  1. Would someone please 'splain to me why TN has only 2 divisions for BBall? I could understand that there might be a few sports like golf or tennis where there would be only two or three divisions, due to basic expenses or facilities being too costly. But everyone has a gym so why not play BBall in the same conference in which you play Football and Baseball (or is baseball different, too)? thanx in advance for some 'splainin to a confused transplant /unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
  2. hey they already play some pretty darn good rugby..both the men and womens teams...the guys have trouble with BA, but of course, BA recruits too /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  3. not to belabor a point, but is it not the intent of a coach/team to catch the opposing team off guard with basic play calling? Heck if offenses did what the D expected, there would be lots of boring games IMHO....I used to hope for a score or at least a nice gain on every play..
  4. trick play, huh? I believe Maplewood tried the exact same play...if they had hit it, maybe they might have come closer...its all part of the Maryville package...it is not a 'trick' play....GQ uses it many times a year..it just works for his team...congrats to Maplewood...they played well!!
  5. I do not have any real numbers, but I do know that two years ago, Coach Quarles was asked on a Knoxville radio talk show how many tuition students were on the football team. Out of 85 players, 5 were on the team and 2 actually saw playing time that particular year. I can guarantee that most tuition students are attending MHS for academics....you should check out the academic program that MHS has...one of the best in Tennessee....right up there with Oak Ridge HS. When the team wasn't winning years ago and there were many more tuition students than now, there was no one questioning this. I guess now that MHS won the State title in Basketball it won't be long until you start hearing people whining about that program. Maryville is not expanding its city limits into the county like they could I suppose. Therefore some folks who live in the county prefer the academics offered there that may not be at Willy Blount or Heritage...they are good schools in their own right but they do not offer everything MHS does. When my daughter graduated MHS she already had 16 hours credit that transferred to UT...she was essentially a 2nd semester Freshman when she walked onto campus.....It isn't all about sports there. When we moved here from North Carolina 10 years ago, as I was interviewing the principal about my son coming here, I tried to get answers about sports programs since he was an athlete, but I was told quite frankly that he would not discuss sports at all until we concluded with our academic discussion. just my $ .02!!
  6. I've got a question for you folks who, after losing to other teams, will pull the "yea but how many of your players make it to the NFL or D-1 Schools'...what is your point? Archie Griffen won the Heismann Trophy both his Junior and Senior years at OSU but never made it in the pros. I do not remember anyone saying he wasn't a good football player...perhaps he just did not have the body or stamina to play at that level. Such is the same for alot of high schoolers. Some of them are great prep players and may not want to play college due to academic pursuits (God forbid anyone wants to get an education). Just because they don't go on to higher levels, people put them down. But it is usually after they have been b*tch slapped on the field. I know a bunch of folks in the Knoxville area that get slapped around by Maryville will inadvertantly whine...'yea you beat us, but why aren't they putting kids at higher levels'...we're all proud of any young person that makes it to a higher level...but don't minimize their victories by putting them down my $.02
  7. Before Maryville fans start saying there's no way for Sullivan South to win this game, keep in mind that they did thrash Morristown West a couple of weeks ago - the one team that's beaten Maryville in their last 113 games. What are your thoughts on this game? I believe most of those fellows from that Mo West team have probably graduated by now..what's your point? /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
  8. Knox Central's line is very offensive!!!! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
