  1. Should the state tournament change to double elimination or remain the way it is?
  2. Does anyone know the results from the AAU Junior Olympics?

I just found out there's like a legion of awesome freshmen lots of all-Americans. There are a bunch of national tournaments all over the place for middle schoolers (there's a huge dual tournament in Iowa) and apparently Tennessee pwnd a lot of strong state teams. A lot of these guys are going to Baylor so they might be stronger than I thought. I'm telling you state is gonna be a war in both divisions. This is gonna be an unpredictable year I think. Since we just graduated an elite team of seniors that included at least nine NCAA all-Americans our state will look considerably weaker at first glance. But I think we'll see a lot of freshmen medalists and maybe even some middle schoolers. Compared to last season we might not have as many studs like Brandon Wright or Kelly Felix but as a whole the state tournament this upcoming season might be even stronger. Expect a lot of close matches. I can almost guarantee the rankings at the end of the season will be completely different from the rankings at the season's start. In the next few years Tennessee is going to be a force to be reckoned with if we can get our wrestlers involved in more off season and national competition. Our guys are definitely improving we just need to organize our programs better. I'm really looking forward to seeing the competition. "the wobodog"
  4. Nevermind about Darius Williams that was something I misread.

    Franklin's returning medalists are: Dustin Ortiz 4th @ 125 Ryan Konz 3rd @ 135 Wiley Davis 5th @ 140 Ben Heacock 3rd @ 152 Carter McPhee 6th @ 215
  6. I thought Bundy was wrestling at West Point in New York or is that the same place? Isn't Darius Williams wrestling at UTC?
  7. I was reading a wrestling magazine and I got a little confused. It was like a May edition or something (definitely 2007). It was talking about the Fargo Classic like it had already happened (had results and everything). It mentioned freestyle, greco, and folkstyle divisions. So the Fargo tournament that just took place a few days ago must be a completely different tournament from the Fargo Classic, which was held in the spring. Is this true? Are there two Fargo tournaments? Do they have anything to do with each other?

Don't forget about Ravenwood, they get better each year. But Ooltewah probably will still be #1. Anyway here's my predictions: Division 1 1. Ooltewah 2. Bradley 3. Franklin 4. Soddy 5. Ravenwood Division 2 1. Father Ryan 2. Brentwood Academy 3. Baylor 4. McCallie 5. MBA
  10. Did Philip Simpson place?
  11. I'm back! David Mang leaves Fargo with a sixth place medal around his neck- way to go! I haven't heard of any Tennessee wrestlers placing in the Junior division until now. Don't forget, David was up against guys who already graduated high school. As long as he's put the past behind him he's going to have a terrific future ahead of him. Let's hope everyone else can do likewise and appreciate the fact that David is one of the greatest wrestlers Tennessee has ever had. Kudos, David, and good luck to you in the future.
  12. Hey I made it back in time to post before I go to work. Since I've been gone, Mang has won another match, but then he was defeated twice, once by the same guy who beat him in Match #8. Then he received a bye. So right now his record, including the two byes, is 9-3. He should be set to face Washington's Kelly Kubec for 5th place. Good luck, David...
  13. Yeah you did- 5:10 a.m. in the summer? Oh well it's like 12:40 in the afternoon and I just woke up. Now then, since this morning David Mang has won one more match but finally took his first loss in Match #8. But he's still in the tournament so don't count him out. I'm going grocery shopping and then I'm going to work so I might not be making any posts till tonight. Werazzlin, take it from here...
  14. As of Wednesday night David Mang is 5-0 (6-0 if you count the bye). I don't know if this means he's in the finals yet but surely he's at least guaranteed a medal by now. By tomorrow the tournament should be over so I'll post the final results asap. Good night everyone
  15. Leonard and Sharpe both lost again so I think Mang is our only guy still alive.
  16. Yeah Tennessee doesn't usually do too well at Fargo. Last year we had a pretty good team of Cadets and Juniors and the only one who placed was Daniel Baucke. But a lot of those same guys who lost at Fargo were All-Americans in the NCAA tournaments. During the regular season Tennessee does a lot better. Anyway I checked the results again today and it looks like David Mang might be the only wrestler who has a shot at placing. I don't really know how the Fargo is set up, but I think if lose twice before a certain round you're eliminated. If that's the case we're in trouble. Here's the match records so far: J-bo: 0-2 (at 119 and not 125) David Mang: 2-0 plus a bye...fingers crossed everyone Michael Tuck: 0-2 Ryan Konz: 0-2 Travis Leonard: 0-1 Matt Sharpe: 0-1
  17. Here we go... At the Fargo the results are: Greco Cadet: Logan Biddy, 119, 0-2 Junior: David Mang, 130, 4-2 Ryan Konz, 145, 1-2 Freestyle Cadet: Logan Biddy, 119, 2-2 Chip Norwood, 215, 1-2 plus one bye Junior: no results posted yet Josh Jadoobirsingh, 125... David Mang, 130... Michael Tuck, 140... Ryan Konz, 145... Travis Leonard, 152... Matt Sharpe, 215... That's all I know so far
  18. I just checked the results for Greco and I don't think anyone from Tennessee placed in the Cadet or Junior division. As far as I know the only Tennessee contestants for Greco are Logan Biddy (Cadet 119) David Mang (Junior 130 not 125) and Ryan Konz (Junior 145) Freestyle results aren't posted yet, as it just started today. If you want the complete results go to themat.com and on the right it says Fargo Cadet & Junior Event Coverage. It will have a list of the different divisions so you can click on the one you want. A page will come up and on the left side it says Results. Under that it says team results. If you click on it you can select a state and it will show you everyone's match record from that state. The finals are also posted on themat.
  19. What ever happened to Demetrius Johnson? He's been going to Fargo for the last two years at least but I haven't heard his name mentioned since State.
  20. As soon as I find the results I'll post them. The tournament should be finished by Thursday or Friday I think. I did see the name Kelly Felix listed as a participant but I think he was going to a family reunion or something. David Mang was listed at 125 and Ryan Konz at 145.
  21. You have to have a USA Wrestling membership card to be eligible I think. Talk to whoever runs the local off season practices in your area. If you're near Chatanooga talk to coach Steve Henry at Soddy Daisy High School. In middle Tennessee there is coach Jeramie Welder at Franklin High. If you're in Memphis see Michael Marable. He's the head of the TWF. These are the big wrestling clubs I know about. They should be able to hook you up or your sister. Actually as of now it's probably too late for the Fargo. (It started today I think.) But there might be another Virginia Beach tournament this year and maybe they have a girls division, though it won't be as prestigious as the Fargo Classic. Don't worry it's not too late to get your sister into a national tournament. Check themat.com or usawrestling.com. They'll probably have listings of tournaments in case you missed the Fargo. Good luck!
  22. Yeah the 8th grader is from Greenback. The other 8th graders are Alex Manley from Baylor, Mark Simpson from MBA, and TJ Duncan from McCallie. There may be more but those are the ones I know of. By the way there's a 103 or 112 from Father Ryan named Anthony Simpson (I don't know how old he is). I wonder if he's coach Patrick Simpson's son which would make him cousin to John Michael and the others.
  23. Yeah but he's gonna have a tough time getting the training he needs. Doesn't Greenback have like 200 kids in the whole school? Plus there aren't a lot of strong wrestling programs in that area. Jeremy can do it, but he's gonna have a tougher time staying on top than Alex Manley or TJ Duncan since they go to top schools and the toughest tournaments. Jeremy I guess will have to make up for it by getting as much experience on the national level as possible.
