  1. What is going on at Spring Hill ? I for one remember the pride that used to exude from the whole town and it's football team. I realize Spring Hill is a different place, but can't help but think the right person could reignite the community and the team to it's former glory ? I will say, I haven't been on S.H. campus in at least 10 years so I can't speak to talent, facilities, etc... but it just seems strange to me that the program has sunken so low ? Are there any names being floated around ? Are they actively doing anything ? Has Ben Martin's name been mentioned ? He played at S.H. was A.D. and coached at a private school in Nashville, I graduated with his sister saw her the other day and she said he was looking for a job ? I don't know if he is interested or anything about his coaching ? but it would seem to me that a hire of someone with "old school" ties could be beneficial ? Would like to hear some opinions of folks that have been around the program lately, and above all would like to see S.H. return to a legitimate program.

  2. Can someone give an objective explanation for what is going on with SH ? I've heard everything from no talent to no coaching, inadequate feeder system ? It seems to me the time for making excuses has come and gone. The problem is, I remember SH as a "football school" now it seems as it's just an afterthought ? It's great they've hired four new coaches, who are they and whats their background ? And maybe the most important question.... Is there any support from Administration ? or is it a "don't rock the boat" mentality ? With the exception of baseball (excellent coach) and boys basketball, I don't see any promise for SH Athletics at all. just mho

  3. Word is Jeff Brothers new NCS Coach ?

Its not over yet, soucres say there are 2 left, sources can not name them.

Has the A.D. @ NCS applied ? I know his family (from Spring Hill) heard he turned down the S.H. job a couple of years ago ? Must love it up there, not to come home.

  4. What about this '80?

Not so much about "how much they care about the student-athlete"; but just a bad decision imho.

Football is losing a football assistant to Indy, then they take another assistant football coach (LB's) with absolutely "0", notta; did I say 0 experience with soccer and forces him to be the soccer coach this spring.

In summary: Football will be down 2 coaches come spring practice and soccer will have a coach that knows absolutely nothing about soccer.

How does that help either sports team?

Until Maury County takes a sincere and serious approach toward athletics, Maury teams will always be kind of a one and done type area. Yeah I know Columbia had a great season and Spring Hill had a good season this year; but until the School Board and Central office take athletics seriously it will just be dependent on luck as to how well Maury teams do.

Well 74, not a good situation at all, I'm sure there are factors we don't know about causing some of these decisions and I would put the blame square on the county's shoulders. ( of course they will blame budget cuts etc...) but the fact remains there is NO emphasis put on athletics. I'm not suggesting it is the most important thing but from my best estimation Maury Co. is not exactly an academic mecca. Not saying they couldn't be but I think athletics can improve academics ( but thats another story for another day) I'm not buying what they're selling. I had the chance to ride by the new SHMS Wow what a facility, built in a terrible location. IMHO...... They should have made the high school the new middle school built another elementary where the new middle school sits and built a new Spring Hill High School with up to date facilities and get this..... Actually in the city of Spring Hill !!!! but what do I know ?

  5. Being a Principal at a High School is not an easy job. I know I wouldn't want it.

The school has been there for 18 years now and the football team still does not have a field house and the visitors dressing areas are unacceptable. The baseball/softball teams don't have the facilities to be able to practice indoors. They have to use the upper balcony area for indoor batting practice etc. And that's when basketball doesn't have preference. Soccer really doesn't have any facilities. No Track. No Tennis Courts.

The weight room was upgraded this year with equipment, thanks to Coach S and some generious donors. It is the only weight room for all the athletes and can only handle about 25 players.

I think the Principle does a pretty good job, but it sure does seem like Spring Hill is treated like a step child by the "powers that be" within Maury Co School system. Is that because the Director is a graduate of Columbia Central? I don't know, but it seems that Columbia gets more support than the other high schools within Maury Co.

I'd like for the Admin at Spring Hill to "scream" a little louder from time to time to get what the student-athletes at The HILL need.

Amen66in74 !!!!!! Spring Hill has always been Maury Co. "stepkid" even when they won state !

  6. I may be speaking "out of school" here but the best I can remember, the current principal (former ag teacher) busted his butt keeping up the field and was the p.a. announcer for the games. I'D say he's pretty supportive of the "student athlete".

You're right, he loves the ag stuff!!

I'm not talking about the "ag stuff" (but we both know you know that). I'm talking about caring for kids. ie: student athletes.

  7. I would love to have someone from the Glory Days to coach for the Raiders. I prefer that, actually. If we can get someone from back in the day, the town will rally behind him. But if nobody is available that has proven that he can win, then I will take someone not from the Raider Tradition.

One problem with this coaching search is where they can fit them in as a teacher. McKnight was a P.E. teacher.

Classof80-Who was the alumni you were referring to about being interested? Inquiring minds want to know.

Do you think that Orlando "Papa" Wade will start coming back to games?--Heard he didn't quite enjoy this staff.

Raiders27 I really don't want to mention his name until I can confirm he would be interested. I do know he still lives in Spring Hill but I understand he has his kids in Nashville at school with him. Having said that I can't help but think if he thought he had a chance to come back he would be interested. I know he loves the program and still follows the raiders. The biggest thing I think he could do for Spring Hill is bring "old S.H." together with "new S.H."

  8. I understand what you guys are saying about bringing in "new blood" to Spring Hill, but I come from a time when losing was unacceptable in the Hill. You may be right we need new faces, but in my opinion we need some "old blood" to bring back the attitude we carried in the glory days ( still single a and taking care of business) Just my thoughts.

  9. sounds like you may that alum /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" I saw them in the spring and they definitely have some talent. Hear the school system has very little pay and the facilities are horrible. Is this true?

Not me but I know him, and I don't know if he is interested, just hearsay. He's younger than me and may be a good fit. As far as the facilities, they could definitely use some updates.
