  1. it's "money for nothin'" by dire straits (with a guest appearance by sting of course)
  2. that is hilarious, deputydog. a good mark for you. i've been in a good mood lately, so i think i'll give out some good marks. but seriously, my "whodunnit" days are over. all that twinetickler stuff left me exhausted. all i know is that xball's posts were there last night when i first responded to rolltide (i must be getting soft cause i can't believe we agreed and i gave him a good mark). about this unaka playing betsy controversy...i was just defending the honor of the county schools when i made that argument...i don't particulary want to reopen that debate because we all know how very fruitful it has been in the past. congrats to UH, betsy, and the cloudland girls. as for the city vs. rural crap,- well it's just laughable. to those of you making comments like that on here: read your own posts and then read the words of krich, rolltide, and others. take note of grammar, cohesiveness, etc, etc. i think you're losing the argument. just my obervation. anyway, keep posting....i'll just keep laughing.... 3. very well put. i am happy to agree with you unequivocally for once....i couldn't have said it better myself. the only other thing i might mention to xballwhatever is that both cloudland AND unaka have challenged elizabethton, (oops! i mean e-town, you have to talk in terms they can understand, rolltide) in football and basketball respectively, but it has always fallen on deaf ears. so save yourself the embarassment of daring us to do something that "e-town" has always chosen to ignore. a good mark for rolltide! 4. i just wanted to pass along a couple of words directly to the unaka boys,- good job. i know that there have certainly been ups and downs, and that is life. however, your reaction to those sort of things (and i'm not just talking basketball here) is often more important than the situations themselves. i have observed several different occasions where adverse situations have arisen and our boys have consistently responded the same way,- WORK EVEN HARDER. they pull themselves up by their bootsraps and go back at it again. win, loose, or draw, that's exactly the way it should be done, and for that i am proud of them. throughout this entire season it has not mattered who the opponent was. they play their tails off regardless. they do not settle for losses and are not into moral victories, otherwise it would be impossible to avoid complacency and contentment. on the contrary, they have used the lumps they took just the way they should have,- as learning experiences and building blocks, all the while getting hungrier. they are a class outfit and have demonstrated (despite their youth and any "underdog" status be it real or implied) a great deal of character. a job well done! however, you aren't finished yet, are you? keep up the good, hard work.
  5. i know some of you may be getting tired of hearing this, but i am just having way too much fun here. did anyone notice that now there aren't even any posts on this ANCIENT thread by "backcourt", the artist formerly known as "twinetickler"? he must be in the fbi witness relocation program or something. or perhaps he's busy planning a march on the school board office to protest all the unaka atrocities. who knows. well anyway, the post in question was here just yesterday. this is so interesting (and funny)! this cat stirred up such a stink even HE can't stand the smell! man, i love this website.
  6. just for grins i did a little homework. i looked for the original thread on this topic (found it currently on pg. 91) and to my utter surprise, twinetickler's had no posts there either, although he was a very big part of the debate at that time. upon further reading i found where i had replied to one of his posts (which this web site automatically makes record of), so i looked at the posts that preceded it. i was shocked to find that the post that was originally twintickler's was indeed still there, but the username had been changed to "backcourt". this guy infuriates me. twine, just what exactly are you trying to pull, here?
  7. thanks for the info. glad to hear it. go rangers!
  8. just wondering about the outcome of this one. any info would be appreciated. thanks.
  9. just so someone doesn't read this and think that this is a bunch of unaka folks talking amongst themselves, there was a member of the opposition (hampton) on here who re-ignited this whole debate. he had probably three or four posts on here interspersed among ours, but now they have all been deleted. just wanted to make sure the truth stayed apparent here. i don't know why they were deleted. he probably got scared and e-mailed coacht requesting it. well, at any rate, i hope this is over. and to mike ensor, well said. like i've said before,- all is well here in our community and that's all that matters from a unaka standpoint. no one seems to particularly care what others think. they should take care of theirs and we'll take care of ours.
  10. i'm not sure i know what you mean, but if you're referring to the list of things i'm not an expert in,- i would reply that (other than the iraq comment) i mentioned thing that had been mentioned by the oppostion (enrollment, distances, basketball, football, etc.) the only person to mention baseball on THIS thread was me in an earlier post. but if it makes you feel better, i am not an authority on that either.
  11. no twine, you and yours brought up the argument that i mentioned. you just "crawfished" on it like you usually do. i am not an authority on enrollments, scheduling, travel times, coaching football, coaching basketball, where the chemical weapons are in iraq, etc., etc., etc. however, i am certain that from a football standpoint what's done is done. now, play us or don't. just stop trying to be all whiney and controversial on here. and i would add that with your ties to the creek you ought to be able to make three posts without misrepresenting what somebody said. but it's kind of like that old saying, "if you lie with dogs you get fleas." well this issue is dead and i'm starting to itch, so..............
  12. so "operation major hissy" is still going, huh? i for one can remember football season well. one of the blue arguments was that unaka wins in basketball and baseball, and that football was hampton's chance. well last night's game blow's that argument to bits, and i can think of no other arguments that are legit. bottom line, if hampton wants to drop what is probably their biggest non-conference game, both from a pride AND a gate standpoint, then that is their foolishness...
  13. coach ensor is quite intense at times. it just depends on what the specific situation dictates. this is his style and temperment, and it works for him. i see no need for any further discussion. despite last night's disappointing loss, as well any other losses that unaka has suffered throughout this season, things seem to be quite peaceful in the ranger community,- and isn't that the only thing that matters? don't get me wrong, you asked a civil question which you are certainly entitled to do. but you got a civil answer in return,- multiple times from multiple folks. now, what are you still wondering about? i mean no offense, but i shoot from the hip so here goes: am i actually supposed to believe that you have actually went from being lander fan numero uno to being the protector and guardian of the fragile self-esteem of teenagers here on the creek? or should i perhaps be a bit more weary of your clever tongue and suspect you would love nothing more than to be able to take credit for a wave of dissention on stoney creek. i think i'll choose the latter. seems transparent to me,- come on folks think about it. regardless of whether i am right or wrong, the issue is dead,- a question was asked AND answered. you even said that the answer seemed legitimate, but then went on to write yet another manifesto on the same topic. trying to plant a dash of lancelot in camelot, perhaps? well, it's not going to happen. win, loose, or draw i think that coach ensor (as well as the other coaches on the creek) has the support of the community. we take care of our own. period.
  14. this was a great game. hard fought on both sides of the ball. several unaka kids stepped up and played big to keep us in it in the second quarter. then the comeback in the third quarter,- wow. neither team folded,- it turned out to be slugfest. i was very impressed by how our kids didn't lose their composure early, as well as by how cloudland didn't lose theirs after the rangers came back and took the lead in the third. it was a tremendous game that went down to the wire and was decided by the kids. i don't think the officials were a factor, there were no fights, the kids on both teams showed a lot of class (even though the crowd was intense).....i can't think of any controversies from this game. rolltide, i can't help but think you're expecting an "intelligent" comment from me. however, you'll get no jibes from me this time. you were there. you watched the same game i did, and to be honest, with the way the teams fought it out tonight, i think it would be unfitting for any of that right now, no matter how good-natured it may be (tournament time will afford plenty of opportunity for that). in short, i don't want to detract in any way from this game, not even from the opposing side. hats off to both teams, they played so hard. and to the rangers, you showed a lot of HEART. great job. this game came down to the "intangibles". huge rebounds late, key stops and steals, the extra pass, etc...rangers,- we are proud...
  15. that is the first time you've quoted anyone that had any merit to it at all. now as for the secretary comment, no you don't need one because clearly have more free time than anyone in america. as for whether or not cloudland is there yet, well, that comment was just a historical reference. they have not accomplished anything yet, this year is no exception. so until they do, no need to reserve my spot on that bandwagon, thank you. but you just keep on quoting me. i'm flattered. now about the game. caca, i was just throwing you a bone, man. you swallowed it, didn't you? it was simply time for this thread to start, so i started it. as for the continued cheap shots about fouls at snavely i will say this. i have seen the rangers on the recieving end of several terrible games,- and i'm talking from an officiating standpoint. all i can say is it's part of the game. it shouldn't be but it is. so if your boys are so good and are peaking, rolltide, then i imagine that they will rise above it, won't they? i am not agreeing with you at all about the officiating, just posing a question because i am tired of hearing about this from you. it will be decided tonight.
  16. okay, i said i would cool it until monday. well, it's monday, and since no one else has started one, here's the unaka/cloudland thread we've all (figuratively speaking) been waiting for... so lets hear it people. what are your thoughts and opinions? here's mine: whoever wins tomorrow night's game will win the conference outright....just my opinion. let's hear everyone else's about anything pertaining to this game..
  17. rolltide, i think we have finally found something we can agree on: asterisk apparently is a modern day jerry reed. however, i think his intellect is probably more on the level of fred's (for the "smokey and the bandit" challenged that's the basset hound). asterisk, mi amigo, you are an embarrassment, but that's all i will say for fear of provoking some more brilliance from you (i have probably said too much already). rolltide, when i read cman's post it sounds to me like he is referring to Christian Academy of Knoxville shooting all those free throws....at any rate, i don't care. the "fouls"comment to tdog and i was a low blow, but i suppose you're entitled, i even chuckled a bit at it. i do have to say, though, that i know for a fact that the boys aren't taught to do that. i have played a good deal of basketball in my life and say this with confidence,- the dirty little trick doesn't even usually work....and furthermore, i haven't even noticed our boys doing it...well anyway, i will assume that thas was in good humor and leave it be. trying to reach an agreement on this issue is like trying to get france and germany to have a spine...fruitless... well, i will wrap this post up and probably cool it until the first of the week (barring provocation). like you mentioned i am feeling far too civilized and fear that i am going to ruin my reputation if a keep this crap up...monday should be a bit more intense. and tuesday, well........wow.
  18. you folks have men in skirts stopping by the watering hole for a "pint of ale", while we have an ever growing spanish speaking population here in coacht-land....what's the big deal with that? you're not narrow minded are you? and have you been to any pizza plus lately? it's not like they ban the spanish speaking. i mean, i've never seen a sign or anything. i'm starting to feel discriminated against... now about the rangers. i just can't buy into the argument that cloudland is more talented because they have a well-suited player for each postion. there are two reasons. first, because this isn't true. they don't. no one else in east tn does either, and at the risk of being redundant, the landers are no exception...second, of course the rangers don't have every single postion covered, but you know what, they haven't had that in years!!! unaka has never had a team built around a dominant post player. the teams with burrow, campbell, wilson, snavely, minton, blevins, scalf, dugger, cole, collins, et. al.....never a dominant post player. never five perfectly suited for their respective postions. some great players, though. and this is not an insult. there are a lot of NBA teams that don't have this, just wanted to point it out because it kinda dismantles your argument (one that i've heard before,- deja vu perhaps?). in fact, that's why the rangers play the style that they play. and it has yielded success in the past, and i feel that it will in the future. a great class graduated last year, and this team is young. but we've all seen it isn't the end of the world,- our boys are coming around. teams change and come and go....that's why you gotta have a program. not saying anyone else doesn't.....just saying i believe that's where the emphasis is on the creek. it takes some pretty darn good teams to build a successful program. then the craziest thing can happen,- the program can start to build the team....a program can feed on itself....that's why the boys on the creek will not relent... now, a pg and four small forwards? fine by me. but you said that,- i didn't. that really isn't true. the jones kid has improved tremendously and continues to do so. people in the watauga valley will know this kid if they don't already. i've liked what i have seen of him. i don't mind talking about this,- heck i love it. but keep tryin' cause i still ain't buyin'....(still working on my jesse jackson impersonation). well, looks like coffee breaks over. gotta get back to working for the man..... 19. rolltide, mi amigo, i just have to point out to you the explanation for my mere one hundred and sixty-something posts: i got a job. sorry man. no secretary postion wanted or needed here. nor could i maintain your schedule of sleeping all day and coachT-ing all night, as it would interfere with aforementioned job....but hats off to the 400+ posts,- and don't worry about the good marks...you keep pluggin away at it and they will come.... as for your sincere love for our facilities i will take this opportunity to remind you that the feelings are absolutely mutual....and yes, buddy, this is the most wonderful time of the year.... tune in for this week's episode of "everybody hates unaka", starring you...the storyline for this weeks episode is simple,- unaka is still hated even when their record is a bit weaker than is has been in recent years. the reason? simple. YA'LL AREN'T THERE YET. we heard all this same song and dance from you last season. now my memory's not too good these days, so remind me,- how did that go? oh i think i remember now. your boys couldn't cash that check could they. but here you go writing them again....oh well. you may be right, but it is a bit early. i just can't resist though. "cloudland has more weapons than unaka?" was there a mid-season trade or something? so you woke up feeling boisterous, fine. try to maintain a touch of reason, though. now i am going to go and wait for you to respond. however, i will probably have to wait till after you eat breakfast though (around 11:30 pm). man your schedule is killing me. i'm afraid i'm gonna get fired. but, that's what dedication is all about..... 20. we should all say our prayers for these astronauts, their families, and our nation.
  21. round about this time every year when you and yoda get back from cruising the universe you start in hot and heavy and prove to all of us that space travel does truly warp your sense of reality. either that or you've been hibernating like i thought and still haven't jabbered yourself fully awake yet. sorry man, i just don't take "class" lectures very well coming from anyone from roan mountain. i'm not saying that that nobody up there has any, i am just saying that, despite the colder climate, the lander faithful can get all worked up and show their posterior side just as well as anyone else. so you keep your pants on. now for you to talk about home-cookin at Snavely is just preposterous. after the free-throw discrepency on the mountain barely one week ago. come on. stop the denial. join HA today (hypocrite's anonymous) and let's get you on the road to recovery. and don't give us that lame aaron dugger shot 25 for 29 from the line once la la la la crap...there is a VERY SIMPLE explanation for that: the RANGERS HAD THE LEAD! cloudland had to foul so the rangers kept getting the ball to their best player. makes sense to me. you? i was at that game and i'll bet that he shot at least 12 of those in last 2 minutes. i've got other defenses for this argument, but i will hang on to them for now until i see if you actually try to use it again, ridiculous as it is. now back to last week, there is no way that unaka should be able to press aggressively for the entire game and have that many fouls called almost exclusively in their half-court defense. i could have half-way understood the discrepancy had unaka been whistled a little more in their full-court press...but the way that the calls came was just a bit odd....oh well, that's all agua under the bridge now....just wanted to point out a tad expound on some of the finer points of your last post....may the force be with you or whatever.
  22. pretty big game tonight at our place. just wondering if anybody is gonna talk about it, or has there been some kind of gag order put on? come on people, there must be something we can all agree to argue over... i don't make predictions so i need someone else to start this thing....throw me a bone here people.
  23. "would a rose by another name still not smell as sweet?" a win is a win, regardless of whatever silly comments bballfan40 or anyone else wants to make. now i have stated several times how i enjoy keeping things stirred up just for fun. however, bballfan40, this is the kind of stirring that need not take place within a player/fan community. going to johnson city and beating a very talented UH team was GREAT,- the kind of win that can be built upon. rome wasn't built in a day, but when it fell, it was it's own self-destructive tendencies that were it's demise.....i don't always agree with other "rangers" like myself, but i reserve the serious fighting, arguing, etc. for folks from elsewhere.....i think we should all do the same.
  24. this is one of those, "don't judge the man until you've walked a mile in his shoes" situations. personally, i value a college education tremendously, and i've seen on here that many others do, too. so that side of me wants to say, "lebron, go to school first." however, having been just another ball player when i was in school, i cannot even BEGIN to fathom the attention that this young man is getting, the microscope he now lives under, the money he stands to make, the thrill of playing ball for a living, the impact of instant fame, as well as the seemingly endless, other opportunities that have begun to come his way...... for me to say he's making a mistake would be foolish and irresponsible on my part. i don't have a clue. i wish i did. part of me is happy where i'm at. while part of me would love to know what it's like to be him right now.....but i don't.....i wish the young man the best.
  25. i see your point. when you extend your definition of coaching, it is true that we have all had this experience. i didn't even realize that is was you that had said it.....nothing i have said was aimed at you personally....my apologies if you felt that way....my opinion is still the same though. you may be right about any high school would take a chance on summitt, but you have to remember the factor of name recognition, fame, etc...... just my opinion, though.
