I think it is customary for opponents or booster clubs to pay for travel. Tax payers would not stand for that in my opinion. The other option is to stay home and kick the crap out of the usual suspects and spew bitterness at programs who do step up to the plate. Recruiting issue? Should it not be issues? Many people say that Maryville recruits - that's good enough for me. It is just sad to recruit good players, kick the crap out of the locals and pound your chest about winning 4A. Thank goodness for 8 classes with the privates seperated!!!! It was a long 20 years wasn't it?

It appears to me that USA1's point was that the letter, regardless of content, was not an attempt to recruit or apply undue influence to attend Brentwood Academy. They had already signed up.

Why do you assume that he needs tuition assistance? Brandan Wright never received a dime of financial aid and he is a great athlete and African American. No one at Ravenwood pays a dime to go to school. Everyone gets assistance. In fact I pay for Ravenwood and my kids do not go there! No one at Ravenwood is paying anything for any BA kids to go to school and many BA parents are paying for Ravenwood kids to go to school. I don't think you deserve answers from us and I think we deserve some appreciation from you.

See now, that is a new one on me. People accuse Maryville of recruiting? I have always heard that they play a cupcake schedule, but I did not know about this recruiting thing. Kind of surprising that you would throw rocks at us from your glass house.

You young little Grass Hopper. I was a Hoover Bear. Eph Hoover, founder of Hoover Crushed Stone (rock quarries) built Una and sponsored the team. That was before Phil King. His son Tony is a BA alum. We played at Shelby Park back in those days and dominated. People always accused us of recruiting out of our district. How could DUDEWHOISRUDE leave out Una!?! That sounds like a pretty dead on assessment and was thinking the same thing about the field goal kickers. The BA kicker is average. Your kicker and Bartholomew are the two biggest edges for MBA in my opinion.

Plus, there is that good ol' intangible, intense "wanna BEAT those guys" mutual feeling that adds the zest to the rivalry. Bob, why don't you take this up on one of your threads. You know: "Maryville vs. Blount County Middle School: How does this play out!!!" Brandon and the entire football world lost touch with Maryville for twenty years (I think it is called the "Maryville Black Hole Years"). Once they created 8 classes and separated the privates it created an opportunity for Maryville to prosper and it gave Brandon something to talk about. It is refreshing to see you post without discussing little boys, you and mens' rooms. I was worried about seeing Smilin Bob from Maryville on Dateline.

I don't want to get it all started again. I could not respect Maryville anymore than I do. How could you not respect their program, commitment, coach, etc? There has been a year or so in the past few that they have been clearly the best team in the state - bar none (IMO). Whether they played a tough schedule or not. I am just saying that it would be fun to see them in a big game or two. Kind of like Alcoa with McCallie last year. When someone builds a big, fast pretty car, you want to watch it run and see how fast it will go. We will see it when they go to 5A, so we are kind of spinning our wheels talking about it now.

I know you are doing all you can. It is the schedulers that allow all of the doubt as reflected in this poll. Doubt outside of 4A anyway.

I was using an analogy to express that "I believe you". I would be sincerely and profoundly shocked if you did not win another 4A state championship "no picture necessary".

Interesting that you bring that up. We were teammates on the 80,81,82 State Championship teams and haven't really talked since, until this post started and he said enough for me it identify who he was. Now, if that isn't a CoachT feel good story, I don't know WHAT is.
