As alumni of pearl cohn..i think this team is much better than last year..they have beaten the teams they were suppose to beat..but i must say i am dissapointed when it comes to big games ie. maplewood, mba..if the firebirds want to beat a tough SC team..they will have to move the ball up the field and play mistake free football..now not to say brunntte teams cant do this..they played teams like this before in the 2006 and 2007 playoff runs..but this is a new team and i think last year was a wake up call for pearl cohn..they wer hit in the mouth and didnt know what happen..they know what to expect from the HOLE the team and the atomsphere..i expect it to be a much better game than last year.. Look for pearl cohn boys to play hard and compete this year. They have a new coach whose is trying to get his new team excited about basketball as well as the community. He has made posters, bought new jerseys home, away,and practice jerseys..but what really has me excited about this new young coach. Is that he is not afraid to schedule the toughest teams in the state..for example they play in the memphis thanksgiving classic, the charles davis classic at belmont, and the ensworth tournment. They may have the toughest schedule in the whole region. but if u talk to coach practrad, he schedule it so tough because 1. he wants his guys to have fun and get excited about the program. the second reason is it will make his team stronger when it comes to district play..He has the school excited, the alumni excited however he does not have the community just yet..in a school that is known for there football and marching band traditions..it is certainly hard for the communtiy to get excited. Pearl Cohn has one of the biggest gyms in the district..but they do not sell out, not since the days of ron slay..even when pearl cohn went on that sub state run in 2007 they did not have one home game even reach the balcony level. Look for that to change in the coming years..and i do not think pearl cohn will finish last in ther district. they will upset some teams along the way..with there up tempo play, scrappy defense, good coaching, and most of all heart! 10 aa predictions 1 cpa 2 maplewood 3 whites creek 4 david libscomb 5 East lit 6 Mlk 7 Pearl Cohn 8 Hfa 9 stratford

I think that this is still a good job for a coach. This is a school and community that is hungry and really wants there basketball program to be good and relevent. This school wants to get back to the days of 96 to 2000 and 2007. Some poeple even thought that the sub state round was a bit of a dissappointment. Nevertheless there was high hopes afta they had made that far, but sad to say it went down hill from there. The problem is the Football and Marching Band is still king of the class programs at Pearl Cohn, if u can get this community excited about basketball as much as they do football it will be a major plus. Now this is no easy job. U will have to rebuild but the adminstration is patient, and the poeple around the program will help including the girls basketball program will help. This is a job somebody can take. One of the biggest task for the next coach will be to fill up that 2500 seat gym, which if done can be one of the toughest places to play in all of nashville and 10aa.

Maplewood will play there game at Whites Creek high school..The school gym is big enough to even host a AAA sub state game. When Maplewood host big games this season they normally have them at their rival foe gym Whites Creek

i do not think the maplewood will sleep walk through this championship game..this is Doc shelton we are talking about. He coaches for these moments remeber in the 2006 championship game Pearl cohn was clearly the betta team but DOC held the ball the entire second quarter..and hit all of their free throws in the fourth. The next year they played CPA and Mlk also won that game..Im not saying MLK will upset this game but it will be a great coaching game to watch. For Maplewood this has been along time coming..For the past four years they have had the most talent in Metro..Talent goes out talent comes in However they have been a disappointment in the past years, but this year team looks good i dont know how far they can go but this will be a team to keep an eye on

This year should be fun to watch..The clear cut favorite is Maplewood, however the first round games will be interesting to watch..I see an upset in the CPA(4) vs Whites Creek(5) game. The cobras are on a hot streak they are playing there best basketball right now..watch out for number 32 kevonte black for the cobras he is a real spark off the bench, but it is CPA and coach maddux will have his team ready. The two teams split there season series. Another game to watch is the David Libscomb vs Hume fogg game. this is a trap game for DL if there not careful..the rest Maplewood vs Pearl Cohn/Stratford East Lit vs MLK

Game will be at Cane ridge on tuesday..should be a good game

The fact that the games are being move to tuesday is not good news for pearl cohn. The freshman team is in the championship game against Hillsoboro at Cane Ridge High School at 5:30 The varsity game is at 6:30 against Hume fogg..It will be tough becuase without the freshman they lack a good bench..it will be interesting to see what happens

Pearl cohn is headed in another direction and thats up... They will win the district this year, if not compete for the top three spots. with a all around team effort. 6 seniors who lead this team and knows how to play, and talented freshmen coming off the bench.. a 6-3 freshman who plays great defense (had 8 rebounds and four blocks in just two quarters of play against Cane ridge last night). the six seniors are all capble of scoring 10 plus points a game.. They have commited to playing hard nose defense this year and will be the best rebounding team in the district just wait and see.. This year firebirds team will win alot of games this and it will be really hard to beat them on there home floor this year unlike years past side note: hume fogg did not look to good in there jamboree against hunters lane

read this article, Coach fitzgered is a great coach, great teacher, and most important his is a great man. He succeed at a school with far less resources than hillsboro (won back to back state tittles) always had his teams in position to make a deep run in the playoffs, and when he left Pearl Cohn. He gave coach brunette a great deal of talent! Plus Hillsboro has more community involvement in there program. He should pick up where he left off. Hillsoboro is already a great team and phyiscal. Coach fitzgered likes a powerful and speedy running game, and a defense that gets mad when they are scored on. Now with all that being said i think he is the only man from metro up for the job! He is a proven coach and a great leader, I got time to know the man while he was at pearl cohn. He will get it done. The question remains does he really want to. and besides it would be nice to see the Pearl Cohn/hillsboro rivalry back up and running although it will be weird for some firebird fans to see there legendary coach on the oppsing sidelines, especially at Pearl Cohn, but nevertheless good luck to both Coach Fitzgered and Hillsboro program

I think next year CPA will have a learning experience, and they will not be the team that everybody wants to beat. I think the cpa fans will like that. The favorite to win the district next year is Maplewood. There will be three new teams entering this district next year. Maplewood, Whites Creek, and Stratford. It should interesting to how the district will play out with three new teams

The person who started this thread is so wrong..This a great coach who demands the best out his players.. I think is to caught up in what everyone else says, and he does not follow his school. Coach Mcgill is the girls head coach who use to coach at pearl High, and is going thru health issues. The lady who is coaching is doing a great job, but she is not the head coach. What some of us fans do not realize is that coaches job is to coach and make good decisions not play the game. He is by not by far the worst coach in metro. Respect your coach, if we have a problem with our coaches go up to him and talk to him in a civil manor, not blasting him on a blog network

To all 9aa fans. last year was not the first time the championship game had stalled ball. In 2006 Pearl Cohn vs MLK (the biggest rival at the time), was effected by stall ball. Mid way thru the second quarter MLK held the ball all the way down to about nine seconds to take a one point lead only for Pearl Cohn to hit a last second shot. For a half time lead. The Royals went on to win the district tournment. Doc shelton was praise for his stall ball approach during the game. Therefore the game tomorraw with CPA/DL. Enjoy it, support your school wheather it is up and down game, or a slow pace game. Because its about the players and what it takes to win, not what the fans want. Goodluck to both teams.

QUICK QUESTION..Pearl Cohn has the biggest gym in the district, and parking everywhere. Why isnt the district tourney not being held at the "NEST"

the district to watch out for is where Pearl Cohn who had only 8 seniors on there team last year. CPA, and East Lit. Goodpasture will have a tough time moving out from the middle tenn. region

I think since the 2007 season. Talent has not been coming out of 9aa.. If you look at the 2007 season you had Pearl Cohn loaded with talent since Ron slay played. Then you had MLK they were a good team and Gerald Rob. CPA was up and coming. and many more. Since that season the district has not been fun to watch. The talent overall is not there anymore, and instead of a five team race like 2007, It is really a one team race

there are succesfull black coaches in tn. Coach fitezegerd from pearl cohn won back to back state tittles in 4a in the late 90s(the last team to beat Maryville in the stat title game. He teams has also led his the playoffs almost every year. His succesor Coach Brunnetti in his first two years led them to the semifinals the past two years. Maplewood coach took his team the state title game last year, and has build there program from the bottom of 4a to competing every week. These two schools and three coaches have something in common. They both coach at a poorly funded school, and has put there programs on the map. Not alot of coaches in better enviroments can do what they did. If they can coach and bring proud history to those schools and communities, they can do it anywhere

Covering the Nashville area, i got the chance to see Pearl Cohn vs Fulton the past two years. The first time they met both teams were evenly match, but Dennis rogan was indeed the x factor. last year fulton just zero on rushing Pearl Cohn qb deaunte Mason and crushed the firebirds. I got the oppurnity to see both White House and Knox Cath. Both teams are well coach, but the difference is Knox cath has the speed, and i dont think there WH defense can keep up. The white house fans know that they have a great team, but this is a different type of speed and coaching, just ask coach brunnetti and his former players of pearl cohn. KC 24 WH 7

This does really not many anything. Last year Pearl Cohn walk into Howard as a underdog, and the howard fans was talking so much trash on this board. Pearl Cohn left Chatt-town with a 26 to 0 win. They were more phyiscal and just as fast. Pearl Cohn left out with more class than Howard did. Yes i said it Pearl Cohn had more class than the other team region 4 fans!!! But this is a new year Howard is alot a better, they learned from that beat down they took against last year last year semifinals. They will be ready to play. If sycamore pulls the upset, they might want to head to there cars really fast, because they do not know how to act when they lose. The field is huge but it is nice. Sycamore is does not really show that much emotion. They had a good season but i do not think they will win. Howard will come out with a win this year, but the road will get alot tougher next week with Station camp coming to town Howard 24 Sycamore 13

Yeah you are right, but you cant say Station Camp gave it to them because they lost the game. Yes Station Camp won the region title, but it doesnt matter come playoff time. Pearl Cohn won the game 13 to 7. So get over it. Yes Pearl Cohn and White House has been the cream of 4-3a almost every year. When you lose about 25 seniors every year for the past three years. Its not going to be an easy road for the firebirds this year. They are improving every week. The defense has only gave up 13 points in region play this year. If they get there offense going. The firebirds can become a dark horse in this region. and upset thier rivals
