  1. Correction..........that was an interception by Matt Pritchard! Gotta give my son props on that one! LOL. Had he not been knocked out of bounds by one of his own lineman he woulda scored.
  2. Bland said Harris had some tingling in his fingers but was able to move all limbs. Probably a pinched nerve from what I'm hearing. Most of his emergency care was precautionary & I'm glad to see that. It's always good to see both coaching staffs, both team physicians & trainers rendering aid. As a parent I sympathized with the Harris family as my son got a concussion from a blind side hit & knocked completely out one night. It's a horrible feeling to see your child hurt & a helpless feeling to boot. Hope Bledsoe is alright. Saw the leg brace on him & headed to the ER. He looked to be in alot of pain. Hope he is alright. He's a player! Humboldt stacked the box & kept Gilbert in check but Milan has other weapons. Humboldt's secondary is young this year. I think Humboldt will improve but they're still learning a new system so they should make the most gains next year. I'm hearing Humboldt will drop to 1A next year!
  3. I thought the Milan fans showed ALOT of class when they gave injured #24 Bryan Harris from Humboldt 2 standing ovations when he was carried off the field. Once when they started rolling him off the field & another when he raised his hand to signal he was okay. Props to the Milan fans as I was sitting with friends on the Milan side during the second half. Milan is beatable! Any team is beatable! Not discounting Milan at all so don't take it that way. Take away the 3 fumbles & it's probably a closer game. No one knows for sure as that's all speculation but it seemed to me that both teams got after each other. That's what happens in a rivalry. As for the ugly aspect, I'd take any ugly win over a pretty loss any day. Milan found a way to win the game & they took it to the woodshed. Congrats! You can't have turnovers like that against a good team like Milan. It's hard enough to beat Milan w/o making it harder. Alot of Milan fans figured the dawgs would win by 40 points with Gilbert scoring 4 TD's so what do we know. That's what happens in a rivalry. You can throw out all the records in a big rivalry game like this one. I think Milan has a very solid team & coaching staff. Again congrats!
  4. Unless something changes I don't think Humboldt will go .500 this year. Maybe it's the new coaching staff I don't know but Humboldt just doesn't seem like everyone's on the same page. Hopefully they'll get it all together but if they don't I see them having a long season.
  5. Yep, secondary is young! Still they are good athletes but will need some minutes to get better. They seemed lost on coverage several times against Giles. What I saw against Giles County is the d-line at times got pressure but overall didn't work over the Giles County o-line. Linebackers are pretty solid group. O-line didn't blow many holes open. No "stud" running back like years past. Backs are quick but didn't see many lower their shoulder & run over people. Barker & Davis will try to run over folks. Dunbar could be dangerous! Harrison had several nice catches. I believe, right now, that Humboldt's strength is the passing game. It was the first game & alot of times you make you most improvement between game 1 & game 2 so maybe they will buy into the new system & get better. Crockett vs Humboldt............I predict the team with the most points will win. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  6. I agree! They have ALOT to work on between the 1st & 2nd game.
  7. Hope you folks from Giles County had a safe trip home! That's a long drive. Congrats on the win last night.
  8. Matt's doing good.......thanks! He'll be redshirted this year which I think is a good thing. He could stand to gain a few pounds! He's serious about it as he eats 4 meals a day & works out ALOT. I'll bet he puts on 20lbs before next season! They got a new strength/conditioning coach up there that is nationally known so I'm sure that will help all of them out as well.
  9. Exactly! It's also different when the game is a BIG rivalry such as Huntingdon vs. Milan. Lots of emotion with two talented teams & coaches makes an interesting game. Alot depends on how Milan handles the pre-season pressure that ALOT of folks are putting on them. Milan will be okay if they play every game to win instead of playing not to lose. I'll take Milan over Huntingdon in a close one!
  10. I hear ya! That's a long drive on a bus. I'd probably give Giles County the slight edge in this one. Humboldt has too many unknowns right now. New coach, new O-line, new rb's, mostly new secondary, but still lotsa talent across the board. If the Vikes gel then they could be tough but I think it will be a few games before they really mesh. I'll say Giles County in a close one! Good luck to both schools & hope Giles County has a safe bus ride to/from Humboldt.
  11. That's funny! 2 of last year's secondary are playing college football on scholarship. A lot depends on the defensive scheme & coverages.
  12. Burke was 6'2" & 225lbs. Burke went on to play at Murray State. I'd tell you what I saw Punkin do in the high jump @ Milan once but you'd call me a liar! LOL. He won the high jump & had never high jumped before. Pure atheletism! Coach Nowell asked him if he could jump that bar & said he'd try.lol! All the Old Hickory guys doing the Fosbury Flop were standing there with their mouths open when he jumped the bar........................in a sitting position. roflmao. Punkin & Shine (Champion) were both cut by the 49er's & Cowboys. They called Shine to try-out 3 times! All right............enough about that '79 Viking team. Doubt Humboldt will ever see another one like them. Sad!
  13. Punkin was a once in a decade back! Kelsey Williams was the next great back to come along for Humboldt. Those guys were men among boys. Amazingly talented backs! Cain was a Hall of Fame coach that is missed to this day. He had a great staff that worked together. What alot of people don't know is he had one of the best defensive coaches around in Danny Nowell. Danny could analyze another team & make adjustments on the fly as well as anyone I've ever seen.
  14. I agree they were the best high school football team I've ever seen as well. They could make adjustments at the line of scrimmage better than anyone. The O-line was all on the honor roll! Smart, quick, no egos! Chris Cain was the most atheletic high school qb I've seen in a while. Punkin Williams was AWESOME & I'm like you don't know how he wasn't an NFL starter. Saw Punkin run smack over Blakemore in the Memphis vs Ole Miss game. Knocked his jock strap off for a 64 yard run. I ragged him afterwards about running over a 270lb d-lineman then being chased down & tackled by a 185lb safety. He just laughed! Tony Champion was another stud & still holds records in the CFL to this day. See him all the time & I believe he could still play pro ball. I believe the Lexington score was 7-0 as Gerry Brittain (formerly from Lexington) interecepted a late pass & returned it for a td to win the game. Welch is an attorney in Georgia now & is doing well. That team wasn't even scored on till Obion County scored on the second string defense in the 6th game. Jerry Barker was the anchor at middle linebacker. That guy was not big but would hit you like a freight train. Mathis was an unbelievable athelete. I could go on! That team was very special in deed.
