  1. I've always said that even in a loss, you should never blame the umpires for a few bad calls......I stand corrected. Tonight in Brighton, Dyer County beat Northside 11 to 3 in the first game forcing a 2nd game for the championship. Bottom of the 8th score is tied at 5, DC has bases loaded, two outs and the batter hits the ball to left center scoring 2 runners and DC begins to celebrate after the 1st runner comes across home plate. The home plate umpire calls the batter out because he says he stepped out of the box and we have to go to a 9th inning. NS gets 2 runs....DC doesn't score; therefore DC takes 2nd and NS gets 1st. It is KNOWN first of all that all 3 umpires are from Jackson; second of all there are NO visible lines showing where the box is! How in the WORLD can this umpire call this? There is NO WAY he actually saw his foot step out of that box. Plus....isn't there such a thing as a swinging bunt? Is it not the same as in softball with a slap bunt? TALK ABOUT BEING BLINDSIDED!!!! I am currently working on the video and will paste the link soon!

  2. Power is one of the 5 tools. I have watched a lot of baseball over the years and there are very few guys that truly are 5 tool players. anyways,i would venture to guess that there are a grand total of zero guys in the state that have double digit homeruns and an average below .250... Why is there so much hype about home runs? because it takes skill to hit them thats why. sure a blind hog finds a nut every now and then but some one hitting .125 isn't going to ever hit 10 bombs.

    GOOD POINT!!!!

  3. No batter gets up to bat with intentions of 'HITTING IT OUT'. It just happens........ ** let me rephrase that....batters shouldn't go to the plate hoping for a HR.

Congrats on your son hitting the long ball--it IS very exciting! My son hit his first of this season on a hit and run. It was actually a high ball, but he HAD to swing at it.......thank goodness it went!!! I never said they weren't "exciting" or that they didn't make us proud........I just like the more rounded player than "just a long baller" :bored: Enjoy the season!

  4. The long ball is overrated......THEY HAPPEN BY MISTAKE.

Oh and you can't forget that dreaded WIND this time of year. There are some that wouldn't have a chance without the help of mother nature.

That being said....I do realize how exciting it is to see them. Trust me, I still get excited when my son hits them too and he's hit them out @ Dyer County High School. If the player keeps "BASE HIT" on their minds and NOT that homerun shot they should be ok. But I do see many that are swinging for the moon after they hit one and they end up with a strike out or a pop up. Just my observation. Thank you for all the input. I still prefer the "5-tool guy". :bored:

  5. Ok terrible post. I agree negative 100%. NewellHartbaseball the only reason you made this post was cuz either you cant hit a homerun or your son cant hit a homerun:):roflolk::):(:):):(:):!::):):):):):):):):):):):)

I hesitate to even respond to your childish post; however, I must say first of all.....I am a 41 year old woman and NO I COULD NOT hit a homerun if my life depended on it.......I was in band (color guard) in High School. Second of all, my son gets his athletic ability from his daddy. Yes, he can and has hit the long ball; although that's not what he's known for.

***by the way...that's isn't why I made the post....I just hear "daddys" and "players" talk a lot about homeruns, but I am curious as to what others thought.

  6. Ok, so I hear and see A LOT of talk about homeruns and people wanting to know who the homerun leader is so far.....blah blah blah......To me I'd rather see a consistant base hit player. Why all the hype if the batting average is low and the strike outs are high?

Why don't we focus more on the "5 tool" man............ hitting for power, hitting for average, running speed, arm strength, and defensive ability?????

  7. Oh this would be AWESOME! Could you PLEASE ask them to broadcast a Dyer County game? My husband is in Iraq and would LOVE to hear it via the internet! He absolutely hates that he is missing his junior year of baseball but so very glad he'll be back for the SENIOR season!!!! How awesome would it be for him to hear his son playing ball while in Iraq!!!!????

Ma'am -- on behalf of all of us fathers who are able to see our sons play the game of baseball thank you, your family and especially your husband for the sacrifices he is making to protect and spread democracy. May God bless and protect your husband and the other men and women serving our country on foreign soil.

  9. They can be very good! There is a lot of talent.....just need some guys to step it up and make it happen! It takes more than practice with team....gotta be some self help going on. Several have the potential to some damgage at the plate and on the mound if they put their mind to it. Young group of contenders, but they will compete!

Good luck...how strong is your pitching?

Pitching is YOUNG with the exception of Gregory; however, they have played in a lot of high pressure games and proven to be up to the task ahead!

  10. I know Dyer Co. Played Dyersburg Saturday. Dyersburg is full of seniors, are supposed to be a strong team. Know Dyer Co. is young. How well did Dyer Co. do ?

Well....to be quite honest with ya, I think DC may have come out on top, but really....I just lost track. They played like 14 straight innings with the umpires leaving during one of them to swap out positions, but they kept playing with Coach Sims calling from behind the pitcher, which is never a good place to judge balls & strikes. A lot of subbing in and out of players from both teams, so it was mostly a "get some REAL game practice" in my opinion. Dyersburg should be right back at the State tournament again this year. They have too much talent NOT to.

  11. Everyone has their opinion, but Joe Jackson is definately NOT overrated! He can flat out play ball. But then....several WS players seemed to have some "mad skills" as did Dyer County! LOL (loved that saying ever since I heard it) Anywho...you can't take a single thing away from Jackson. He was contained by DC; however, still an awesome athelete. Casey Prather is also another fantastic athelete. Seemed like ANYTHING these two boys tossed up WENT IN, which was quite amazing to me! I really thought the Choctaws were totally out of their league during the first half and thought it was going to be a LONG game, but they showed me in the second half they were right in there. I do think having Jackson on the bench some during the 2nd half helped the Choctaws. I didn't think DC played their best tonight either. But then again....I'm not up on a lot of basketball....baseball is MY sport. Very proud of you Choctaw boys!!!! Best of luck to White Station at the Boro!!!

  12. The State Gazette sent out message yesterday: "the gate for tomorrow night's game ....will open at 5:00" Also heard that there will be NO SAVING OF SEATS. Administration is going to be on top of this. Way too many ppl getting there early to put jackets and stuff in seats to save them for friends coming later.....which is WRONG! So DCHS admin is going to help with this.....just what I've heard.....:thumb: GO CHOCTAWS!!!!

  14. I may have mis heard but I thought Charles Maxi said they missed 2 in the forth quarter.

Either way it was a great game down to the wire ;)[/quote

oh...I may have missed that in the 4th. You are right....even via the radio waves I was on the edge of my seat! Way to go Choctaws!!!

  15. Okay, so I posted this from the TSSAA site classifications.....why does it just have "(FB)" ? Then does OUR region (Dyer Co) consist of dist 13 & 14? Then how does it go for Sub State? I know the thread is 13 AAA Predictions, but thought I could get it answered here. Thanks!

  16. But it's not "dead period" for baseball. However; if it's your school's policy that you CANNOT practice if school is out, then you have a legit point. Are you sure it's not more of....no practice unless coach says practice is still on for those who can get here? I know we were out for snow, but the baseball team still practiced.....but coach made it very clear that if you couldn't get there for bad road conditions, call him and it was okay. At that point though the roads weren't that bad here..... :popcorneater:

  17. You have got to be kidding me!!! this is terrible, why is a MOM on here trying to talk up her own son. let his play talk, and you keep your mouth shut. If i was that kid i would be embarresed that his mom his talking him up on COACHT.com. Scouts do not read this, so no need to try and sell your son to us. Let his play do his talking!!

Keep MY MOUTH SHUT????? Are you serious? I am NOT "selling" my son to YOU....JUST A PROUD MOM HERE ...THAT'S ALL. You think I'm the only one?? NOOOO....I'm just the HONEST one that actually posts who I am. Embarrass him, yeah he probably wouldn't like it, but I am proud of him and think he's done quite well. People posts kids stats, I post kids stats.....including MY KID. He DID hit .750 at the state tournament...pretty good in my book. Love me or Hate me....makes no difference to me....I AM WHO I AM. :roflolk::roflol:

  18. Not sure of Nick Newell's over all batting avg as a sophomore, but he did hit 10 homers as a sophomore and batted a .750 at the State Tournament.

quit talking yourself up bro, and talking in 3rd person isnt fooling anybody, especially considering your username includes your name

excuse me young man but I am HIS MOTHER. And I am stating the facts.
