  1. Very few schools have solid strength and conditioning programs.

Does the freshmen at Riverdale and Oakland participate in a strength and conditioning program?

Oakland's freshmen do lift during the school day. The outgoing seniors started the spring and summer leading to their freshman year, showing up in groups of 30-40. I sure this has grown as the Varsity has shown marked improvement.

  2. The wing T is a great offense. At Lancaster Christian, we run the Double Wing. It's more old fashioned and boring than the wing T. These offenses are time tested and proven. If you don't think these offenses can win in 5A don't tell Clovis East in California. You guys should check them out on YouTube. They are beating schools that have as many as 10 division 1 prospects each. This is big time 5A California football and Coach Tim Murphy is getting it done with the Double Wing Double Tight Offense. He even took his team down to Midland Lee, Texas and beat their spread with this old, ugly offense. It's based on double teams, multiple pullers, and of course misdirection. These offenses aren't popular today but they can be very effective when the details are properly coached. God Bless

    Coach

I coached for 3 years in Fresno in Clovis East's conference. They are the real deal, each school in that conference has at least 2,500-3,200 kids. That offense is as boring as can be. They had toyed with Spread Stuff, but when it came to nut cuttin' time, that double wing is tough. A few years earlier Clovis West took that "textbook" Wing to to Massilon Ohio and beat them.

Another poster had it right when he said that people who think that you can't win in high classifications here are ignorant.

  3. I'd Love nothing more than to see our sophomores step up and take Blackman deep next year, my only concern is that BHS had plenty of talent this year and it never came together. The biggest thing is playing as a team. By the way my main concern with the shotgun at the 2 yd line is the snap, if you recall against Overton we were near the goal line and there was a bad snap and we were lucky to score on that play.

Mauricio is a talented athlete and has great potential, he was very effective as a runner and his passing game came along as the year went along. Yes he did have many touchdowns in short yardage situations, I was just saying that the shotgun scares me a little more than a dive play, at times it worked and at times it didn't, but the only time Blackman ran a sneak from under center we scored. Still think I didn't watch the games?

I guess I'm a fan of of old school pound it out football, but I can learn to like the spread!

It might be apples and oranges, but Florida does a nice job on the Goalline out of the Gun.

  4. If I remember correctly Sonny Gray was recently picked up by Vandy. How can you possibly say Smyrna will win the region besides the fact you are a bulldog follower? The games that I saw Smyrna play this year didn't show me much and that was including Gray. He was without a doubt the best player on the team. If Smyrna wins the region next year the region will be very weak cause Smyrna will not be that strong.

    1)RIVERDALE

    2)WILSON CENTRAL

    3)BLACKMAN

    4)SMYRNA

    5)OAKLAND

    6)LAVERGNE

    7)LEBANON

    8)SIEGEL

I think Wilkes was pretty good, but I can't be sure, I am not much of an expert. I like what your predictions, Blackman has some good juniors, not so sure about WC, look for Oakland to surprise next season.

  5. true, mac had on attire for the occasion also. big as a riverdale fan as i am, if i had middle school aged kids, i would send them to play for oakland. this is a dream come true for the patriots, best candidate possible in my opinion.

welcome back to murfreesboro coach mac...looking forward to seeing him coach. the players will love him and will buy into his system, he has all the tools to take oakland to the next level.

wish they would have brought him on the court and announced him at halftime

Sounds like this might be a dumb question, but what is this guy's background?

  6. How many returning backs and lineman do you have and what grades are they in?

I did not see them play this season. How big are their interior returners on both sides of the ball? and do you think the coach that coached the O-lines and D-lines will be retained if an "I" attack coach is hired? does the same coach do both lines? do you think the DC will be retained?

    thanks for information

Can't speak for the Varsity returners, but the Freshmen are not sending up a whole lot of size. They do have a boat-load of athletes and a quick O-line. They would be well-suited for a wide open offense. Not that it matters much for next season, but down the road...

  7. I thought it seemed early too, but then realized it has been open since before the playoffs started, so around 3 weeks now since we are in round 3. That has been a long time then. I was told the post on the Rutherford County website had the deadline listed as Friday for us and for Eagleville.

Flat, I wish I was in the know......I got my info from an OHS parent while eating a hot dog at the WC/RHS ballgame. ( BTW, they aren't as good as our dogs from OHS.) I admit, we had a great time doing the "what if" game. If I were really in the know, I would be typing a list of who has applied instead of asking yall for one. hahahaah! I also heard they wanted somone firmly in place by Xmas. I agree with that b/c the offseason is VERY important esp if a new person is planning toinstall new schemes.

Agreed about Christmas being an important deadline. But less about installing schemes, but more about changing attitudes and establishing and reinforcing HIGH expectations. It is hard to change a player's way of thinking. If a coach can get the kids to play harder than they think they can play then installing new offensive and defensive systems is really easy.

  8. I feel like we are going to get some really good candidates. I am anxious to hear some definite names.

What I don't want is someone who is going to come but be looking over his shoulder for the next better thing to come along. Meaning someone who has been with several programs in a short period of time like that Meadows guy that used to be at Jeff County. I want someone that plans to be with us a LONG time. I want someone who is not trying to come to bump their retirement pay, someone who doesn't have a history of interviewing at other schools to get a raise, or a talent jumper. These kids need committment and consistency.

I really don't think that there are many other opportunities better than this one. With the young players Oakland has coming up and the fact that ALL of the kids are in a weight class with a coach should be enough to succeed (not many schools have that luxury)

Anyone who is in this game for pay should get out of it.

Coaches who leave schools because the talent level is going down are just telling the world what they know themselves, they can't coach.

We need a coach whose teams over-achieve, not someone who wins when he has talent and loses when hedoesn't. Someone whose teams compete with teams that are bigger and faster than his own.

  9. Uh... Jeff Shipley plays "Happy Trails" at the end of every Smryna home game regardless of winning or losing. If you want to talk about class, how about the guy from W.C. who ran up to the refs after the game and was insulting them and shouting in their faces? Good teams find ways to overcome marginal penalties....losers just whine about them.

Was that WC guy a coach? If so it was too little too late. I thought on the accidental whistle that there was not enough of a reaction from the WC coaches. That play changed the flow of the game, whether or not what MIGHT have happend to the WC quarterback (BTW I would take that kid in space 1on1 against anyone).

In my short experience Smyrna has some issues to work regarding class from their players, from the top all the way down, but in the end the best way to deal with that type of thing is DO NOT LOSE and THAT WON'T BE A PROBLEM.

  10. There is no pride loss in losing just as Riverdale did last year to the state champions. The boys played hard but played down to the level of competition once again and that comes from the coaching staff. The defensive game plan was all over the place and they players seemed confused. Once again as it has been all year the big play hurt and this time they couldnt over come it. Congrats to WC and great job of watching game film. They knew right where Riverdales weaknesses were and attached them with no adjustment from the defensive coordinator. Keep it up WC and go put it on Smyrna. Lets keep the title in the region and if anyone from east tennessee has there douts where the strength in Tennessee football is they are blind. Should make for an interesting year next year with most all the teams lossing so many starters on both sides of the ball. Go for it now WC, with only 38 dressed and lossing so many next year, this may be your only chance for a long time. Make the most of it and congrats to all on a great season...

Played down to the level of the competiton? What!? You got throttled. Period. There is no playing down to the competition in the playoffs against a team from Region 4-5A.

Simply put, they should have played up to the level of the competition, instead of looking past the Wildcats.

  11. Good gosh this thread got off track worse than some of the ones I used to be a part of..... /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Okay,I was told that yesterday was the cutoff to apply for the Oakland job and the Eagleville job. So.....does anyone have a list of either school's candidates?? I cannot confirm this by any person in authority, but was told that OHS had around 30 applications turned in and that a HC with a ring from a prestigious school in Williamson County was seen on campus. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

That seems like an early cutoff, especially since that is not mentioned in the posting on Tssaa.org. But you are in the know and I did hear that a new coach should be in place at Oakland by Christmas. I hope that the DC at WC had a chance to apply.
