  1. Pickett2007, you just don't agree with whatever it is I'm saying, you've been against me all year long and I have no clue why. But I am confident they will be the strongest three players on the court, because I have seen them play. They are all three juniors and all already have a 1,000 points. I'm not trying to put Madison down, I know nothing about them expect where they are from. I know 7a and 7aa and 7a is the strongest district in the state. The top four teams in this district could have all made state somewhere else. Everyone is underestimating PC and I'm sure Brent and his girls like it that way. This team is good, sure they were ranked fourth in the district, but they lost two games they shouldn't have while Garner was out and one was her first game back, so they could have been 3rd. These girls still have to show up and play wednesday morning and play, but assuming they do so, I think they'll win the game. Good luck PC, Clarkrange, and LA.
  2. Pickett Co is gonna win this game, Gibson, Garner, and Garrett will make sure of that. Megan will be missed, she was a leader and played her heart out, but losing her wouldn't be as bad as losing Gibson, Garrett or Garner. They will be 1,2, and 3 best players on the court against Madison. PC has played a tough schedule. Lost to a team (3 times) Clarkrange, that noone has come close to this year, but they beat JC, which many people around PC knew they were capable of. They beat Friendship 3 different times, who when they got put out where #8 in the state, when noone believed they could do it. They've beat Jackson Co #2, #5 CSAS, #20 Clay Co., Friendship #23 (3 times). This team is tested, and yes they've even learned things from their losses. Every team learns something from losses. This team has been playing great basketball. This team since they beat Rbs or whoever in the first round of the district, has not played a team not ranked in the top 25 in the state. They may not have won them all, but they've played hard. Do you realize that region 4 had 5 teams ranked in the top 25? People just don't realize how good our district is top to bottom until they see it up close and personal at the boro. We'll see how it goes Wednesday morning in the murf, but I won't be betting against the lady bobcats.
  3. Your entitled to your opinion. Jackson Co may have been overrated, but not by that much. PC hasn't lost a game in TN outside of 7A and 7AA (the strongest two regions in the state), doesn't mean they can't, just stating facts. PC is a lot better than there record and has been underestimated all season long. They have three really good players, and I totally expect to see them in the finals Saturday. But they have to take care of business first against Madison Acad. first and foremost, and I totally expect them to do some. Play hard girls, and good luck.
  4. With PC on what I consider to be the "easier" side of the bracket, I say its definitely possible for PC and Clarkrange to meet in the finals. Good luck to both teams!
  5. Pickett Co Cornerville Clarkrange Oliver springs
  6. Everyone has forgotten that PC's previous dominance. Brent is the first really experienced coached we've had since his brother, Barry. He knows how to get the most out of his players, but he has a really good group of girls to coach as well. These girls play team basketball and are really unselfish. Its great to see PC girl's back to the state for the first time in 20 years. Its hard to believe that none of these girls were even alive the last time our girls where in the state tournament. Maybe this will finally give our girls the respect they deserve. Good luck girls!
  7. You where right Rocking Chair, Dad said Sam was the coach for three of them. Which girls were you talking about that won it as 8th graders? Because I asked dad and he said Perry Lynn was a freshman when they won the first one. JC won theirs from 2000-03. LA won one in '99 and '04. Pretty good run there for 7AA. JC didn't move down to single A til '06. I'd say if Brent wins one, he and Barry will be the only brothers to win one at the same school in the same sport.
  8. Maybe your rite, like I said, I wasn't even born then. My dad graduated in '76, I go by what he has told me, and maybe I'm just misremembering what he told me. I know Charles was his coach on the boys side in the four years he played, and I know he won at least one on the girls side and that it was during that 4peat and then he won one with the boys in '90. Sam was a great coach as well, in fact he was being considered for the coaching job as well before Brent was hired. Barry Smith was the Coach of the girls in '89 when the girls won it again, so maybe Brent can get his now or next year. But anyway you slice it, 4 titles in a row, no matter who was the coach, is impressive. I mean their is a reason why only Pickett Co. (A), Jackson Co. (AA), and Shelbyville (AAA) have won 4 consecutive titles, you have to have a special group of girls or just an unbelievable player like those teams did and a good coach to get the most out of their teams. PC had Perry Lynn, among other good ones, JC had Davidson, among others. But you look at the coaching those teams had as well. Gibson/Mitchell @ PC, Brown @ JC, Rick Insell @ Shelbyville. I mean as successful as Looper was at LA and Rogers is at Clarkrange, they haven't even come close to winning 4 consecutive state titles. That tells you something about how hard, and how special those three runs where. If our girls are within 15 points of Clarkrange tomorrow night, I'll take that as a positive. Good luck girls, looking forward to watching the first substate girls game for PC in like 20 years.
  9. What girl from KY are you talking about? Kayla Gibson played in Clinton Co. in elementary school because her dad was director of schools, when he left that job, her and James both came back over here. They have always lived in PC and only went over there because their mom and dad where in the school system over there. But I'm guessing you are talking about Tara Garner, she was in PC school system until her freshman year when she went to Clinton Co. for a year, for whatever reason, she didn't like it, and came back, because (I believe) their was a coaching change. These girls are from PC and came back to PC. They weren't like Laken and Molly who grew up in other school systems and transferred to other schools. I can't blame them for doing what they did, I think I would do it to better my chances as well. PC has got some girls, two freshman and Megan White, who are from Overton Co, but these girls weren't gonna see the court down there, so they transferred up here, and I don't blame them a bit for it. I've always been a fan of Jim Brown's, but this year, his one superstar (Laken) couldn't outshine PC's three stars. Like I've always said, two great players> 1 superstar. So Garner/Gibson/Garret>Laken and a supporting cast.
  10. I think Sam coached the last two of the four in a row and Charles coached the first two, or maybe vice versa. But its 2-2 i know that. Sam was coaching in Albany last year, but he decided to step down to be able to watch Kayla more. She still plays for PC and is only a junior, so she'll be back next season with Garner and Garrett as well.
  11. I don't think it would be fair to compare this team to the teams in the late '70s early '80s. Those team where unreal from what I heard. Charles Mitchell was an unbelievable coach, I think it was said somewhere that He's the only coach to ever win a State title in Boys and Girls Basketball. Brent will have this program going for many years. They have 3 seniors back next year with two or three good sophomores that are only gonna get better.
  12. Biggest win, in Pickett co, since 1989 state title game. I thought these girls could do it. Brent is showing his value as a coach more and more, from last season to this season. Looking forward to getting to go the substate game this weekend. We haven't made it this far since that '89 season, and wow am I excited.
  13. 39-37 PC over JC! Biggest program win since the '89 Championship
  14. Actually you need to switch the locations of those games, first one was at JC second game was at PC. I don't think PC really showed up for the second game, and well the first one they only had one starter left by the end of the 3rd quarter. I fully expect this game to be a good one. Coach Smith has really got these girls playing better ball. I don't think you can take to much from that Clarkrange game and call me crazy but they might have not cared losing to Clay Co. cause now they are opposite of Clarkrange. I agree with ya Buff fan, whoever wins this game and Clarkrange are both going to the Murfreesboro to play. Cause Chattanooga hasn't been good enough in years.
  15. Haha. Here's my theory. PC beat Friendship because even as the four seed in 7a, they are still better than the number one seed in 8a. 7a is a better basketball district that 8a. PC has not played up to par all season long. Gibson and Garner will be the best two players on the court tomorrow night. This team will win, not by more than 4 or 5, but they will win.
  16. PC losing might be a blessing in disguise, imo, because now they are on the other side of the bracket from Clarkrange. JC is still JC but they are more beatable than Clarkrange. When people from Clarkrange are saying that this is the best C'range team they've ever seen, thats saying something. PC has already beat Friendship, the #1 seed from 8A ,i believe, twice. So they probably have that game, I'm gonna say, then if they can beat JC, which is a tall task in itself. But if they can get by JC, then even if they lose to C'range in the championship of the region, then they can make it back to state for the first time since '89. I know these girls are gonna take one game at a time though.Good luck girls.
  17. If not for Cummings and Dowdy scoring 14 pts a piece, then PC never gets back in this game to begin with. Those to dominated JC for a quarter and a half. PC just isn't ready for this yet, next year they will be. and Both the Cummings boys made turn overs, but PC's free throw shooting just killed them, like all the games this year, but this team will be back to top two or three next season.
  18. jc still returns a lot. They'll be a lot like this year. But pc doesn't lose much either (2defensive guys and a guy with a bad knee and really didn't get to play but a half season because of that knee. If jo and Sam can play like they did in the second half for an entire season, this teamwill be 5 to 6 wins better. Just on that alone. If the sophomores can score maybe ten per game then i think you add 3 or 4 wins. This team needs to do over the offseason 1) they need to play together, like just pick up basketball. 2)get stronger physically, these boys aren't very tall and they may not grow anymore over summer..so they need to get stronger to make up for it. And 3) they need to a)become better freethrow shooters, these are awful from the line and b)learn how to handle full court pressure, gotta get better at getting the ball up the court. I think this years freshmanwill give this team some valuable mins off thebench. Next year is gonna bea much better year folks.
  19. Can PC win this one? Yeah, I guess its possible....but this team peaked two or three weeks ago when they played JC, Clarkrange, and Clay Co. close, since those three close games, they lost to RBS badly, lost to Van Buren and Monterey close and then lost big to Clinton Co. Ky. This team isn't playing good basketball, not playing confident basketball....I don't know what the problem is, and I'm not even gonna try to figure it out...We are just a young basketball team with three of our five best players being sophomores and they aren't ready for this yet. Next year I'm gonna feel better. I really like this sophomore class, Elder especially and Jo Dowdy should look to have a big senior year. If Caleb Cummings can shake the nervousness that I've seen him have so much, this team will be really improved, because we've been shaky with our ball handling this year, as a team, not just Caleb. I also really like our freshman class, I think out of the whole game at Albany the other night, the freshman were the bright spot, now given it was against the second team, but they played impressively. Chase Ferrell is much better than I originally gave him credit, Jolly and Rupp are looking like what I thought they could be all along, and Chase Young was doing what he does, running around all over the court and playing defense, just love the kids energy. Those 3 or 4 freshman thrown in with Dowdy, S. Cummings, Elder, Aaron, C. Cummings, and Rich I think next year will be a better year for us. We still won't be very good outside of single a basketball, because our schedule is tough and filled with good out-of-state teams like Clinton Co. Ky and good in-state teams like LA and York and who knows who else we'll schedule. I'd like to go back to playing the Chattanooga teams, then their will be a good test for us. I think we should try and play some more 8A schools like Gordonsville. Maybe someone in Van Buren's region like Nashville Christian or Eagleville. But back to tonight, I think we can win, but I'm not getting my hopes up... This team has disappointed me too many times this season for me to do that...But if they pull a big upset tonight, then I will be very happy, and congratulate them. PC hasn't missed region in 20+ years, so there is a lot on the line tonight. Good luck guys.
  20. No, they probably could have played at the junior college level....but some people don't have the desire to play college ball, Asberry is a pharmacist now, Crouch has an accounting degree and Tompkins is in the military and has a history teacher degree. Ya know, just because you don't get a major college scholarship to be a good high school player. Those guys were all good high school players, Andy had over 1,000 pts and I'm pretty sure John is 6th or 7th all time at 1900 something points. Now points aren't everything but those guys lead there teams to two or three state tournaments, depending on which Class you are talking about.
  21. I think its over....I don't think we will win another game this season.....we can, but I don't think we will. We had three games in a row that we really could have won (RBS, Van Buren, and Monterey) and we didn't. Listen folks, we've had games we played well, but the facts are the facts, and we haven't won a game since December during Christmas tournaments, that's sad. Now we've got one regular season game left, Clinton Co. KY, and these guys made it to the All-A state tournament last month in KY, so yeah, they are good....too good, probably better than anyone in our district. A group that is tough as nails....and if you think we are gonna get any calls in their gym, your crazy. Our team is soft, so soft it makes me sick to my stomach. I missed 5 games since I was a sophomore in high school, and I haven't went to the last three games, because I couldn't stand to watch this soft, unphysical basketball. I don't know what it is, maybe they've been babied their whole lives and everything has been given to them....maybe not.....Maybe its that they are so scared to get a T and then they'll have to run the next day at practice (which I think is dumb, takes away the passion), so they don't play physical or tough. I think if a Coach can get a T, then a player should be able to get one. If a player gets a T, you bring them over, you calm them down, you say you can't be getting any more T's and you say keep that fire and passion going. I remember when Andy Asberry and Josh Tompkins where player, they played with a passion, they were tough as nails, they were all over the court with their defense, and if they got a T so be it, Coach Mitchell or Coach Smith would set them down for a few mins, and then they were right back in there, all over everywhere. We better hope this team really toughens up over the summer, grows some, and learns how to score or we'll be right back in this same conversation again next year. I have confidence that Coach Bibb can turn it around, but it's gonna take a lot of hard work by our guys. We've gotta get a lot more physical strength that we don't have right now. Good luck to all the tournament teams, I'm not sure I can stomach watching the district tournament.
  22. Sometime in the '80s. PC used to never make the region in the 70s really. My dad graduated in '76 with Asberry and they never made region. Of course back then there was like 9 teams, with all the teams in district now, plus Hermitage Springs, Rickman, and Upperman. We've made it to the district championship every year since '90, so its been atleast 19 years, but its probably 20 or a little more since Mitchell and Eugene where there in the late 80s.
  23. Funny thing is, I knew about your streak....I was ticked off when Coach Bibb let the baseball coach do the announcing. I mean its just a tradition to have you do them. Me and Lance Mason talk about that game and the streak all the time (he's my college roommate). I'm thinking if Coach Bibb is ever in position to host a substate game again, that he better get you back up there. TopDawg, I tell ya, I wish they'd move this district 7a and region 4 back to the way it used to be...with the district games at Avery Trace or Upperman and then every other year we get to host it at one of those sites. I think its ridiculous how our district hasn't hosted a region tournament since '05 when I was a senior. Thanks for putting so much effort into what ya do, I know I sure enjoy it, and most of the former players do as well. You were like the voice of our winter ball games. Your almost as much a tradition as PC basketball has been over the last 20 years. Anyway, I hope they get ya back on the mic, the guy at LA is just simply awful, no heart whatsoever. I'll try and remember to come say hey, hopefully my teams in it long enough to be able to do so.
  24. You are darn right I am a die hard fan, will be til the day I die....and there is nothing wrong with that....I'm glad I have faith in coach Bibb and these boys on the team now, and the team coming up through the ranks... I know this seventh grade class is gonna be good, no doubt....but this freshman class might surprise some people too. Only two of these boys played ball at PC jr high and those two were playing with 3 6th graders at the time, the other two are from overton co, so we haven't seen this group play together to know how they will do. Yeah, this program isn't as strong as it used to be, but single A basketball isn't what it used to be. We've played FCS and Clay Co. twice a piece this season, and they are both ranked in the top ten in the state, we've played 3 out of the 4 games close with those teams. If we are so bad how can we hang with the #7 and #8 ranked teams in single A basketball? Our problem isn't that we can't score, our problem is that we have to figure out how to score....What I mean is, that we don't have anyone on the team who has ever had to be the go to guy, so we need one of these guys to realize that they are the scorers and have to score. Jo Dowdy and Heath Elder are well on their way to that. You are obviously down on our program,a glass is half empty kinda guy, you probably don't even go to half the games yourself to watch them....So as I said before I won't take anything you say seriously. This district loses a lot again next year....Clay Co. loses 6 seniors, Clarkrange loses Upchurch.....Jackson Co. will be good, Monterey will be ok, and RBS is moving to 8A next season, so yeah, I think we've definitely got a chance at the district title the next two maybe three seasons.....You don't ever just look at whats going on with your program, you look at what everyone else around you has coming back as well.
