  1. Ya'll need to get somebody down there to teach reading comprehension in the school system at McEwen. I never said that McEwen lacked speed. I said that Heritage did and they do. Read it again.
  2. His speed didn't help Heritage (who has none) at all.
  3. Heritage ought to be ashamed to get blown out at home to McEwen on Homecoming. Hats off to McEwen for the win. I thought that Coach Brown had this program on the right track. But the Patriots won't make the playoffs this year. Jo Byrns will walk the dog on this team and several others likely will as well. I counted 23 dressed players on the field for McEwen. Too one dimensional on offense with no speed. Gonna be a long year in White House. Sadly.
  4. Gotta give props where due. I didn't think Henry would win this one. I was wrong. Congrats on the big win vs. a very good Melrose defense. You earned it. Should be a great game next week.
  5. Lipscomb NERD....if Region 7 is so weak, explain to the CoachT beloved why then is Jackson Northside, Liberty Tech, and Jackson Central Merry all ranked in the Top 10 on THIS very website for toughest schedule! Wait a second.......let me count the Region 8 4AAA teams in the top ten........ummm.......hmmmm.......well that number is ZERO!!! Typcal Lispscomb nerd......Bison or Mustang...you are all the same!! Let's just shoot the messenger and resort to name calling. Great strategy. Your opinion holds no more weight than mine does. If Melrose wins, which I feel they will, I'll show more class than you have by not coming back and saying "Told Ya So!" Good luck.
  6. Melrose is giving up 4.1 ppg and has given up FIFTY points all year long. They've given up 12 points total in their past 7 games. They have played a MUCH more difficult schedule against superior talent in the Memphis City school system on a weekly basis. A team like Henry County sees about the same number of talented players scattered across West Tennessee in season that a team like Melrose sees weekly. What makes you think that Henry County is going to just run up and down the field and score at will? Nobody else has been able to do it all year. Region 7 is a weak region. I think even the most ardent homer would admit that. There is not a 4A or 5A team outside of Memphis in West Tennessee that is not in Region 7. Did you realize that? The Jackson teams are down considerably from some good football that they have enjoyed through the years. Hardin County is a perennial 3-4 loss team in their best year's of football. I believe they have won 10 games (including playoffs) once in the last 40 years. The only way that Melrose loses this game is if they give it away.
  7. HC will struggle to score points against Melrose. I doubt that HC scores more than 14. Too many athletes for Melrose. Also, Region 7 is weak. Melrose - 35 HC - 7
  8. If White House does the following, they win (IMO): 1) Be lethargic on offense. What I mean by this is to use as much time pre-snap without getting flagged for 5 yards as possible. They obviously need to be effective once the ball is snapped. But if they can lull PC to sleep by making the game as boring as possible, they will be successful in this regard. 2) Commit to run the ball between the tackles. Dives, traps, ISOs. Hand off to the first man through on occasion to mix it up a little. I believe this is the key for any "country" team to have a good chance to beat a "city" team. Whether you are talking Nashville, Memphis, Chattanooga, or Knoxville. 3) Run some screen passes out of the backfield with Payne and Dixon AND run some flanker screens back to the middle of the field with the SE's and WR's. 4) PA to the TE. I guarantee you this will be open many times throughout the night. And WH can pick up chunks of yardage here if they can connect. If the running game is somewhat successful, this will only be accentuated more. 5) Use men in motion, shifts, and some misdirection. Keep em guessing. A combination of all the above will eat up clock, put points on the board, and keep PC's offense on the sideline. But WH will have to execute and be smart with the football. If they are, I think they are the more disciplined and fundamentally sound team and they win. If they try to get in a shooting match with PC, WH is in trouble.
  9. Who Has the Best High School Football??? I put this data together over the past few days in an attempt to help sort out the answer. I??™m not going to offer any commentary. I??™ll leave that up to the readers. You can analyze this and draw your own conclusions about who has the best brand of ball in the state and why. These facts only add statistical analysis to the equation. Note: PRIVATE means a private school. I did not break it down from who was Division II or who was regular Class in state among private schools. If you have to pay to go there, it??™s a private school for the sake of this data. Enjoy and feel free to share. I took all champions at all levels in high school football from 1982-2006. This is a 25 year sampling and for lack of a better term ??“ The Modern Era. I tried to be as detailed and as fair as possible in analyzing the data and drawing my own conclusions. Following, are the results of my analysis. Hope you enjoy and this was a lot of fun to put together. From 1982-2006, there were 129 total championship games played (all levels combined). I had calculated 130 games in another post earlier today, but later noted that Excel added in a blank row and was counting it. To be fair, I included both the Champion and the Runner-Up in each game. I will show statistics both ways, as well as combined. We??™ll start in West Tennessee and move across the state. From 1982-2006, West Tennessee High School teams combined to win 27 of 129 Championships in Tennessee HS football. That equates to 20.9% of all championships won. Of those titles, 21 wins were by teams either from Memphis Metro/Shelby County, or private schools with addresses in Shelby County. Of those teams that won titles, 14 of them were private schools in either Class A-AA-AAA at the time or the now Division II classification; 5 of them were Memphis Metro schools; 1 of them was a Shelby County school (Germantown ??“ Twice). Of the 27 West Tennessee wins during this stretch, Memphis-area teams accounted for 77% of the titles. Of the remaining 6 titles won in West Tennessee over that period, only 6 championships were won by teams outside of the Memphis/Shelby County area. Of those 6, five of them were won by what I would consider ???rural??? teams and public schools not closely tied to a metropolitan area: Huntingdon ??“ 2003 Milan ??“ 1998 & 1999 Bruceton Central ??“ 1989 Lake County ??“ 1985 The remaining lone title was won by Jackson Christian School just last year (a private school). Non-Memphis teams accounted for 23% of West Tennessee championships during this timeframe. As far as making to a championship game, but falling short ??“ West Tennessee teams appeared in an impressive 48 Finals during the 25 year run. Of those 48 teams, 26 of them were from Memphis/Shelby County. Of the 26 mentioned, 17 of them were private schools; 6 were from Memphis Metro; and 2 were from Shelby County schools (Germantown ??“ 3 times). Of the remaining 22 teams outside of Memphis/Shelby County to reach a Final, 4 were from private schools; 18 were from public schools. But most impressive here is that 17 of the 18 were from traditional, rural, public school systems. Unfortunately though, all 17 lost and the average margin of victory by the opponent in those games was by 15 ppg. The average margin of victory in games in which West Tennessee teams won titles was: Overall ??“ 15.4 ppg Vs. East TN Teams ??“ 13.6 ppg Vs. Middle TN Teams ??“ 11.9 ppg Vs. West TN Teams ??“ 20.6 ppg Private vs. Private ??“ 17.7 ppg. Private vs. Public ??“ 12.8 ppg. Public vs. Private ??“ 19.7 ppg. Public vs. Public ??“ 11.1 ppg. The average margin of defeat in games which West Tennessee teams lost titles was: Overall ??“ 16.7 ppg Vs. East TN Teams ??“ 9.3 ppg Vs. Middle TN Teams ??“ 20.8 ppg Vs. West TN Teams ??“ 20.6 ppg Private vs. Private ??“ 19.8 ppg. Private vs. Public ??“ 19.4 ppg. Public vs. Private ??“ 17.2 ppg. Public vs. Public ??“ 13.2 ppg. Moving on to Middle Tennessee, 61 of 129 Champions hailed from the midstate (47%). Of those 61 teams, 23 were from Nashville/Davidson County. And of those 23, TWENTY of them were private schools; three were Metro Nashville schools. Of the remaining 38 Middle Tennessee teams to win championships from 82-06, twelve of them were private schools and ALL were located in Williamson County. However, a very impressive 26 teams public high school teams outside of the Nashville/Davidson & Franklin/Williamson area won State Titles during this sampling. And in fairness, I believe you could say that of those 26 teams, a strong case could be made that 18 of them were from ???small town??? or ???rural??? areas. Additionally, Middle Tennessee sent 51 teams to compete in title contests. Of those 51 teams, only 15 were from Nashville/Davidson County. Of those 15, ten were private schools; 5 were Metro Nashville schools. Of the remaining 36 schools, 14 of them were private schools. And all but two (Friendship Christian Academy & Clarksville Academy) were from Williamson County (BA and BGA). The remaining 22 schools were from Middle Tennessee communities outside of Nashville/Davidson & Franklin/Williamson and 13 of them were from ???small town??? or ???rural??? communities. The average margin of victory in games in which Middle Tennessee teams won titles was: Overall ??“ 16.9 ppg Vs. East TN Teams ??“ 13.9 ppg Vs. Middle TN Teams ??“ 15.5 ppg Vs. West TN Teams ??“ 20.8 ppg Private vs. Private ??“ 13.4 ppg. Private vs. Public ??“ 19.4 ppg. Public vs. Private ??“ 25.4 ppg. Public vs. Public ??“ 21.8 ppg. The average margin of defeat in games which Middle Tennessee teams lost titles was: Overall ??“ 15.8 ppg Vs. East TN Teams ??“ 17.4 ppg Vs. Middle TN Teams ??“ 15.6 ppg Vs. West TN Teams ??“ 11.9 ppg Private vs. Private ??“ 10.3 ppg. Private vs. Public ??“ 14.3 ppg. Public vs. Private ??“ 18.3 ppg. Public vs. Public ??“ 17.6 ppg. Sweeping over to East Tennessee, from 1982-2006 the ET teams combined to win 41 of 129 state titles (32%). In following the pattern above, only 13 teams from Knox and Hamilton Counties combined won titles. Of those 13 teams, only 4 were from private schools. The other 9 were from Knoxville City Schools (7) and Chattanooga City Schools (2). Of the remaining East Tennessee teams, 28 from outside of the Knoxville/Chattanooga area won championships. And only one of those (Livingston Academy) was a private school. The other 27 were public and at least 14 of them were from ???rural??? areas. The rest are all from ???small towns.??? Additionally, East Tennessee was responsible for sending 30 other participants to championship match-ups. Of the 30 schools, 3 were private schools from Chattanooga and 3 were private schools from Knoxville. The other 24 schools break down like this: Chattanooga City (1); Knoxville City (6); East Tennessee Public (17). Twelve would be considered ???rural??? and five would be classed as ???small town.??? The average margin of victory in games in which East Tennessee teams won titles was: Overall ??“ 16.9 ppg Vs. East TN Teams ??“ 26.0 ppg Vs. Middle TN Teams ??“ 17.4 ppg Vs. West TN Teams ??“ 9.3 ppg Private vs. Private ??“ 12.5 ppg. Private vs. Public ??“ No Games Played Public vs. Private ??“ 13.7 ppg. Public vs. Public ??“ 15.0 ppg. 10. With all due respect, I am not overly surprised by the WC win. WHH is still finding their way as a football program. Congrats to WC, but their season will come to a halt next Friday night in Adams, TN. WHH will be a 1A force in the years to come if they stay 1A. Families move into WH weekly and the school zone up here is shallow in Robertson Co. Good luck to the Cats. They will need it. I have seen JB in person and I don't think that WHH would have been able to beat JB in Week 2 next week.
  11. McNairy flat out put it on David Lipscomb! If McNairy wouldn't have lost this game by 4 TD's, they could very well be a threat to win the state this year. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  12. Re-read it. I did leave out ALL Davidson County (to include Nashville Metro) schools. I actually broke it down by WT with/without Shelby vs. MT with/without Davidson. Either way, it's MT in a landslide.
  13. bobcat: Not to pick on you personally, but your statement above could not be farther from the truth. I went back to 1982 (25 years and the modern era) and looked at all champions in football combining all classes. Out of 130 Champions (Class A, AA, AAA, 4A, 5A, DIV I, DIV II) - a GRAND total of 6 teams hailed from West Tennessee when you remove Shelby County teams from the equation. That's a very less than impressive 4%. Those teams are: 2006 - Jackson Christian 2003 - Huntingdon 1999 - Milan 1998 - Milan 1989 - Bruceton Central 1985 - Lake County That's it. And if you want to include Shelby County teams, the West Tennessee total of champions only climbs to 25 total. And without listing them all, I can tell you that the majority were won by either Bishop Byrne, Briarcrest, Memphis University School, and Evangelical Christian School (11 of the 25 among these 4 schools). Germantown and Melrose combined to win 4 additional titles during that time. In direct comparison, Middle Tennessee teams (outside of Davidson County) combined to win 39 of 130 Championships from 1982-2006. That relates to 30% of all titles won during that timeframe. And for all the titles that Brentwood Academy (Williamson County) has won, if you take them and other major metropolitan teams out of the equation, Middle Tennessee teams have still won 25 of 130 Championships. When you throw in Davidson County teams, Middle Tennessee boasts 62 of 130 Championships during the past 25 years ( 48%). I grew up in West Tennessee and used to vehemently defend that part of the state as it pertains to HS football. But having lived in Middle Tennessee now since the mid 1990's, I can honestly say that there is no comparison. Middle Tennessee plays a far superior brand of football than does West Tennessee. And the facts back that up. Rounding out the stats, East Tennessee garnered 40 of 130 Champions during the past 25 years (31%). When you take Knox County and Hamilton County metro teams out of the equation, 27 teams still won titles (21%). So any way you slice it, West Tennessee football does not stack up to the rest of the state. History bears that fact out. I don't think anyone is disrespecting teams like McNairy, Henry County, Dyer County, McKenzie, etc. Close observers just know that history is grossly against WT teams coming out Champions come playoff time.
  14. Have to give credit to Cascade for winning the game. But as a spectator, I saw nothing overly dynamic about their team. They just played good fundamental football. If the opponent would have kept trying to tackle #5 at the shoulders I would have kept feeding him the ball as well. I think the TD on the bomb right before the half took a lot out of WHH. WHH also made a season's worth of mistakes in this game. But like a good team should, Cascade took advantage and made them pay. I don't know why WHH kept throwing low percentage passes down field. They didn't try any screens, only 1-2 swings, nothing over the middle - short or intermediate. No drags, 1 slant, and no out patterns. All their passes were either on post or fade routes - low percentage plays. I think WHH is ahead of schedule. I believe this is their 4th year of football. If they stay 1A, they will be a force in the region and state. Being only 25 miles from Nashville (the school zone goes less than 5 miles from I-65) they are a big draw for people wanting to get their kids in good schools and move out of Davidson County. There were 240+ kids in the pee wee league up here this year from 7-12 years old. Course, some of those were from Sumner County. I think it's fair to say that they have more upside than anyone in the state in 1A at this time. And in the region by a long shot. I know there is some future growth planned in Robertson County on the WH side. But it's mostly high end homes and townhomes (older people). Most of the blue collar growth is in Sumner County.
  15. Where is the HS stadium in Wayne County? Is it on campus or at the park? If someone would post directions, I would appreciate it. Thanks.
