  1. Ah who worries about spelling Maybe 50-50 where you are,not here. Oh gosh I forgot about obstruction, definately another one that rarely is called.
  2. Okay I know all refs are different but man this year it seems every game the refs interpret the rules differently. So example. Several games ago we foul a player and my player gets up moves about four yards away from the ball and isnt in any hurry to move any farther. The ref runs in and gives him a yellow( was never warned or told to move back). The ref tells me its an automatic yellow if you dont clear out immediately. Okay fine so the next game, the other team fouled and a player sets up camp about four yards away from the ball and..nothing..the ref tells him to move..he moves a couple of yards, the ref tells him to move some more and after about 10 seconds we finally play the ball. I tell the ref what the previous ref had said about automatic yellow and he says the other ref was wrong..okay.. so we play again, we get fouled , the player sets up camp about 5 yards away from the ball and just sits there blocking our cross in as its deep in their territory. I mention this is a delay as the player is not moving and this ref informs me the player can stay there unless we ask the ref for 10 yards...so basically if you dont ask according to this ref the player never has to move. And the refs wonder why coaches get mad on the sideline when they dont even enforce basic rules the same. At this point I decided to ask every ref before the game what they consider offsides(oh god I dont want to even start on this one as wow are they inconsistent when some players are on and others off) and what they enforce on fouls and 10 yard buffer. Silly to have to ask a ref what they think the rule is as shouldnt the rules just be the rules and some wierd interpretation from game to game Anyone else having similar issues?

    11 AAA?

Rebel thank you for the bulletin board material /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> The word blowout should get the guys a little more fired up than they already are. It will be tough for us as Brentwood is a quality team. We look forward to the challenge.
  4. 12 AAA Finals McGavock 2-0 over Antioch
  5. Round 1 McGavock Bye Antioch def Whites Creek 4-0 Glencliff Def Cane Ridge 7-1? I think Hunters Lane def Maplewood dont know score Semis (Tuesday) McGavock def Hunters Lane 2-1 Antioch Def Glencliff 3-2 Finals Thursday at McGavock 6:00 Antioch versus McGavock
  6. I understand your points and can see where an outsider(to the county) might be cynical of the situation. But as a coach in metro these searches happen all the time at district tournaments, regular season games, during the school day. I guess the problem is that other systems might not be used to this. We are never given any warning when searches will take place. They are random. Not all of our students are model citizens nor are all the fans. In todays society it is a necessary evil to do these searches to keep everyone safe. As for this happening at a soccer game..I wish I had a crowd that would cause the police to come out and do searches. Right now it would be a real quick search at about any metro soccer game. I don't think you need to worry these searches will be abused as they have gone on for years and the only reason you never hear about them is most of the time nothing is ever found. This coach was just real unlucky and well not thinking too well as all the signs at the schools clearly announce that any vehicle on school grounds is subject to search....oh and for players thats yours as well and so are lockers, and bags so be real careful what you ever bring on any schools campus. Hope that helps.
  7. Sorry I dont know this but since this board goes all over the state, what school are you and where are you located. Obviously I dont want a scrimmage 4 hours away /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  8. Just as a point, regardless of the outcome here is how the games have gone the last three years 05 Glencliff(1) beats Ravenwood(2) 06 Antioch(1) Beats Ravenwood(2) 07 Glencliff(1) Loses 1-0 to Overton(2) So while in the past domination has occured that has not been the case lately. This year though the teams are down some and one of McGavocks best players(PK) seperated shoulder in districts and will be out...a huge loss for them as they dont have the depth the Williamson county schools. I think both Williamson county schools advance this year but next year Antioch returns everyone and will be tough( lost in the last 2 minutes this year in semis). Had some unfortunate injuries and grade issues with a couple of really solid players and should have them back next year.
  9. We played Hillsboro are they are better than last year. Play some good team ball. I dont think they will compete for the district but they are improved.

    Fields

I know there are schools where football rules and soccer teams are not allowed to play on the football field. When I started coaching we played on a horrible field and it took me three years and a new football coach to get permission to play on the football field...and even then they(football coaches) didnt like it. This might not be the case at this school but it is at some.
  11. I think I complained more /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> though not enough to get a card or even a warning...I was off my game that day I guess. As for the sweeper he was a victim of the red card barage this season..got a guy in the box from the side or behind depending on who you ask and got shown the red..also in that game two guys got the red for language. Yep we lost 3 starters for two games during the same game...so warning to all be careful what you say this year because if you get heard you might be watching awhile.
  12. Hey coaches and others. We had one game that was cancelled today so I am looking to add one if anyone has an opening. I really need Tuesday April 29 if anyone has it open or any day but Thursday that week. We have a solid team and will compete pretty well. Not at the top of the state at this point but definately competitive with most teams. Coach Staggs Antioch High micheal.staggs@mnps.org
  13. I personally would love to run the flat back, but communication is a huge problem on my team. My team is almost all international players. If they were all one nationality that would be fine but I have 7 countries represented. Lots of talent but hard to develop that chemistry between so many different nationalities. I did like the idea about introducing it to the JV. I have a JV squad of 20 so that would be a good idea to at least start teaching them that system as well as the 4-4-2 with a sweeper that we use now. Maybe a few years down the road we would be in a position to run it. P.S. For those that keep up with such things I was the coach at Glencliff the last 9 years but transfered to Antioch this year( those schools are in metro nashville for those that dont know)

    2008 A/AA

Okay to play devils advocate here.....as a coach let me tell you two really good players added to a already good team can have a huge impact...especially if one is a great forward/mid and the other a great sweeper. Granted a bad team with two great players still wont do much but take a team already competing for a district title and give them two studs like mentioned above and sectionals/state is not a stretch. My only issue with private is the unfairness of who they get. How many great players going to a private school transfer to a public versus the other way around? But your team is who they are and if you want to beat the best under the current system you just have to work harder yourself and so do your teammates. And on topic how can you go against CAK to repeat again, I'm sure getting great players to go there is not very hard right now..which is a testament to what the coach and school have built.
  15. I know I'm a little late on this but just a quick opinion. As far as numbers in schools go that is so misleading. We have 1400 kids in my school. Say half are boys..down to 700. We are inner city so we have a decent failure rate(gotta pass 5) so say we lose another 150( yeh we really lose that many). So now were at 550. Take away the baseball/tennis/track/ and we have about 470 left to choose from. Of those how many are athletes and have played soccer before on a team...not many. As a AAA school remember there are minimum student numbers but not maximum. Antioch has nearly 3000 students as does McGavock. So as far as students go we have half as many boys to field our team with as they do. You think its not fair if you have 400 students and a team has 800, try the 1400 to 3000 example....700 or so more boys to choose from. But all you can do is your best. At Glencliff with less players we still have won the district 2 of the last three years...beating McGavock once and Antioch once. So numbers dont mean everything...its more important the quality of the players you have not the quantity. Our rise is totally due to the fact that I get most of players on travel teams now, where 5/6 years ago very few played. As more of my guys are playing year round I have to spend less time on basics and can truly coach our system. Many times the private schools are the ones whose kids have played travel team since they were little, yes they may have fewer students but I bet the CPA/CAK/FRA.......have a higher percentage of kids that play club team than many AAA teams (excluding some of the powerhouses of course). Would you rather have 500 boys with 10 who played travel or 100 boys with 20 who played travel. So all this to say be really careful when you compare school size because in reality it means little....quality not quantity wins games...oh and good coaching never hurts /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> And on topic /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> congrats to CAK on the win and to Hume Fogg on a great season and game
