  1. I would not count out Seymour just because they are "Seymour". They are returning a pretty good team and I would look for them to vie for the Region 1 3A championship. After saying that though, if SD can get off to a good start by beating Carter, I think that they can have a .500 or better season. Good luck the the Kees!
  2. Nice spot there ruse?, I used to call the Big Island home before migrating east. It is a shame that Knox County Schools is so tight with money, at least they are tight when it doesn't come to the higher ups' paychecks(soapbox). Could you imagine if every middle and elementary school had established programs that ran their high school's O and D. Not that the Knox is doing too bad in state championships, but it could be much stronger from top to bottom. Oh Well. hsfan, I am sorry to hear that you were treated poorly at the Carter games. I have attended many games, not to mention any other place non-football, and have run into thugs that cause problems. I don't think that those speak for the community or the team, they were just jerks. As to the thoughts that the upper east TN teams would lock out any school from down here, I am not so sure of that. East and South are both around 1100, most of the time, so they would not really factor in. North was is 3A for a good long time, and they were at times tops and other times they were not. Both Betsy and G-Ville would give many teams here a run for their money, so I'll give you that. I do truely believe that the 3A size schools:Betsy, G-Ville, Johnson County, North, Unicoi, and Central should break off and play 3A. They would not have to worry about gas, the only reason they are 4A, because they are all close together. Oh well, just my 2 cents, I don't run the show.
  3. I would like to see the Region 1 teams give the Region 2 teams a run for their money this year, but history is not on their side. I may be wrong, but, other than last year when Carter beat Kingston in the first round, the only Region 1 team to beat a Region 2 team in the playoffs was Seymour in '99 &'00. I think that Region 1 has a tougher time because of the lack of feeder programs, what do you think it is ruse? But there are some beautiful locals for football and I think that the communities and students really come out and support the teams. I would love to see the AAC rise to the level of Region 2, maybe this is the year! Good luck to both Regions!
  4. I do not believe that we can predict the outcome of a week 3 game, there is way too much that can happen between now and then. However, I will step out and say that South-Doyle does have the ability to have a .500 or above season if their linemen get into playing shape and the skill players hold onto the ball. I think that Carter, Gibbs, Clinton, Seymour, and Lenoir City are all winable games for SD, as long as they don't turn the gun on themselves. Again, it is impossible to predict wins/losses, but I do think that the team is in a pretty good position for their best season in years. Good Luck!
  5. To get to the second part of your question, Carter has had moments of brilliance at times during the srimmages. They seem to be a pretty athletic team, not overly blessed with size on line, like South-Doyle, but they seem to be pretty quick of step. The defensive line esspecially looks both quick and strong. At the same time the Hornets have had some bad turnovers and other early season mistakes. I am excited about seeing Carter take on two pretty darn good teams to start the season.
  6. I would think that there are many teams at this point in the year that may be losing a player or two...I can't see too much trouble going on at Carter. I do also think that Seymour is a legitamate threat to the Hornet's chances of a threepeat. There is a strong will to win associated with that program and a pretty strong defense is returning. I am really looking forward to seeing this game, it has really turned into a grudge match...which came to a head in last year's bruhaha.
  7. Post any scores and observations that you have from scrimmages this week. I know that a couple of schools are playing tonight...let's hear some Region 1 chatter.
  8. Historically that has been a major problem with Gibbs. Usually most of their players play both offense and defense, rarely getting off the field. They seem to have a pretty full roster this year, according to their website, so maybe they can find some more players to work in and keep kids fresh.(even though a large roster doesn't guarantee many athletes). Good luck to both CAK and Gibbs this fall, and hopefully the Eagles will build on the playoff appearance to have a winning year.
  9. I have been told that this is one of the best teams that Seymour has had in a while. There is even talk that they may beat the Smokey Bears, and they are actually serious about it this year. They have starters returning to almost every position and a pretty mobile quarterback, which in high school ball can make alot of difference...see Sullivan South. They play 2 5-A schools and 2 4-A schools this fall(and I know someone will say that they are weak schools, but look for South-Doyle to be tough this year) and I do think that they would have a chance against the #3 from region 2...I am an optimist though! Thanks.
  10. Have any of the teams in the region had scrimmages yet? If they have, how did they do? Does anyone have any idea what kind of offense Pigeon Forge will be running this fall, I assume that the offense will change with the new head coach. Thanks.
  11. Do you think that Carter has the ability to not only win the region for the third straight year, but advance in the playoffs. I like the new schedule and feel that it may give them a new toughness going into the playoffs. I would love to see all four playoff seeds in the region move to the second round...I just think that these teams are all full of good kids and have a hard-nosed edge to them. Thanks.
  12. Thanks for the reply there Leonard. Do you really think that Pigeon Forge has the abillity to bounce back after such a heart-breaking year? As I said on the voting post, I think that Gibbs may have a shot this year. I really don't have any proof to back my idea, but it seems that they usually make a good run at it every ten years or so; also I heard that Carroll may be leaving at the end of the year so that may give them added insentive to fight. What about Union County, last year they had a pretty good running back and a pretty large line. Will a lack of depth seal their fate. Thanks again Leonard.
  13. 1. Carter Until proven otherwise 2. Seymour Plenty of Returning Starters 3. Gibbs Are due a winning season 4. Rutledge Always lurking and looking to prove a point 4. Union County Tough and may surprise a team or three 6. Pigeon Forge Not easy to counter an 0-10 record 7. Claiborne Last year was the season, too much to replace Just my two cents.
  14. How do the teams in Region 1-3A look to fare this fall? Let's have some discussions of the teams and keep it a clean forum. If anyone knows how the teams have done in scrimmages let's hear about that, too.
