i'm a unicoi fan but they didn't make "it farther than any other East Tennessee team last year." Dobyns Bennett and University High both made it to the state tournament and UH actually won their first game at the state and lost in the semi's. and i can't agree with you either about johnson county not having a chance against unicoi. they will be very tough to beat, especially in mountain city. they always are tough and don't give up. and as far as the conference, i don't think that they pick and choose that. it will be better with sullivan east in there starting next year. coach dyer does a good job with them and they will have almost everybody back if the roster in the hardee's classic brochure was right. /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

you undoubtedly know that it is harder to play up than people think. its hard to get AAA teams to play many times because they would rather play AAA teams than the little AA teams and you can only play so many non-conference games. 4 years in the hardee's to try to get to play some bigger schools, played in the boone christmas invitational last year, play 2 AAAAAA teams in florida every other year(including this year). the A teams have no problem playing unicoi, so unicoi plays them. the last few years they have been as good as many of the teams in AA in this area. not for sure that you could say that AE wasn't any good last year though. they split with fulton(state champs) in the 4 games they played each other and lost to the state runner-up on an offensive rebound put back. they sound pretty good to me. unicoi would have had a better chance of winning if they would have played fulton just because of the different playing styles of AE and fulton. but, that is all history, and this is a new year. /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

unicoi beat boone 80-64. was up by 25+ early in the third and boone got back into the game. never got it to single digits but fought back very well. unicoi done a good job of stopping the run by boone and holding on for the double digit victory. unicoi is now 5-0 with all 5 wins against big 9 teams. been playing well but have to keep it up. it is a long year. /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

unicoi got win number 4 tonight over crckett. 4-0 on the year. they will play daniel boone tomorrow night in the hardee's tournament finals. boone beat elizabethton in the other semi-final. /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

the years that central was in aa was when coach english took over the program in erwin. his first two years unicoi went about .500 overall and finished toward the bottom of the conference. then the third year, was centrals last in aa, unicoi went 28-6 overall and 11-3 in conference, won the district tournament(beating central), finished second in the region(losing to central), and lost at ae in substate. the fourth year unicoi went 29-5 overall and 14-0 in conference, finished second in district, and lost in region. the fifth year unicoi was 29-8 overall and 14-0 in conference, won the district, second in the region, and lost at fulton in substate. and the sixth year(last year) unicoi went 30-4 overall and 14-0 in conference, won the district, won the region, and lost at home to ae in substate. unicoi has been getting better under coach english. took a little while to get the program going but now is generally one of the best teams in the area. as i said somewhere before. i think they could play with the top of the big 9, may not beat them but should be competitive. played science hill last year and lost by 5 after being up by 18 at one time early. /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />
