  1. Asnap, Surge Please accept my deepest apologies for the posts about VHS. This started out as a simple question why some girls did not return from last year's squad. I knew the reason for one and it was not BASKETBALL as everyone thinks. She still has not recovered 100% from the head injuries she received by being attacked last year and accordingly to doctors may never. She had to go homebound last year because of injuries and neurologist said any blow next 2 - 3 months to head may cause permanent damage. The student that attacked her was still in school and making threats to do it again whe she returned. The student that attacked her has a history of violence and physically attacked four other students during school year. With this student still at VHS her safety was paramount. SO NOW YOU KNOW. With the head injuries she sustained, for her try out and make any team was quiet an accomplishment. When some derogatory coacht posts, myspace comments were made and ugly text messages she received came from people not knowing why she left I became very defensive and vented my frustration in a very improper way. For those of you that know the truth and what she has gone though the past year physically and emotionally thanks for your love and support. For those who did'nt know and still snub her you are missing the opportunity to know a wonderful young lady whose heart and family still supports the Lady Falcons. Again I a truly sorry and embarrassed for the posts and will not be making anymore
  2. Just got off phone with someone intmately involved with Volunteer program, basically confirmed this is Anderson's last season and girls are elated. Anyone else heard anything, I know rumors have been going on since end of last season.
  3. My hat's off to Anderson at Volunteer, after a devastating loss of 2 seniors on last years team we're having a great year.
  4. Man did you hit nail on the head! I just watched DB play TN High and it went just like you predicted. I am afraid DB is tall and that is all. As long as the parents are happier with watching their kids play instead of the team winning this is the way it will be next couple of years.
  5. I'm afraid you're right, they have not played any good big nine teams yet and got beat by a mediocre jeff county. For all the size and talent DB has they are not to impressive. Have yet to see a team leader step up and fire our girls up, but season is young.
  6. I hope they have a great season and are on their way to a strong program in the future. Playing as a team a hustle will beat a lot of teams with one great player and no chemistry. I witnessed the no chemistry this weekend at a local boy's tournament. Parent's behind me complaining about son (a guard) not playing, soon as he was put in parent's started yelling "Play your game, play your game"! He took ball down court, did not call a play and shot a brick for a three point attempt. Next time he got the ball, did not call a play and drove straight down lane. Shot was blocked, coach called time out and took him out. LESSON TAUGHT, IT'S NOT YOUR GAME!
  7. You win, I can't compete with the grammar and spelling! I hope your English teacher does not know your id and read these.
  8. I find it hard to believe she could not make the team, I saw her play with my niece for 2 years at Church Hill Middle and last year at Volunteer as a freshman. I also find it hard to believe someone would transfer to a school where they would get no playing time if she is as bad as you obviously think she is. Maybe she just decided not to play anymore.
  9. Very true, they struggled against Volunteer which basically played 5 guards. If either one of TN Highs guards gets in foul trouble, they will struggle.
  10. Are you sure huddle is at db? She was sitting with JV volunteer basketball team at TN High game Tuesday night but was not dressed out.
  11. I tend to agree, Barton girl on last years team hard to beat!
  12. Like I said Big 9 should be interesting this year!
  13. Boy did that strike a nerve! I was just wondering why they're are not playing this year. I was a little surprised when when practise started none of them were playing. I go to almost all Volunteer games and yes I was there cheering them on against TN HIGH!
  14. Volunteer did hit a couple of quick 3s to get a lead, but they can not handle pressure defense. They stayed in game because TN High starters got in foul trouble playing aggressive defense. A lot of the game was played against subs. I am not calling Volunteer bad that's just how I saw the game. I have a lot of respect for all high school atheletes that put in the effort to play at that level.
  15. Did you know any of those girls? Why are they better off without them? FYI - I do have a granddaughter playing on Church Hill middle school
  16. Just got home from game, Tn High really struggled against a team most good jv teams could beat. Big 9 should be very interesting this year! Luck to all.
  17. Went to ETSU / Wingate exhibition game sunday week ago and noticed Coach Smith talking to girl after ballgame, looked to be a guard. Dark aburn hair, about 5' 6'' she had on a DB t-shirt. Any ideas who it might be?
  18. Wathed two DB varsity scrimmages. Not to impressed, no one who can dominate inside. They do not have strong go to person on offense and no one who plays agressive defense. One guard is quick but does not handle pressure very well. This is third DB scrimmage I've seen and I think they are going to struggle to play 500 ball.
  19. Watched Cyclone / Indian varsity/jv scrimmage last night. DB varsity looked really sluggish. I would give advantage to Cyclones. However DB played a more girls than Cyclones, so hard to really judge. Cyclones post player will give anybody a run for their money. One varsity Cyclone guard looked good, she's really quick but she could stand to slow down and play a little more under control. Cyclone jv girls started off strong but game was very even after a few minutes, I would give edge to DB. Impressed with a guard from DB, she was only in game couple of times for short periods because of sore knee. She had 4 rebounds, three blocked shots, 4 assists, 2 steals, 2 jump balls good ball handler, needs to work on speed. Heard she is a tution student and not eligible for varisty because of TSSAA for living outside of school district. Things should be interesting this year.
  20. What is going on at Volunteer? Cynthia Lawson, last years junior starting guard not playing this year, Hillary Dobbs last year freshman/jv guard not playing this year, Kaylee Huddle, last year freshman/jv guard not playing this year, Katlin Smith last year jv/varsity forward/center quit team after last years season. Is Volunteer going to have a team this year?
  21. I heard that a sophmore guard from volunteer high school's last year girl freshman/JV squad gave up a starting position on varsity this year and transferred to another school. She was touted as possibly the best girl basketball player to ever attend volunteer and would have a big impact on upper east tn baketball. Anyone know who she is and where she went?
