  1. Check the UT softball web site for dates to be sure but I know Karen Weekly will be having her "speed camp" (short game/base running/stealing) this fall and I think they are having a pitching camp too....
  2. Two Loudon High seniors signed college scholarships this year. Erikka Hardy, CF/2B, signed a full scholarship with Winston-Salem State in N. Carolina. Tara Crass, P/3B, signed a full scholarship with Snead State CC in Alabama.

Participating in any softball activity during a dead period will get you in trouble, that is for sure. I know Mike pretty well and I believe he wouldn't do anything he knew to be a voilation, but there is a big dead period during June and July (for not apparent reason) that you have to work around. If he was playing in a tournament in Crossville, he isn't the only one that has a problem. Like you, I hope it isn't true.
  4. I'm proud to say that my ace pitcher, Tara Crass, signed with Snead State...I look forward to her having a great two years down there. Those of you that have seen Tara pitch and hit realize what a jewel they got!

Why would "Spanky" be in trouble for that? Many high school head coaches coach summer ball...there are leagues for summer ball in several cities. As far as I know there is no rule against it.

    50% Rule

I am not aware of a specific date (and I'm too lazy to look for one right now) but it is generally held that when school starts the rule (5 player limit) is in effect.
  7. I've got to add the name of my senior pitcher/3rd baseman/catcher and all aroound great athlete...Tara Crass...wrapping up her softballl career this season and headed to MTSU to get her nursing degree.
  8. It seems I misunderstood your original statement. Given that a softball program exists I am afraid the quality issue is not something Title IX addresses directly, assuming facilities and funding are comperable. You might want to be sure that these two things are equal, and if they are then it is a matter of finding a coach that is; (a) a good quality coach (using whose criteria?), and (/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> interested in a whole lot of work for not much material benefit. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Good luck!
  9. The answer to the core of your question is pretty strait forward....girls must be provided with equal opportunities to compete in a comperable number of sports. In other words, if there are 100 "positions" availabe on boys sports teams then there should be roughly 100 "positions" available for girls to compete in organized sports. The compostion of sports will be different as girls do not play football, so other sports like vollyball or soccer should be establish to insure an equal opportunity to compete in sports is available to all students, regardless of gender. In a situation where a baseball team exists but there is no softball program (a classic comparison) the school must do whatever is necessary to provide an opportunity for girls to play softball. This situation is very likely a violation of Title IX, and in my opinion should be taken to the school district's Title IX Compliance Officer (federal law requires they have one and that they perform an annual survey and report any deficiencies to the school board) for resolution. If they fail to resolve the issue to your satisfaction, get in touch with the Office of Civil Rights, U S Department of Education in Atlanta.
  10. I'm an English teacher, too...occupational hazard....fighting the good fight to preserve good grammar around the world! *tongue firmly in cheek* /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  11. There are three teams that are clearly the best of the bunch in 4AA...Loudon, Stone Memorial, and Kingston. Who do you think will take it all and make it to regionals?
  12. Learn to spell worst....please..... /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  13. I had one team drop out this week, so I need another team to keep our 12 team brackets in tact if possible. Anybody interesting in getting in the pool? Let me know ASAP. Coach Strange
  14. Loudon and Coalfield had a long scrimmage Thursday night...with Lyndsey Fednyk (SP?) going against our senior starter Tara Crass for four innings. Loudon got the better of the scrappy Coalfield squad 3-1 in that session, and we continued on for another 4 or 5 innings with our fresman pictcher, Emily Franks going against Coalfield's #2 pitcher with Loudon again holding off Coalfield 5 to 4 (I believe it was). The second session was pretty much JV vs JV with everybody batting and playing on defense. Jennifer has her girls ready to do great things this year and Lyndsey is a very talented pitcher...one to watch for sure. We always enjoy playing Coalfield and wish them all the best this season. Coach Strange
  15. I am in total agreement...it would solve so many problems...and in the case of my school, moving (our planned) vollyball season to the spring would ease pressure on the gym from competing basketball teams and vollyball each trying to get practice time. It just makes sense...so how do we put pressure on TSSAA to make the move? As long as the move doesn't impact football I can't imagine they would really care....
