"You are the winner Gaililee " Markell Smith is becoming a beast on that D-Line and Hinds is a transfer from Melrose who stays low and plugs the holes.. Mitchell coaches were concerned about the D-Line during the spring but during the summer those concerns phased out. Also Mike Taylor , another DL is very fast and athletic to on that d-line. Silas is a young Jevon Kearse. He is fast, athlethic and knock down passes every other play. Now moving over to the offensive side of the ball, you missed the jamboree. Mitchell had 18 points at the 8:42 mark and Coach Cole inserted the JV and 9th graders who held their own until the very last play of the quarter. BTW scored off a tipped pass with no seconds left on the clock. To be honest with you, Mitchell offense is more talented and structered than it was last year. The Defense will be very exciting as well because they didn't have to rebuild, they just reloaded !

The ends are Peterson and Devin Silas. Silas is a monster. Peterson is superfast. There won't be any running around the ends ! Hinds and Big Markell step in at the middle and control the line.

I must disagree Gaililee. The D- Line had two new additions that plugs the holes. There is not a huge difference between The Defense from last year and The Defense of this year. The D- Tackles that start are brand new players to Mitchell ! And they are some DAWGS ! Sheffield looked horrible. Trezevant will be more of a game than Sheffield !

Mitchell look great, now they weren't ready to entertain scoring 40 points in one quarter. I was impressed with what I saw but it was on BTW. However the real test will be next Saturday at The Whitehaven Classic for Mitchell. Next Saturday will tell the story !

These were the games played Thursday night 1st quarter: Northside vs. Manassas 2nd: Craigmont vs. Oakhaven; 3rd: Northside vs. Treadwell; 4th: Cordova vs. Hamilton 5th: Raleigh-Egypt vs. Sheffield 0 - 0 6th: Fairley vs. Wooddale 14 - 0 7th: Mitchell vs. BTW 18 - 0 There was people moving and talking all night long until Mitchell High hit the field. I glanced around the stadium and it was at a complete stand still. Alll eyes were on Mitchell. Mitchell definitely did not disappoint the crowd. The QB Robert Redmond displayed arm strength and crisp sharp passes all night. Pre-Season All American LB Andrew Franklin put on a hitting display like no other, even saluting Fairley High School after he made a thunderous hit on BTW"s rb. The new kids on the block lit up the field with some dynamic moves. The Hudson twins bobbed and weaved on the field listening to the oohs and ahhhs of the crowd. Last year Tennessee's leading receiver Keiwone Malone abused the poor corner from BTW. It was 18 - 0 at the 6:48 mark in the quarter. Coach Nate Cole displayed class and put the JV team in to close out the game. Mitchell is the team that I decided to follow back in January. Once again they are loaded on offense, so opponents beware !

Gabriel Hunter is the best running back in the state. Hunter, The Commercial Appeal's reigning Best of the Preps Offensive Player of the Year, rushed for a Shelby-Metro record 2,679 yards and 29 touchdowns as a junior. He committed to Ole Mis. Mitchell will be deadly from every phase of the game. Finally Mitchell has a kicking game that stretches out to 40 yards. They have a field goal kicker that is kicking with consistency. If the players remain discplined and don't get to reading the press clippings, they will give Coach Cole his first ever state championship. Only Mitchell will be able to beat Mitchell ! It was predicted that Mitchell may score 40 in their Thursday's night High School Jamboree against Booker T. Washington

You are absolutely right ! Alot of West Tennessee teams, especially inner city teams fall short in games simply because they don't have any field goal kickers. If Mitchell had a field goal kicker with the ball at the 5, then the score would have been 21 - 14 late in the fourth quarter. Lipscomb would have only been able to tie it at the end. However if, if was a fifth then we all would be drunk.

Like Galilee said. one game at a time. Mitchell will be in the hunt for the state title and looking for David Lipscomb if they are around. However Mitchell will not overlook anyone.

Do you know that Mitchell had 62 boys at practice on the first day ? However Whitehaven has a sickening 187 boys on the football team. I would hate to be Coach Salisbury, literally.

Mitchell has only 3 home games this year. The schedule alone is a very tough one but to factor in only 3 home games. Memphis Mitchell will travel to Daphne, Alabama again. Mitchell has a very tough schedule facing 5A Whitehaven, 4A Melrose, 6A Daphne AL, 5A Christian Brothers and 4A Fairley. Mitchell loses a very gifted athlete who played QB. However Mitchell has a true QB in Robert Redmond who should light up the scoreboards this season. Mitchell also have some new toys on offense, so it will be very exciting once the season starts.

Memphis Mitchell will be in the mix !

The point is that basically all the kids in the city predominatly attend the same school, So the pool of talent is much greater as oppose to where I am the talent is spreaded out. I like to refer to South Panola High in Batesville Miss. Every kid in that town attends South Panola. So if there are 4000 kids that attend that one school compared to a school like Mitchell, which has only about 800 Students because there are 8 other schools within a 5 mile radius.

Do you have a name for your city besides Middle Tn ? The last time I check there was no such city. I don't need to know much about the geography of where you are from because you and your sorry town are irrelevant. Ok I see ,not to make an excuse but you have only 3 high schools in the county. Mitchell is within a 5 mile radius of Hillcrest, Whitehaven, Fairley, Westwood, Hamilton, Oakhaven, Carver, and Sheffield High Schools. So your school would have much more of a talent base to choose a team from if you get my point.

Oh so you crack yourself up ? Well news flash........ please allow someone else to laugh at your jokes first other than yourself and while waiting I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. On the other hand ,if it was not for cities like Memphis or Nashville then the world wouldn't know that the state of Tennessee existed. Knoxville is known because of The University of Teneessee Vols ,but other than that anything else in between is not a factor !

How can you make a legitmate claim for kids in East Tennessee when everyone in their right minds know most of those kids use anabolic steroids . now you go crawl somewhere, maybe on a funny farm I assume. Mitchell is one of the many teams located in Memphis Tennessee unlike your town where every child goes to one school. What is your population 1,000 ?

I for one will never discredit any team or teams thier given due ! Lipscomb are the state champs and until someone else win it then the road goes through them. As a whole Region 8 couldn't hold Region 5 or probably any other Region's jockstrap. However I am referring only to the 2008 Mitchell High Football team. Now originally, like I stated Lipscomb won by score and I stick behind what I said that Mitchell won the game on the field but blew it. At one point Mitchell was up by two scores in the 4th quarter but couldn't maintain the lead. Region 5 is evry strong and have quaity teams, there is no argument from me there. The past is the past and we all must move on so that is why that I am looking to the present and the future. Once again you'll have been warned !

Well I am putting you and the entire state of Tennessee on notice. We're coming for you and we are going to hit you and whatever team from wherever smack dab in the mouth ! So you can take that very rock that you speak of and stick it up your azz. You have been warned !
