 4.7. Most of the time we are playing teams that are bigger, faster and stronger. We have great kids no doubt but just not the number of athletes and I mean no disrespect to any of the kids because they work very hard and I think Coach Davis gets the most out of what he has. If you would have asked Coach Davis last spring would you take a 8-2 regular season record I gurantee you he would have said gladly, especially starting a sophomore QB and having lost a starting RB to a broken leg in the spring.
  5. I agree 100% but if the coach doesn't have support from the top his hands are tied. As a coach I would not come to a school where I couldn't run the program my way period. I am not saying this is the case with Coach Derrick because I believe he brings some of this on himself by the way he acts. A coach must lead by example as well. /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" /> /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" /> /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />
  6. If you had some talent are you kidding the only thing Central lacked was discipline. Imagine Coach Davis coaching a team with that much talent at Polk...... we would be playing til December! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> I am getting a warm fuzzy feeling coming over me maybe even a little teary eyed! I am on a diet sorry no dogs or BBQ for me but they are soooooo good. /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />
  7. I can agree with that for the most part and I see your point. The communtiy, administration and school board have to stand behind the coach and your right Coach Davis does have this support for the most part. We both have stomped on several toes in the past including each others. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  8. I have preached that very thing on this board and been bashed by several people here. A players actions are a direct reflection on you as a coach. Kids will do what's expected out of them most of the time. People say its the parents job but you as a coach can and should expect more. Do you think the kids at Polk all come from great homes with two loving parents? Sorry but its not true. Coach Davis expects his players to obey HIS rules and most of them do or they are gone no second or third chances. The few that follow his rules don't never get a chance to embarrass the school or the team in any way. I am not saying they all are perfect by no means. That's not the word I got! Shots at the coach are you kidding me the way he acts on the sidelines. Coach Derrick is very arrogant and IMO the players act like him. Speaking of kids having big ego's and arrogance where do they get it from? Some of the little league coaches have told me those kids didn't act like that when they played little league. Like I said they are a reflection of HIM! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> Sorry I got back on my soap box again I am done!
  9. Discipline Discipline Discipline! Until Coach Derrick instills it on his team they will never make it. IMO this is Central's worst enemy and it shows every game that they face adversity. As tigerpride said in another thread HIS way is not working. Coach Derrick needs to make the rules not let the team vote on anything. Running a team should be a dictatorship from the Coaches down to the players not a democracy where the players get to decide. The only vote the team should have would be captains. Maybe Coach Derrick just can't handle the pressure of making those type of decisions involving discipline. BTW WreckingCrew, I was another one that said this region was weak. Dang it I have agreed with a few of your posts in the last two days whats going on! I must be sick! Nah I just think your coming around to my way of thinking. /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />
  10. The Polk vs Bradley game is for sure. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  11. Polk opens the season next year with Bradley.
  12. I was just kidding. I have no desire to put that much time into that again especially when you have three small children at home. Playing professional softball was fun at one time but catching flights and being away from family was terrible my last year. A little golf and alot of hunting makes up for it but I do miss the money! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  13. I may lose all six of my egg whites I had for breakfast this morning but I have to say I agree with alot of your post! Agreeing with you could have been the hardest thing I have done lately. BTW How about the BP session? /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
  14. Thank you I will. I forget sometimes that were talking with some young men fresh out of high school. BTW there is a good article in the Times today about him and the other sophomores. Good luck to Central as well I will be listening to the game it should be a good one.
  15. WC, I am thinking of coming out of retirement and playing softball again would you care to pitch me some BP. I need to work on my base hitting especially up the middle! /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />
  16. smokey, do you really understand what poor mouthing means? If not don't show your ignorance!
  17. I did leave out team and yes we are on the same page! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  18. The fact that you agree with the troll speaks volumes about your intelligence as well! Coach Derrick must have a big desk! /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> So you don't believe what Coach Derrick is saying in the paper maybe he preparing everyone for another let down or just poor mouthing.
  19. I didn't keep any of them just remembered how bad they were and I wouldn't brag or admit about having made them. I think someone else is a bridesmaid as of last friday.... Ahh how soon we forget. I have a life and its not under Coach Derricks desk like yours! /ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" />
  20. Wrecking Crew Quotes Oct. 21,22,23-2008 /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> Please no one argue with this troll look at his comments its obvious he knows nothing about football or coaching. Good luck to both Central and Dekalb I hope both teams have a injury free night and safe trip to and from the game. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  21. I noticed you never posted on the Howard thread. I didn't whine and say we should have won or that we got cheated. Why are you whining about Howards fans and coach's now by mentioning it? I don't believe Howard's coach's taunted Central's players. Lets face it you know nothing about football and coaching. BTW that was a good one about the tooth brush I see your more immature than I thought! The GLOVES and buckets of water comment is your's not mine or anyone from Polk. So, I quess your stuck with being the ignorant one that posted it on this board. We will never let you live it down WATER BOY or is it WATER GLOVE BOY! /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" /> /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />
  22. Ah the Troll is back! After statements you have made in the past I would burn my computer and keep my mouth closed because every time you open it you prove what everyone on this board thinks. Central scored 16pts on a not very athletic Polk defense enough said! It seemed to work for Howard didn't it! Howard done a pretty good job considering they are "poorly coached and don't have much discipline". Do you remember those statements. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> BTW I see theres a chance of rain are you breaking out the GLOVES tomorrow night you know "the gloves with the little suction cups on them"! /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />
  23. I said he needed to be gone because of all the things he has done off the field but Central is a better with him playing period is that hard for YOU to understand! Central cannot replace his talent and ability with him on the field the defense had to respect him and have a game plan for stopping him, now all they have to do is pressure Rayl. smokey04 as for being a Howard fan I love the way Howard plays, their coaches are first class and the players are very disciplined. I might pull for Central if their coach and some of its players had some class and was a little more humble this goes for some of its fans as well! Confidence I can handle but not arrogance there is a big difference! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  24. I hope Region 3 can advance as well. Last sentence wasn't meant to any other person but WC!
