  1. For the team's achievements against Bruceton and on the year, Coach Spivey on Monday, was named the Tennessee Titans Tennessee High School Coach of the week: http://www.titansonline.com/news/newsmain_....php?PRKey=6093 Awesome job. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  2. There is a highlight reel from Friday night's game posted on the following linked website if anyone is interested: http://www.fultonkynews.com/
  3. The news form the scrimmage sounds really encouraging, even better than I had hoped for. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  4. Unfortunately, I have heard a couple of negative comments about how long the practices are after last week's Fulton Leader article came out. These comments were not from anyone with kids on the team, thankfully. I thought what I read in the Leader sounded like the most encouraging bit of info that I could ever recall, regarding the plight of our team and I say just let the man do his job. I think maybe some people are just kind of taken aback because Coach Spivey's approach is such a contrast to what people have been used to for the last 19 years.
  5. Per the newspaper article that I linked earlier: "Spivey will likely bring with him an assistant coach who??™ll serve as the Red Devils??™ offensive coordinator, though he elected not to identify that person until later."
  6. Thanks for the info guys. Here is an article I just found about the hiring: http://www.nwtntoday.com/news.php?viewStory=5463
  7. I was guessing that LC was Lake County, since it is near South Fulton. Who Knows? LC could be Lake County, Lawrence County, Lewis County, Loudon County, Lenoir City...
  8. Of course, that's true about Fishel having the specified experience. However, I keep hearing that he is interested in finding something in the Jackson area (albeit, I have no idea how credible any of my sources are)? Thanks for the heads up on the TSSAA bulletin board. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  9. Well, according to this week's Fulton Leader (sorry, no online link available), AD Powell stated what he was looking for in a coach: -five years of experience running a complete program, -good communication skills and ability to work with school administrators, -good teaching skills, -ability to be leader in the community, blah, blah... Also, he said that they have received 35 applications, so far. The main feeling that I take from this article is one of skepticism, concerning the prerequisite of five years head coaching experience. I mean, if a coach has that kind of experience and is any good, would he really be interested in coming to a program that is 1-19 over the last two years? I would rather take a talented and energetic assistant than someone of a lesser caliber, who has the desired length of experience.
  10. I'm sure the fact that it was Coach Wilson calling the plays this year, instead of Wood, had something to do with the silly "Double Pass" play not being utilized. Regarding that play and how it was used there were always two things I was certain of: (1) Whenever the backup quarterback entered the game and was lined up at wide receiver there was about a 90% chance that the double pass was coming. (2) If I could recognize (1), while sitting in the bleachers, then it couldn't have been very difficult for the opposing coaching staff to decipher.
  11. From what I hear, Fishel is a top-notch guy, so I kind of hesitate to be critical of him. But, I don't know if your claim that he has an "impeccable record" is 100% accurate. If my memory is correct, I believe that all of his seasons at UC, besides 2005, were something of a disappointment for UC fans. And with that being said, I kind of worry that if he has trouble succeeding at a place like Union City, then it would be even more difficult for him at a place like South Fulton, where his resources would be even more limited. As far as him playing for SF, so did Kelly, Wilson, and McFarland. So, call me crazy, but I think the ideal situation would be to bring in Fishel as an assistant (he said in the UC Messenger article that he would be open to such ideas) and to name Wilson as the head coach.
  12. Really. That's interesting to me, because when I was in high school, in the early 1990s, I would have rated him as the BEST teacher at the High School. Of course, a lot of time has passed since then and his style might have changed, somewhat. Also, History was my favorite subject so I probably favor that subject's teachers over others.
  13. Just curious, as to why that would be the case, since History is the subject already being taught by Wilson and Kelly?
  14. I have to agree. He hasn't exactly been overachieving in Union City. I would much rather see the job go to Wilson than to Fishel.
  15. The fact that all of the coaches are tenured teachers, I think will prevent the OCSD from following the advice of your analogies. But to play along, if the "Sheriff" has been the one setting the tone, I don't think it can be assumed, with certainty, that all of the "Deputies" need to be replaced?
  16. I stand corrected, as far as 1997 goes. My bad. As far as McFarland goes, who knows? But, I would kind of think that if they are considering candidates from within the system, that Wilson might have an edge, because has more experience at the high school level, plus he has experience working in some other successful programs.
  17. Well, if he does or doesn't go for the job, I won't be surprised either way. But I hope he does apply and I hope he gets it.
  18. I certainly don't ever remember a Wood team making it within two games of a State Championship? The best I can recall them doing was the season they only lost two games (both to Bruceton) and I still don't think that they made it farther than round 2 of the playoffs that year. I think Brent Wilson would be the best coach to take over and I don't think to hire him would signal "more of the same." After all, I believe he worked in some pretty successful programs before coming to SF.

  20. I dont believe anyone will be able to take any solace in a forfeited win against Fulton City, especially given their margin of victory in the actual game. If anything I feel really bad for Fulton City, because they have one of the best teams, this year, that I can ever remember them having and now their season will most likely be ruined.
  21. I went to the SF v. UC game last year and had the exact same thought. How in the world is this team Single A? As far as the head coach goes, I didn't play football when I was in high school, but I know that many people (mostly former players) have been saying we need a new coach for almost the entire time he has been there.
  22. What a great quote from the coach, Congratulations to Cosby on a great season.
  23. How many Skogens are there? Goodness, are they about to run out? And another thing, I don't think anyone should be critical of South Fulton. Everyone knows they had a winless season, but from 1997-2002 they were one of the winningest Single A programs in the state. They went to the Boro each of those years and won it all in 2000. Every program falls on hard times and they are no different. They will come back as good as ever.
