  1. Allison Jones (Morristown West) signed this week to play at Milligan College.
  2. Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda. Its like Coach Lombardi said, "If "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts, we would all have a great big Christmas." Listen, I'm from the "other side" of Morristown, and East is definitely our biggest rivalry in every sport, but you have to give credit where credit is due. You can't call a team with 27 wins "overrated." They have lost thier leading scorer, and I dont think they have lost a game since she got hurt. Starting 3 seniors right now hardly classifies them as an "old" team. I already knew that Coach Cloninger was a good coach (she coached my daughter in middle school), but she has certainly done outstanding with this group. They probably will not beat Science Hill, but I bet it will be a good game, and with the chance to play in sub-state against Farragut or Maryville, I would take East over either one. Congrats to East, and that is hard for me to say.
  3. I hate to be disagreeable, but in my opinion, (1) Science Hill will beat Sevier by as many as they want to. Sevier is without their 2 best players. (2) First game of the year for Morristown West was TN HIgh, and they lost by 1 point. West is still without their starting point guard, but I think this game is a toss up. (3) East should beat Daniel Boone, but I dont think it will be by 18. Leading scorer for East is out and the last few games they have played have been pretty close. (4) I dont know much about Sullivan South, but I have seen Seymour a lot. I believe Seymour wins by 10- 15. Doesnt really matter though, their next game will be against Science Hill. Good luck to all the teams. Science Hill should take the region and all the games will be good. My biggest wish is for Mo' West and Mo' East to meet in the second round.
  4. West's point guard, Whitney Donaldson, went down while playing Oak Ridge with a torn ACL. She will obviously be out the rest of the season. Thats a big blow to West, but they have responded very well having beat Cherokee and South Greene since then. They still have Farragut left on Thursday, and if they can win that game they will finish the regular season with 20 wins. All I know about Berquist is she is out the rest of the year to.
  5. Morristown West at Morristown East: Tuesday, 01-03-2012 Any thoughts?
  6. #1 Jeff County vs #8 South Doyle #2 Cherokee vs #7 Cocke County Morristown West and Seymour are tied for 3rd - coin toss for 3rd and 4th 3rd place will play #6 Sevier County 4th place will play #5 Morristown East Jeff County and Cherokee should win their games but the other two games are toss ups. East seems to be playing very good right now, Seymour can beat any body when they are playing good, and if Sevier is hitting the 3 point shot, they are tough as well. West is the biggest question mark. Galyon has been really confused the second half of the season with what line up he should be playing and it has definitely hurt them. If they can get the right combination playing the majority of the game, they could easily win the district tournament, but if he keeps doing the strange things that he has been, they will not make it through the first round.
  7. You obviously haven't seen Morristown West or Memphis Central play. I've watched them all play and I would pick this game as the one with the two best teams. You need to wait till the game is over tomorrow night before you make a statement like that!
  8. Unless I'm over looking it, there is not a lot of conversation about the AAA state tournament. I would like to read some information on each of the teams that will be there from their own fans. Anyway, with limited information on some of the teams, I'll be the first to make quarterfinal predictions: Oak Ridge over Memphis Overton: I know Oak Ridge was the only team that was not ranked in the top 10 in the final AP poll, but if Jill Prudden has a team playing, I would never count them out. I really do not know anything about Overton. Riverdale over Mt. Juliet: Mt. Juliet has one of the best post in the state in Williams, but Riverdale seems to be playing very good right now. I've seen Barbee play a lot and she is the real deal, and Haislip seems to be shooting very good right now. Morristown West over Walker Valley: West has been #1 from the first poll to the last and their only loss was to Dallas Skyline, and that was without Goins. I do not know very much at all about Walker Valley, and I'm sure they are a very good team, but MY Lady Trojans are playing very good right now and I'm looking for them to be playing on Saturday, and my guess would be against Riverdale. Memphis Central over Clarksville:Graves is awesome but Central is loaded. I think this will be a close game though. Good luck to everyone!
  9. Coach C has done a good job this year with East, and is certainly better than what they have had in the past. But it is not like they have a bunch of players that are no good. They have solid post play, good outside shooters, and some very good young players. The fact still remains that they may finish this season with a losing record. As good as she is, that is not deserving of Coach of the year. A coach that ends up with a record of 13-14 or even 14-12 should never get that award over a coach, like Galyon, whose team has been, and still is, ranked #1 in the state , will probably have well over 30 wins, and has a legitimate shot of winning the state championship. Tracy will continue to build a good program at East and may, one day, deserve this honor, but this year is not it.
  10. I agree - great win for East tonight, but, how can you justify giving Coach of the year to someone whose team is barely over .500 right now?
  11. Thank you for mentioning this for the last time. Now, if you will just mention everything else you have to say for the last time it will make all of us happy. By the way, in the first AP Poll of the year, that just came out, MO West is ranked #1. I would imagine that going to Arizona and doing well may have had something to do with that, because you obviously don't think that they have played any competition around here.
  12. West has played 9 - 11 players in all of their games this year. When the starters come out, they will eventually come back in, but that is the way it is supposed to be. This is not AYSO or the Upwards program where everyone gets to play. Personal statistics and points matter in every game that is played. To many of these girls, this level of basketball is just as important as the next.
  13. Great job Seymour, you also managed to score the least amount of points scored against West this year (26). West won the game by 33 points against that great game plan bballrebounder. Cherokee only lost to West by 32 so I guess they should get a round of applause also. I have watched Morristown West play every game this year, even the games during summer camp and the pre-season scrimmages, and besides only once or twice, they have won every game by at least 25 points, and most of them were by 40. Seymour, obviously, did not shoot very well, but they did what they needed to do to keep West from running away from them. If Seymour was shooting as well as they have before, it would have been much closer. I think somtimes people get so caught up in the explosive offense of West that they sometimes look over the intense pressure they put on teams with their defense. I thought Seymour had a good game plan, they just didn't shoot very well and the defense of West had a lot to do with that. By the way Guru, West is not playing in the Greeneville Classic, they are going to Phoenix for the Nike Tournament of Champions.
  14. I give Seymour and their coach a lot of credit. They are the first team this year that West has played that kept the tempo of the game as slow as they possibly could, and dropped back into a zone to help control the boards, and they did a good job of rebounding. Every other team this year has thought they could run with West and that is why they have scored between 75 and 85 points a game. Seymour held them to 59.
  15. Morristown West won the LandAir tournament in Greeneville. They beat Unicoi County. I heard Cocke County took 3rd place in the Central tournament winning against Carter. Anyone have any reports on the East/Cherokee game?
