  3. Kingsport Times-News has the score printed today as 66-56.
  4. Stokomo, I called it an upset based on conference records going into the game; Cocke Co. at 5-2 and Cherokee at 3-4, plus Cocke Co. a few games over .500 and Cherokee a few games below .500. I admit, on the radar this is a moderate upset, but in the District 2 hierarchy it appears to be bigger. In Cherokee's defense, their out of conference schedule is much more difficult than Cocke Co.'s, but I partially can write that off based on the location of each school, and the fact we can better understand, in our minds, the results from a game against our Big 9 schools, as opposed to more 'unknown to us' schools such as Pigeon Forge and Grainger. Congratulations to Cherokee, however, on a 2-1 week. They gave my Indians all they wanted in a loss, beat a solid Cocke Co. club, and defeated county rival Volunteer by 17 in the Falcons Nest. It seems the Chiefs are peaking at the right time.
  5. Opinions, thoughts, information, and comments are desired here. This thread is more than a poll. Take a moment to offer your own two cents, I am looking to only be a facilitator.
  6. Any comments on the double overtime thriller in Jonesborough last night, Sullivan East over David Crockett? unc1? DavidCrockettFan?
  7. Anyone have comments on last nights upset, Cherokee over Cocke Co?

  9. I'm not sure if the District Tournament will be held at Sullivan Central. It would not surprise me, it has been held at Sullivan East and Sullivan South in years past. I guess its part of the rotation the Big 9 seems to use in baseball. Unfortunately there will be no where to sit. I did the math and DB will have 14 home games, and 9 away games, for a total of 23 games, not counting tournaments. Our farthest away game is @ Unicoi County. Your right, not a bad schedule at all. Should we expect a second or third place finish?
  10. Couldn't help yourself could you Volman? My apologies, by the way, for not being forthright with the scores and updates over the past few days, I've been holed up at the house with strep throat. Working at an incubator, aka a school, has its downsides.
  11. Plowboy, do you know who the Indians will be playing out of conference this year? Tournaments?
  12. I have bad news ladies and gentlemen. A friend of mine who was at Kingsport City Schools Central Office, also a friend of Coach Watson, observed him filling out retirement papers this afternoon. It is unsure if he will be coaching this coming season, but he will retire from coaching no later than the 2010 season.

Championship game qualifiers will automatically qualify for the Sectional Tournament in Pigeon Forge. Winner of the Consolation game will also qualify for Sectional Tournament in Pigeon Forge. Losers in the Play-In and Consolation games seasons are over. Sectional Tournament to be held in Pigeon Forge at Pigeon Forge Middle School, February 7-14.
  14. From tricitiessports.com: Science Hill Boys, Girls Win Middle 8 Tournament Titles By Ron Bliss TriCitiesSports.com January 29, 2009 KINGSPORT -- The Science Hill boys kept alive their hopes of a three-peat in the Sectional Middle School basketball tournament by fending off T.A. Dugger of Elizabethton, 45-32, at John Sevier Middle School on Thursday. The Science Hill girls also claimed their Middle School tournament title by beating defending champion Unicoi County, 58-48. Both teams also won regular-season titles and picked up trophies for that, as well as their tournament titles, Thursday. C.J. Good led the Science Hill boys (22-0) and earned tournament MVP honors, while Shy Copney led the girls and picked up MVP honors. Good had 12 points on Thursday to tie Shannon Hale for high-point honors. Will Adams added 10. Zach Norwood had 10 for T.A. Dugger, now 15-8. "That's the closest anyone has come to us all season,'' said Science Hill eighth-grade coach Andy Bennett. "We had been winning by an average of 30-32 points. They played that matchup zone in the first half and we weren't making our shots, but we finally got going. They are as big a team as we've played.'' TAD's two inside players, Nikolai Simpson and Kaleb Walters each made the all-tournament team and scored 6 and 5 points, respectively. In addition to Good, Reed Hayes and Shannon Hale were named to the all-tournament boys' team from Science Hill. Science Hill will be looking for a three-peat in the Sectional Tournament when action begins in the Area Tournament on Friday. "We beat Robertsville out of Oak Ridge last year to win the title and they were almost all seventh graders,'' said Bennett. "I have been keeping up with them and they are unbeaten, too.'' T.A. Dugger coach Marty Story says Simpson has a chance to be a really good player. "He was playing football, but now he is just concentrating on basketball,'' said Story. "I think he has a chance to be 6-8 or 6-9.'' Simpson had scored 19 in the semifinal game and moves well for a big man.
  15. Right you are Waco. Let's hope to be suprised.
  16. You definatley hold a wealth of information concerning District 2. I appreciate your help, as finding scores and other information from new sources in and around the towns involved in District 2 is very difficult at times for someone based in Kingsport. Keep up the good work.
  17. I'll bet on them making it out of the district tournament, making it out of the regional tournament is another story. I think it comes down, partially, to where they are seeded in both the district and regional tournaments. As long as they are atleast a #2 seed in both, I see them avoiding Science Hill until both championship games, especially in the district tournament. In the regional, as a #2 seed, they would most likely play Greeneville and Morristown East, two games I think they can win in succession. As Cap has said before, it comes down to match ups. I think the Indians match up well with all schools in Region 1 except Science Hill, because the 'Toppers create chaos on the floor, taking the Tribe out of its game. It'll be interesting to see, IF they get out of the first round of the district tournament, how home court advantage plays a role in their performance, with both tournaments being played at Buck Van Huss in Kingsport.
  18. Colonial Heights was the #3 seed in the Middle 8 Conference Tournament. Combined with other Area 1 Large Division teams, after first round tournament eliminations, they are the overall #5 seed based on overall record. Sullivan North, I believe, is included in the Large Division because they are part of the high school. It's reported there are around 200 students in the 8th grade at Sullivan North, so as you can see they are at an obvious disadvantage. Mary Hughes does seem to have a good team this year, they won both the regular season conference and conference tournament titles. I believe the Area 1 Small Division Tournament will be held at Sullivan Middle School in Sullivan Gardens this weekend, but information for it is hard to fine. Mary Hughes will play on Friday, but I am unsure of the opponent. I am unsure of what number the TMSAA uses to draw the line between Large and Small Division schools. Below I have provided links to both the East Tennessee TMSAA Members list of schools, and also a link to the Area 1 Large Division Tournament information. East Tennessee TMSAA Members East Tennessee TMSAA Area 1 Boys Basketball Tournament Thanks for the compliments. It's seems to have turned into my hobby. Some call it odd, but I think it beats the alternative. I've thought about trying to pursue sports writing, but don't really have the 'in' factor needed to get an opportunity. Thanks again.
  19. From what I understood from the radio broadcast, Dobyns Bennett played flat most of the game, scoring in spurts. It helped Cherokee didn't want to play defense, but it also seemed we played lackadaisical on defense, sending Cherokee to the charity stripe a significant amount of times. I honestly wouldn??™t take too much from it. The Indians had the game well in hand for most of the game. I think in the kids minds it came down to, ??

  21. True, the Lady Indians do have a penchant for underachieving against lesser opponents. It'll be interesting to see which team shows up to play a hot Lady Vikings club in Bristol on Friday night.
