  1. caca, to answer your initial question, i would have to go with dean smith. i think he would be the man that would come closest in today's game, in fact, i think he could still be very successful at today's game.....he was an excellent coach and even better recruiter.... rupp is a legend, but game has changed,- although i think great coaching is great coaching......same thing for john wooden,- but a record you can't argue with....... summitt i would only pick if it was women's team....i made my thoughts on that very clear in my last post. excellent question. very intruguing. and i do see the point you were trying to make. although i do wish you would finish your sentences. nevertheless, point well taken. everyone else, chime in and answer this very legitimate question. who and why?
  2. chhs, i did figuratively say "just kidding". but it did not mean that i was seeking the type of mercy that you give the class clown because he is just a joker and is never serious. i have a very serious side, and you and others did put me in my place when you "scorched" me. what i did say is that stirring the pot is what i like to do. and i did! and admit it, you and others love to put posters like me in my place when we do stir things up so just cool down. furthermore, we have not had enough exchanges on here for you to make blanket statements like, "you always claim you were just kidding when you get scorched...."(paraphrased) in your last post you said that i had just proven your assumption about me correct, then listed as proof something that i had just admitted in my post,- that i really didn't know much about the topic!! nice work sherlock. now, in a less antagonistic way, let me explain what led me to make my first post in this thread in the first place. okay, i see the title of the thread and am intrigued, so i begin reading. i am thinking about my opinion on the women issue as i read. then i read a post that says something like, "pat summitt could coach men. she could coach anybody...." (paraphrased again). this is when i decide to respond, albeit in my normal, provocative, sarcastic way. (that's just the personality that i have on coacht, and it has proven to introduce many great debates. i even had one with your buddy, stokomo, this past summer that started this same way. the funny thing is that in the end we agreed.) i respond because although p.h. summitt's record is indisputable, i don't think she could coach men's basketball at all. i base this on myself. when i played i would not have wanted to have played for a woman. i would have been uncomfortable with it,- not just an uneasy uncomfortable, but an uncomfortable that leads to hesitance, less gelling, and breakdowns in communication and hierarchy. and i should add that i was very coachable as a player, and i played on teams with great kids (no sprewell's or iverson's). however, i think some of them would have found it more difficult than me. summitt is a great authoritarian that commands respect. men would try her on that ("ain't no woman gonna tell me what to do!"). she would in turn tighten up to show them who's in charge. they would in turn rebel more. and so begins the downward spiral. i am not saying this is right, but it's difinitely how it would be in many cases,- not all, but more than enough to sink the boat..... now i hope that is clear enough to chhs, mchs, et. al....you didn't like my style of posting......fine....but it led to all of this and i for one love it.........mchs, maybe they will kick me off, but don't worry too much about my maturity,- i can handle myself okay. oh yeah, chhs, you did scorch me. you too, mchs. now do you two feel better? i feel exactly same, but if you guys feel better then it was worth it.
  3. que sera sera. maybe they will delete me. but you don't know me at all and probably haven't read any of my other posts on other threads (not that you should or shouldn't). we disagree on this subject but who really cares? well i guess you do. i've got other "foolish" things to tend to. just remember, judge me if you will, but if you can judge me based on one fleeting post, i can have an opinion on pat summitt whom i've had to hear about for the past 20+ years....that's just the way it is. at least since 1998 i haven't seen anymore of those "university of tennessee: where men play football and women win national championships" t-shirts...... lighten up people.
  4. well now that everyone has their jockstrap in a wad, my work here is finished. my apologies for not demonstrating the proper reverence for pat summitt. in truth, i could care less. i love to stir the pot and i was very successful. now a confession,- i know nothing about her career or record, as i have never even been able to watch the lady vols play a complete game in my life. i only know that she has trouble with uconn because i watch sportscenter. i could care less. but i do think that the comparisons i have seen since the 800th win between her and the likes of adolf rupp are truly laughable.... chhs,- excellent use of a quote that folks on this site are driving right into the realm of cliche.....-some people are just way too PC and take themselves way too seriously. now i'll take part of the blame for this, but we need to start pat summitt thread on the women's site if we want to continue with this (then i won't have to stomach it any longer). this thread is about whether or not women can coach men's teams. my answer in a word: no. for example,- latrell sprewell choking p.j. carlisimo's eyes out. i guess being the gentlemen he is he would never touch a woman, huh? true, he's a jerk but i think you can see that it just wouldn't work.....
  5. okay, jdub, outside of my "heck of a man" jibe, what exactly did i say that you disagree with? i just stated facts. if you'll look at the record, i don't think you can argue. she has around 120 losses in her career. okay, disregard her first five year's losses. now, how many of the remainder of them have come in the last five years? your honor, the prosecution rests.
  6. what exactly is her record against UConn over the past, oh i don't know, five or six years? not very impressive. she had less competition in earlier years. but she is a heck of a man, i'll give her that.
  7. caca, i think you are getting soft. could it be that you, too, are catching ranger fever? i sure hope so. the boys need our support. so if they are winning you over, then welcome aboard, ya big softie. everyone deserves a second chance. so i'll forgive you for bashing me when i softened up on elizabethton on another thread..... there may be hope for you yet.
  8. thanks for the info, diggs. i wish the boys could have won but temple is a class program that also happens to be loaded this year. hate that i missed this one. hang in there boys. there's still plenty of ball to played.
  9. point well taken. i will give it a rest for a while. i would just really love to see the game take place, but i do see your point. i meant no harm. we have not talked prior to this thread, but the brash, sarcastic, very blunt method of posting that i use is partly for fun and largely to provoke thought and debate (i enjoy debate very much). so don't take things too personally and i'll try not to take them too far. i can have serious discussions, too. but like i said i think we've exhausted this one so we'll just agree to disagree and i'll give it a break.....congrats on win over central...
  10. someone help me here ASAP. i was just wondering the final score. any additional details would be greatly appreciated, too. thanks.
  11. i was just wondering why the thread is blocked. i read it and there's a lot of arguing but nothing obscene or profane that i saw. can anyone help?
  12. the fact of the matter is that this talk has been going on for quite some time (just about as long as its been since you guys won a district tournament),- it didn't just start this year because we are down or bored or whatever you're claiming (which is really a stupid argument,- "now that we're not as good we want a piece of you!" think of how ridiculous that as and you'll stop saying it). for years uhs has wanted to play ehs, and in many of those years you were AAA and playing a AA and even A hampton.... oops, there goes that argument.....oh, and i should add that unaka was making a common practice out of beating hampton during those years....oops, there goes the rest of that argument...do you give cloudland this same line of crap when they ask for a football game,- come on...... look, i don't give a rat's rear about how uneven the matchup would be THIS year. year in and year out (at least since the last time you WON a DISTRICT) this would be a great game...... intense rivalries can be a great equalizer. an excellent example of this is your beating science hill in 95.... they did have a better team and went farther down the road to prove (and i do know what i'm talking about. i remember that team with caleb gilmer, patrick norman, etc.). the rest of the stuff you listed as remarkable is solid i suppose, but does not diminish what rivalry can do for a basketball game. if that is not true then ehs would have never beaten science hill.....i pride myself on facts, you think its slander. well i guess the truth can be slanderous, can't it? and by the way, you may want to edit your last post....ehs did not win district in 2002(unless you were referring to the regular season, in which case you should clarify), hampton did....quite the warm welcome, huh? [Edited by hablogarbaje on 1-9-03 10:27A]
  13. other than losing the district tournament last year to hampton, what notable things have been accomplished there recently? sure, you wait till this year when ehs is more talented than uhs and say "we'd kill ya, we'd embarrass ya, we'd....we'd..." sounds familiar. anybody out there ever seen the cowardly lion? "i'll fight ya with my eyes closed...i'll fight ya with one arm behind my back.." whatever morons. this year is the FIRST year in several that ehs would have been clearly favored, and several would have had uhs favored.....you all will probably win district this year, and feel free to hang your hats on that if you want. but i gotta tell you, that ain't no state championship and there's no reason to start getting all haughty, we've won several of those (districts) recently but they still didn't give us the keys to murfreesboro when we got there last year..... etown12, congratulations on being such a great 3 point shooter.....i'm glad that you and tony did make it on to bigger and better things.....elizabethon is such a roundball powerhouse and mecca....come on,- you make it sound like he coaches and you played at dematha..... as for the redneck comment, the folks you're dealing with here might not be nearly as red as you think....they just don't like you and they happen to be from outside of the town limits. so that to you makes us rednecks and you relay that in your actions and dialogue. well your entitled to that, it's the whole first amendment thing (this redneck understands). but you need to understand this: that attitude is why we can't stand "e-town". the truth is still out there........i think i have it.....isn't anyone curious???? [Edited by hablogarbaje on 1-9-03 10:31A]
  14. when i said just ask coach poe i was referring to the truth about why certain games aren't played, not about ehs being yellow. as for misquoting you,- i did read that on this thread, sorry about crediting you with it....so you see, i did not tell two different stories....the first comment was the same as the second, they are connected. i won't go into it now, but i do want to clear up this issue,- i did not tell two different stories,- i don't care enough to lie......
  15. you and i are very different in many ways. the primary way that comes to mind right now is that you get offended by my name calling, whereas i could care less if you call the rangers or me names (i have no perverbial chips on the old shoulder). however, what i find nauseating about you is your propensity to tell boldface lies right here in front of the entire state. so if nobody else will do it, i'm calling you out on it. i know for a FACT that ehs did not offer to play unaka and i know for a FACT why you got turned down by science hill. now you get your facts straight or the truth will be told to the whole state (that's my jesse jackson impersonation,- you like it?). opinions are fine, like when you say if they did play that ehs would destroy them (which may or may not be true, but definately hasn't been the case in the past five or six years has it,- so that lame excuse holds no water). but you'll not get on here just to tell brazen lies without being called on it. i am not a unaka coach, but i think i can say this: anytime, anyplace. if that ever turns out to be false then let it come back on me. but i'm not worried,- doesn't look like you boys will ever call.....
  16. then enlighten me and everyone else with the "facts". you pointed out that i am wrong, but did not give your own spin on things.....therefore, until you actually state something, i have nothing else to say on the issue, as i pretty well spoke my mind in the post you are referring to...i'll be waiting for the gospel according to you.
  17. if you find all this tiresome and repetitive then try showing up next time and you won't have to deal with it will you?
  18. etown 12 it is time to put a stop to this. referring to what i read on rivalries... i know the unaka coaches personally and they WILL PLAY. it's time to get this schelduling matter underway now and not wait until the last minute when you can say "well we would but our schedule is full." that is simply moronic and i want everyone to know the truth: the reason this game never takes place is because of the cyclones,- the rangers are ready and willing and i dare say that coach ensor awaits a phone call from coach hardin as we speak.... the reason this is addressed to you is that you are a tony hardin internet liason to the real world. maybe at the next family get together (perhaps valentine's day) this can be straightened out. unaka plays everyone in your conference but you. now who's fault is that? hmmmm. let me see. i just don't know. i'm actually stumped on this one. come on everyone knows the truth on this. when it comes to this issue the cyclones are more like one of those little whirlwinds you see pick up litter off of the sidewalks in the springtime. maybe you should consider changing your colors from orange and black to a nice pale yellow or something. or at least get the mascot a yellow streak to wear down it's back (or change it all together to a nice manly canary). if you don't think i know what i'm talking about ask one mr. mike poe..... well that's about all i have to say about that.... when you change your underclothes and towel off, respond if you can come up with anything... put up or SHUT UP folks........ well i feel better. you?
  19. well i see that my efforts to lay low and do some serious observation/introspection are in vain, so here goes... university high clearly has the most talent in the conference, as they did last year and perhaps even the year before.... however, unfortunately for them, we are not hosting a talent show tonight. we are having a basketball game. it's a team sport involving stamina, coaching, execution, and discipline,- all of which university high has been lacking in in recent years. so i have to agree with deputydog on this one: UH is still unproven to me... things may have changed, but as of yet i have not seen it from them.... if UH is going to win tonight, they will have to blow unaka out initially and have a lead of at least 10 points going into (if not halfway through) the fourth quarter because that is when their true colors (self-destruction) often shine through.... that has been the only constant that they have demonstrated in recent years, whereas unaka's have been playing hard and with pride, protecting their home court and winning in big conference games... so until UH clearly turns the corner (on the up and up) as well as unaka (on a downward slide), that is what i'm going with... that is way closer to a prediction than i am comfortable with, but i was beckoned into it.... see you all tonight.
  20. que es problema, mi amigos? con espanol? mas ingles, por favor. este es stupido. for caca: what is the problem, my friends? with spanish? more english, please. this is stupid. (that's what i said above. i knew you would never figure it out with your shakespearean vocabulary.........) we don't need trouble around here in any language. but everyone has a right to their opinion, so let freedom ring.
  21. rolltide, the o.j./lorena comment was based strictly on my personal feelings about the aforementioned schools,- not reality. and furthermore, i did not call cloudland or hampton names. i said it was "like" o.j., etc, etc. so you see it was a metaphor, no well actually it was a similie. didn't you learn anything in elementary school grammar? and i don't see anyone up on the mountain proclaiming love for UH either.........how could anyone get along with those guys........? and please don't be quiet, i really have found this site to be a little boring as of late........ but the real, true, important question still remains, rolltide: what does yoda think about all of this? [Edited by hablogarbaje on 12-19-02 9:20A]
  22. to all the athletic supporters: tough schedules often lead to tough records for small teams. these schedules are also the only avenue that small teams have for great recognition through big wins...... unaka is so young,- give them a chance to gel and develop. they are already much improved from what we saw in the mountain city tournament. i think it is obvious who this post is directed at, but i am not going to glorify him by mentioning his ridiculous broken spanish...... and now a question: what are the records of other single A schools in the region? i know about cosby, but what about north greene, UH, cloudland, washburn, powell valley, etc? and who have they played? if you don't play AA and AAA competition that competes for championships, don't respond... i saw the score from the hampton cloudland game last night.....hampton by six. wow. who the heck do i pull for in that one? personally, i was hoping for a draw, i mean, that's like watching o.j. simpson battle it out with lorena bobbit.....who do you pull for? they are both deplorable,- not to mention the knives.......
  23. i saw the thread for cosby basketball and i thought i would try to start a conversation on unaka basketball. i thought the boys played hard last night, and i think that if they will hang tough and keep playing hard that they will be able to turn the corner.......the good folks on the creek just need to be patient and let this youthful squad continue to develop.......and hats off to cosby,- they have a very good, very quick team that can shoot the lights out if they get hot......so folks don't think that these boys have been playing a bunch of pushovers. only time will tell, but i really believe that they will be fine......keep playing hard boys.
  24. hardin, you got freedom of speech just like everyone else so i'm not gonna tell you what to do. but you should consider toning it down a bit. i mean,- come on, you're wearing us out here. this thread has got six freakin pages and you alone have probably typed 4.5 of them...... slow down man, if you wear a blister on your shooting hand then, well, that could be bad....... TTU could be hurting....or are they already...... oh wait, what am i thinking,- WHO CARES!?!? prediction: (i don't normally do this) firemanfrank said this betsy team could be special,- define special. if winning a district tournament is special then they probably are. if GOING TO substate is special, then they might be. if you have to WIN substate to be special, i'll bet you this team isn't cause it ain't gonna happen.... hardin, it's not all that far from cookeville to murfreesboro, but if you go to watch the show, you won't be seeing the 'clones there........sorry man.
