  1. Thanks, Michael! It has been very rewarding for me to watch you grow as a bowler, but more importantly, a young man. You have set a good example for the returning members of our team. We'll be back!
  2. Congratulations to the Hixson and Soddy Daisy girls teams for representing the Region 3 and 4 areas well at the state. I thought Hixson would win the title going away. I have experienced losing to these fine young ladies from the two schools as a coach for the past 4 years in either state or sectional matches and have never seen any unsportsmanlike conduct from the coaches, players, or fans. Sure the fans are loud, but that just adds to the excitement of the event. We have seen a few times that teams have started cheers when our boys were on the approach and the opponents were not, but i don't even think that was intentional. Some of the other coaches and fans thought so, but we have taught our kids to just hear everything as encouragement. If the other team is making the noise, the best way to quiet them down is to throw more strikes than they do. Every coach should teach sportsmanship and respect but unfortunately, not all do it. Any youngster that bowls for us is taught that before we teach them any technique. Thanks to all parents who support their kids and schools! Our coaching staff is all volunteer and we appreciate the parents efforts to support their children and try to tell them so regularly. See everybody next year! Mike Ransom Columbia Central HS

CATBACK IS THAT TRUE?? OH YOU R SHORT TOO You win moron of the year!! Michael and the rest of the TSSAA Boys Division I State Champions want to thank you for giving us extra motivation to win our title today. Now if you have any class at all you will use this site to apologize to Michael and Catbackr, because everyone who saw it agreed that you stepped way over the line. I want to thank all of you who chimed in, in support of Michael. He is that hardest working bowler around. He has dealt with people like this idiot before who want to pick on him. He just beats people on the lanes and some that can't carry his bowling balls try to take him down, as cowards on an anonymous website. It didn't, and never will work, because Michael is a fine young man and I am proud I have been associated with him and saw him do something that may never happen again, over the last three days. Congratulations to Tennessee's Mr. Bowling, TSSAA Singles Division I Boys Champion and TSSAA Team Champion member, Michael Poirier!!! Dream on, PBAchump! Congratulations and thank you to every member of our team! It has been a great ride this season! Also, thank you to all of the teams we encountered this season in all of the competition. We have nothing but respect for the players and coaches that we won and lost to in our boys and girls' matches. Congrats to Hendersonville girls, too. They did something that I thought would never happen and that is beat Hixson's girls. I predicted Hixson would win after they dismantled our girls in December. See all of you next season!!
  4. I think the singles tournament determination should be adjusted. I agree each district should be represented, but it should be the top 2 from each district, boy & girl. Then fill the field with the highest remaining bowlers regardless of district alignment. We had a young man who was a 210 average bowler, who was left out because he was 5th highest average in the strongest district in the state, while a young man with a 146 avg got in. That same bowler shot 723 in our first team match today and was our top bowler. It is a seriously flawed system in place now. The argument about easy and hard lanes doesn't hold water when we are talking about a kid with a 210 vs 146, so forget about that equation. It is only the second year, but it needs adjusting immediately!
  5. Columbia Central defeated a tough Walker Valley team 16.5 to 10.5 and 3754 to 3686. Central was led by Michael Poirier with a 732 and Jake Flatt - 686 and Travis Howell - 684. Walker Valley was led by Jonathan Hancock with a 675 and Jordan Rummel - 625 and Matt Wagner - 621 and Matthew Lee - 620 and Cameron Szpur - 608. Soddy Daisy defeated Smyrna @ Hixson by similar score. Good Luck to all in State!!!
  6. And math because his 185 turned into 213 or some other imaginary figure. All of you that post here are trained about how to use a computer at some point or you would not be on the 'net. So before you post it, type your message into "Word" or some other program first then hit "Spelling and grammar" so the people that did pay attention in school can actually read and understand what you are trying to tell us. After you have corrected it copy and paste on this site for us. Thanks from the old folks! Your desire to know about easy and difficult houses is this. Houses known for difficult conditions is a misnomer. The centers known as difficult usually have poor conditioning schedules or they are trying to save money by not oiling except when necessary. Ebonite's Galaxy Lanes is "easy" because we keep things up and have one of the most knowledgeable people in America on our staff, Norm Titus, and a mechanic who takes pride in the condition of the center, Jason Dickey. We put a sport condition down several times a week for the Martin Methodist College practice sessions. If you desire to practice on this, we have a special 2 hour rate for that. Call for more info. Good Luck to all teams and individuals @ Smyrna this week!!
  7. Thanks for your comments, Stephen. You're showing some maturity. Never fall into the envy trap by disrespecting someone's accomplishments. Michael has grown as a person and bowler and I am proud to say that I have been around to see both. He has been the target of other youngster's jealous attempt to intimidate him or belittle him, but he handles it with class. He just goes out and knocks down more pins than other people. He's confident and some people try to turn that into a negative thing by calling it cocky. Confidence is earned and Michael earned that by averaging 15 pins more than his nearest competitor. Michael shot 700 as a freshman in the state team finals against Smyrna in 2005. He lives to bowl! Others say they do, but Michael walks the walk and truly Talks The Talk! Good Luck, Stephen!
  8. Soddy Daisy girls defeated Columbia central today 20.5 - 6.5. The match was close the first game 1114 - 1107 and 5-3, but Soddy Daisy pulled away in the second game and won going away 3444 - 3127. We are proud of our girls - they put a good fight, but Soddy has a very good team! Good luck girls! We have 5 seniors on this team and two of them bowl in the State singles this week. Good luck Becca and Brandi and Chelsea (sophomore)!!
  9. The TSSAA Region 4 Champions are Columbia Central's boys and girls! The boys defeated Smyrna 3889-3642 and 18-9 and the girls defeated Spring Hill 3047-2971 and 17-10. The sectional girls match will be Saturday in Columbia at Ebonite Galaxy Lanes at 1 p.m. (Central Time) weather permitting and the boys match will be Monday at 1 p.m. CT also at Galaxy. Their opponents will be Soddy Daisy in the girls match for the third straight year and Walker Valley in the boys match for the second consecutive year. Good luck to all!!
  10. It is Thursday, January 24, 2008, at 6 p.m. at the Smyrna Town Center. All bowlers, coaches, and other interested parties are invited.
  11. I am proud of Michael, as well as every athlete on both of our teams. He practices EVERY day and is anxious to learn from every experience. He will succeed in life after bowling because he has an energy about him that breeds success. We stress sportsmanship to our teams. They will never disrespect other bowlers or their school. We had a post by a CCHS bowler last year that was an embarrassment to us all. He is no longer a part of our team. No one wants to win more than our team, but we will win or lose with class. I still feel we had the best team last year, but were defeated by Hardin County. We were left with the distinction of being the only team in the state to defeat both teams in the eventual finals. Our kids were broken hearted but they lost with their pride intact. This years group is bowling for that team as a form of redemption. Thanks for your posts this year catsbackr!
  12. Stephen, you need to work on spelling and grammar before you worry about bowling, judging from your post. Michael has been bowling for the last 8 years as diligently as any youngster that I have had the pleasure of coaching or associating with in a center. I have been coaching youth bowling since 1978, long before most of you were born, much less bowling. So don't disrespect Michael because he has surpassed what any other high school bowler has accomplished in Tennessee's 7 year history of high school bowling. Incidently, Michael rolled a 299 game in Lewisburg during our match with Marshall County and had a 300 game and 834 series against Smyrna this season. How many 800 series have you rolled this season? And your 701 at Galaxy is below Michael's average for the season which consists of bowling in 5 different centers. He also finished in the top 30% of the kids nationwide at Junior Gold last year. How about you? We will see where you finish in the Singles Tournament before we give you the respect you fail to give him.

    District 6

If a bracket is structured properly in a 7 team bracket, Team 2 faces 7, 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5. The No. 1 team receives a bye and faces the winner of the 4 vs 5 match. The other two winners face each other. The District director probably has discretion on how they line up, but the coaches should have made an inquiry before the competition started.
  14. Michael Poirier - Columbia Central in boys
  15. The top 4 Boys and Top 4 Girls from District 8 are: GIRLS Courtney Barker Columbia Academy 182.7 for 24 out of 30 games Chelsea Barton Columbia Central 182.1 for 43 out of 48 games Brandi Hansen Columbia Central 181.6 for 43 out of 48 games Becca Lyle Columbia Central 181.4 for 45 out of 48 games BOYS Michael Poirier Columbia Central 236.1 for 44 out of 48 games Joe Lundie Spring Hill HS 218.9 for 31 out of 36 games Aaron Davidson Columbia Central 218.7 for 41 out of 48 games Travis Howell Columbia Central 214.8 for 42 out of 48 games
  16. There is no easy answer to the system in place. Yes, we have a young man who averaged 210 for the season, bowling in 6 different bowling centers, that won't make the singles tournament. He is a senior so he won't make the tournament NEXT year. An average of 198 got in last year. It took 214 this year to make the top 4. So the system isn't "fair" to this young man. Life isn't fair so you live with it. A district or regional system would just leave someone else out. We toughened up our house shot last year and 2 weeks into the season we had bowlers who were averaging 190 the previous season screaming because they were averaging 160 (Their true ability) and threatening to quit. we went back to the pattern from the previous year January 1 to appease them. The only people who should complain about today's score were bowling in 1975. Before anybody learned how to block lanes. If you bowled an honor score after that it should have a Barry Bonds Asterisk by your name. Our game is what it is, so enjoy your success. It is a competition on like conditions to see who can bowl the best. Comparing yesterday's scores and bowlers to todays players is impossible due to equipment and conditions. Even the pros are not bowling on the same condition on TV that they qualify on if scores were low for the week. they ease up the shot so the TV show produces heroes. Good Luck to all in the singles and team state tournaments!
  17. Post your results of the district winners - teams and singles. Also region results as they happen. Good luck everybody!
  18. When your regular season ends, post your qualifiers. We have two weeks left before our tournament in Region 4 - District 8. So far it is as follows: BOYS GIRLS Michael Poirier 237 CC Brandi Hansen 181 CC Joe Lundie 220 SH Becca Lyle 177 CC Aaron Davidson 216 CC Chelsea Barton 176 CC Travis Howell 215 CC Chelsey Fagan 174 MC
  19. The 5 on 5 matchup was 3208 for Central and 2981 for Soddy Daisy. The points were 18.5 to 8.5
  20. Charge a higher admisssion fee to cover the bleacher cost and try it for a season. I've heard it from a ton of different schools that want it. Assign the front row to the teams as their bench and only allow players in the lineups in the bowler's area. It will make a better experience for everyone and a manageable one for coaches. You folks do a great job at SBC and TSSAA and the only complaint I've ever heard is the bleacher idea. Hope to be there! Mike
  21. Congratulations to the Hixson girls! They went undefeated today as did the Columbia Central boys. I don't think anybody will challenge these girls this season. They are a very talented and gracious group of young ladies! They totally dominated our girls and the Central girls were rooting for Kayla to shoot 300 against them as much as her teammates. Best of luck to them. Somebody call TSSAA to get the plaque engraved. Also, sorry about not posting the matchups. I had a death in my family and had to leave town Friday a.m. Your sarcasm did not go unnoticed.
  22. We were trying to get all six teams on the lanes at the same time and thus the new format. I think we'll opt for just four teams next season and start at 10 am Columbia time. Sorry for the misunderstanding and I think everyone still had a great time. See all of you at state!!
