  1. It doesn't matter when people get hurt in a sport. People don't play to get hurt or hurt other people. People play a sport for competition and to win by scoring points. This requires some sort of athletic or generally a strenuous activity to achieve to score points and band doesn't do that. Band requires playing notes and being in sync with one another while playing an instrument. It is a performing art, not a sport. It doesn't require athletic ability, therefore it's not a sport, because athletes play sports. Band requires musical talent and practice. It's not taking anything away from band by saying not a sport. It's an important part of athletic and high school events.

  2. It isn't a matter of how many club players are on your High School team, just a matter of safety; considering the number of girls that had serious knee surgeries last year from games like that. You can get hurt through normal play of a match, no sense in taking risks when a team goes after players because they are on a different skill level. As far as the Loudon girls, it is not their fault if they aren't taught the right way, and it isn't all the girls on the team anyhow, since I know several of the girls and know they are not that type of players. It is like the same old thing, a few can make things look bad for many, a bad rep of the few can effect a whole team or group.

Again for the record there are some very good character girls on that team so I am not trying to trash them.

I like the point you made about a few players on the team giving the whole team a bad rep. I agree with this, but it is the coach's responsibility to correct this problem. No matter how good a player is, unethical play shouldn't be tolerated.

  3. I think the High School JV and Varsity games this season have had alot of bad calls and no calls this year. It would be nice since EastTNRef knows so much about the high schools, and is obviously a Ref, that he could give some input to the people who pick these Refs. Our varsity game against South Doyle last week was absolutely the worst and yet most obvious Home cooking job in officiating soccer I have ever seen. That includes all games I played in high school, college, and coached!

I don't know about the South Doyle game, but it has seemed to be a pretty big problem with poorly refereed games this year. Something should be done before an athlete ends up seriously hurt.

  4. Yeah I'm pretty sure BBaller is correct. Another little tid bit is the players don't have to sit out a complete season they only have to sit out a year from when their original team played their last game.

  5. When there were only 3 classifications I have seen 3A teams with 30 players do well. Numbers are important for practice and depth, but most teams now even if they have 60 players will play 20 to 25 players on Fridays. I have seen schools with 2000 students in their school play around 20 players on Fridays. Most schools regardless of size have a small core of quality players and players that go both ways.

I would let them play the season, but I would make them wait two weeks before they can step foot in a game. Make them aware that their tardiness will not be tolerated.I would let them play the season, but I would make them wait two weeks before they can step foot in a game. 6. While Alicia was one of 3 South seniors going on to play college VB, she was not one of the two that played with the South club last winter. So, what she thought about her club is not really relevant.

Is it standard for coaches from one club to say negative things about another club on public message boards? Don't know TNKen or which of the TWO local clubs (NETVC or Cobras) he is obviously associated with ("I had a couple of their younger players on my club team, and several of their players on our club's power teams."), but would think both of these fine clubs would discourage such talk. Certainly if some girls left one club to play for another, one could interpret such negative comments by the club that lost them as "sour grapes."

I still think that the coaches should bite their tongue on criticizing other teams in negative ways. It doesn't really help matters and it just reflects poorly on them and their team.
