  1. Shhhhh whiskeyjoe, don't challenge the public school bias out there /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  2. Currently dropped from the rankings due to the fact I do not know where to rank him. He sat out of the Black Horse but he is expected back in the line-up soon and once starting on a regular basis he will be placed appropriately. From a DII perspective I am going to try and keep kids ranked at the weight they are currently wrestling at. Once moves up or down happen they will be changed and their body of work at the previous weight class taken into account when ranked. When Francis returns (I might expect next week) then he will likely be sitting at or near the top. I debated on whether to remove him or not but did so for consistencies sake with other weights. I believe I had him at #2 at 125 based on past accomplishments and the fact that Mark Simpson appears to be a good sized 119 without the opportunity to go 112, moving Francis to 125 for MBA's likely best line-up (note I am not saying Simpson beats Francis for the spot at 119 if Francis wanted it as I expect Francis wants 125 anyway, just think it makes more sense for MBA as well). From a rankings perspective MBA and FR are difficult to rank individually right now. MBA ran a lot of kids that most wouldn't project as starters at the Black Horse (contributing to their lower than expected finish), as did Ensworth (no Deloache, Thompson Grant, etc.). Father Ryan appears to have walked out a lot of JV against Blackman as well and I have not seen individual results of their matches in IN to know where some of their kids are at. The article in the Tennessean helps with where to expect kids to end up. I just received the Blackman dual results today with Father Ryan's line-up so they could not be reflected in this week's rankings but will show in next weeks. An example would be John Maurizi likely fills in a spot at 103. Examples of kids that did not compete for FR against Blackman are: Anthony Simpson, Kevin Mix and Zach Hermann. Ok so that was probably a longer answer than needed but what can I say, I like to talk wrestling? /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" /> /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
  3. MatMan's rankings have been updated over at http://www.tennwrestling.com. Follow the link and click on rankings at the top to check them out. Both DI and DII have been updated.
  4. If I am not mistaken his older brother Michael has signed with Boise State. I think he was out on his mission after graduating. Garrett
  5. I assume you are referring to me with my former name so I will answer. I did. I was on the wrestling team from 1998-2001. I was also on the coaching staff from 2002 until this year. To follow-up a little more with some DII state tournament results: 1998 - Clint Palmer (SBA) 5th place @ 152 1999 - Clint Palmer (SBA) 6th place @ 152 2000 - Danny Koban (SBA) 4th place @ 135 Those three are just examples from the time I was there and is really as far back as the TSSAA website will let you go. I know they had state qualifiers going back before the split (as evidenced by Ronnie Bray earlier) and may have had a medalist or two. While I was there I always wanted a chance to go back and dig through to find out. I guess according to the article those medals don't exist...
  6. My fault M.U. Chang. I missed that on my copy and paste. Much appreciated.
  7. RANK - SCHOOL - POWER RANKING - STANDING LAST WEEK 1 - FATHER RYAN - 93 - 1 2 - BAYLOR - 91 - 4 3 - BRADLEY CENTRAL - 90 - 2 4 - OOLTEWAH - 75 - 5 5 - SODDY DAISY - 66 - 3 6 - CHRISTIAN BROTHERS - 50 - 11 7 - CLARKSVILLE - 42 - 8 8 - NOTRE DAME - 30 - 12 9 - FRANKLIN - 26 - 7 10 - MONTGOMERY BELL ACADEMY - 22 - 6 11 - MCCALLIE - 12 - 10 12 - BRENTWOOD ACADEMY - 11 - 9 As a side note the poll linked in the Chattanoogan article is incorrect. Here is the correct poll. Once the rankings are updated at the TWF site (should be done tonight) the poll will always be included with that week's rankings.
  8. The poll linked in the Chattanoogan article is the previous week's poll. The updated poll is below. RANK - SCHOOL - POWER RANKING - STANDING LAST WEEK 1 - FATHER RYAN - 93 - 1 2 - BAYLOR - 91 - 4 3 - BRADLEY CENTRAL - 90 - 2 4 - OOLTEWAH - 75 - 5 5 - SODDY DAISY - 66 - 3 6 - CHRISTIAN BROTHERS - 50 - 11 7 - CLARKSVILLE - 42 - 8 8 - NOTRE DAME - 30 - 12 9 - FRANKLIN - 26 - 7 10 - MONTGOMERY BELL ACADEMY - 22 - 6 11 - MCCALLIE - 12 - 10 12 - BRENTWOOD ACADEMY - 11 - 9
  9. I can think of at least 4 major tournaments that occurred in our state over the weekend. 1) Knox Catholic 2) Ooltewah 3) Harpeth 4) Black Horse Now out of those 4 tournaments I have only seen links to one of the bracekts posted (Black Horse). I believe we have at least seen the medal match results from Knox Catholic. So where are the other results? I know that the rankers would love to have the brackets, but at least at a minimum we need to find the results from the medal matches. This was a big weekend in TN as most teams had their first full tournament competitions and there is a lot of work for everyone to do as a result. However, it is going to be hard to grow the fans of the sport if we can't get the results out there for review. This is where the rest of the fans come in. Hopefully the local papers at least ran results from the medal matches for each tournament. Who can provide links to those? What about articles talking about the tournament? So I am not just getting on here and asking for things without contributing below is an article from The Commercial Appeal about the Black Horse finals as well as a link to Houston wrestling site where the full brackets can be found: http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2007/...team-dominates/ http://www.houstonwrestling.org/ Now who else can help?
  10. BB, Both Aguilar and Garrett have foudn their way into tough brackets. Should be interesting. I remember Boyd, tough kid. Sadly I don't know anything about where he is now. And that great story is an excellent illustration of why Bradley Central is such a great program. You guys really get the atmosphere and brotherhood of the sport when the rivalries and the competition is set aside. Love that about yall. If we end up the same place one weekend (probably not until State Duals or Individuals) look me up, love to chat.
  11. Hopefully we can surprise you this year then. I think we are likely missing some of the star power that we had (although I still see several potential finalists) but I think the team may be much deeper than it was in the past. Agreed on East Lit, solid team up and down. MUS lost a lot so you may see a slide there, SBA didn't lose much and has a strong core group of juniors and seniors now and is improving so they may climb. Of course every team always feels they are better so we shall see.
  12. I know CBHS will be there.
  13. Good question there Sprawlz... unless Coach Delgado needs a hand running something with the tournament and wants to let me in as a worker I suppose I will need that answer as well /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  14. If anyone happens to see them out there can they link the paper with the match results?
  15. CoachDelgado, Can you tell me what time wrestling is expected to start on Friday? I want to be sure I get out of work in plenty of time to get there and read through the brackets...
  16. Hmmm, Looks like it is going to be an interesting tournament again this year. I see a new addition in Hixson there if I am not mistaken. Should be interesting to see what they bring. Anybody have a clue what Brother Martin and Grissom look like this year? Grissom appeared a little down last year and I remember hearing the BM lost a coach (probably wouldn't see the effects from that just yet). Last year the top 10 looked like: 1st Brother Martin, LA - 252 2nd MBA - 217 3rd CBHS - 212 4th Grissom - 164 5th MUS - 131 6th Houston - 124.5 7th East Literature Magnet - 110.5 8th St. Benedict - 98 9th Bartlett - 97 10th Collierville - 95 We can all see the gap between 1st and 2nd/3rd and 3rd to 4th and on down the line. Can anyone else break into the plaques this year or will it look about the same? Brother Martin has won the tournament every year since 1999 except for 2004 when Grissom picked it up (in Brother Martin's absence). MBA started coming in 2005 and has finished in 2nd both years. Can they push passed Brother Martin this year? Can CBHS finally break through and win it after not picking up a title since the tournaments inaugural year (1995)? With finishes of 3rd in 06, 4th in 05, and 2nd in 04 they have been on the bubble for a while. Grissom has finished 4th-06, 3rd-05, 1st-04, 2nd-03, 2nd-02, 2nd-01. Can they push back to the top or do the continue the downward slide of the last two years? Who else can make a push towards the top? The seeding meeting is coming up soon I am sure. Maybe we can get a pre-release of the seeds to see who is lining up at what weights...
  17. Walkenvol, Definitely spoken as a man who understands the rankings. Luckily this poll tends to update very well and sorts itself out for the most part through the course of a season. There is typically enough interaction between the top teams that it isn't too difficult to see who fits in about where. You can always argue over spots that seem to be right next to one another but the general teirs fit in nicely. The only problem is that it is supposed to reflect dual meet strength and some of the teams never meet in any format other than an individual tournament and we all know how often times that takes two different types of teams. Baylor certainly has a strong young group coming up this year and I know many are anxious to see them make there mark. We will see how the season shapes up.
  18. Thanks for checking that for me. Hoping to catch up with you soon.
  19. Not sure I can go back that far but I can assure you that the rule was in place last year and I am fairly certain it has been for at least 4-5.
  20. I don't know if the power has totally shifted but I think there might be a little more parity in the region. Matthew I believe is 10. I know he practices with the 3-5 grade group we have. The more important and scary question is how big Matthew is! Looking at him now I can see him being larger than Michael... I believe Tom would tell you the same. He definitely has the Marable genes.
  21. Nick is starting at Mizzou @ 165 pounds. I believe prior to this weekends tournament he was ranked somewhere around #12 nationally and that was before he pinned the #8 ranked wrestler in the finals. DD is wrestling for Harper in Chicago. Starting out the junior college route and will see what happens. I believe Chris Reynolds was also going to attend there but not sure if he is competing yet. I haven't checked hard enough to really know.
  22. I am going to respond even if you are trolling /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />. To be honest I doubt that anyone out there would call me humble. However, I pride myself on being pretty realistic and that is what my statements stem from. As far as Tom Marable goes he deserves a lot of credit for getting things started. I just hope that we can continue to build on the foundation he laid. Not to mention that Tom is still going to be around the program some as his youngest gets on the mat more and more.
  23. Hey Hamm, I noticed last night and didn't e-mail but Blake Ridenour is ranked at 130 and 140. It was late when I got it posted last night so I knew I wouldn't get a response then.
  24. MatMan's rankings for Week 2 have now been posted at www.tennwrestling.com. Just click on the rankings tab at the top of the page. Be sure to register for the forum while you are there and leave us your comments. Not sure what the number of submitted rosters for DI looks like but I know we have only ben e-mailed 1 roster for DII, the others have been pieced together as best as possible. Get those line-ups in to: MatMan for DI & Garrett House for DII
  25. Agreed on Robles. Notice I made no NCAA AA predictions for him because I am of the same opinion you are. He will beat a lot of people the first time or two they wrestle. Once good wrestlers understand his style a game plan will developed to handle it and shut him down (if not I would have to question the coaching). There have been a lot of wrestlers like him over time and most get figured out, but hey you never know when someone will really run with it and surprise us all. I did not notice that Seth Garvin (just messing with you BB) won the OW, however it is definitely no surprise. Very strong wrestler. Fun to watch as well. If I was a good wrestler particularly one who wasn't getting the looks he wanted from some of the traditional powers I would not hesitate to take a long, hard look at Appy State. Another fav along the same boat for me is Northern Iowa, just like what the program does with their kids. Programs like those don't get the proper respect a lot of times. How are things in Bear Country anyway?
