Just got back from spending a week down in the Redneck Riveria smashing back some Natty Ices on the beach each day and chasing White Claw ladies at night and fully expected us to have a coach by now.

it seems the powers to be don’t want football to succeed by the delay in the hiring. It is June and these boys need to be instilled what it means to be a Squatch Man. I tried to schedule a meeting with the superintendent before I left on my trip and she gave me the run around like Sue Givens did back in high school.

Times are a changing in God’s Country. Getting rid of natural grass for some fancy city boy turf. They need to hire a Squatch man for the job.

I think the "Powers that be" spending over a Million dollars on football facilities would say otherwise!

One other thing the Superintendent is a he!

I would say he learned a lot in between HC jobs. He had some good kids at Bledsoe the past couple years but I also believe he's a good coach. Sequatchie is in a good position to be able to land a very good coach. Facilities will be second to none in the area.

    I agree!

Any coach at Sequatchie County regardless of sport in my opinion will never have to go without something that some other program might have in regards to facilities or equipment to help his team compete and be successful.   Who ever they hire they need someone who can talk to the kids and recruit the halls as there has been a number of great athletes over the last several years not playing football and focusing instead on basketball, baseball, wrestling, soccer or running track.

I like the idea of hiring Grider  I think his name would help a lot in what I mentioned about getting some kids on the fence out.  I know he had took a job as an Assistant but maybe he isn't done with being a HC and was just burned out in SP and needed a fresh start.   While he wouldn't have the athletes he had at SP as folks saw what Coach Caine did in Dunlap in just a couple of years if a coach like Grider or anyone for that matter can get the kids to buy in and give 110% they can compete with most anyone at the 3A level.

I'm hoping an announcement comes Tuesday or at least this week.  Maybe a decision has been made and they gave someone the weekend to think it over.   It would give the new coach a couple of weeks to get to know his players and get a playbook gone over before the Dead Period.

What is Bledsoe Coachs record other than the 2 years he has been at Bledsoe?

To me, Gryder is the obvious choice, if he is in fact interested.

I don't know anything about him other than what he's done at Bledsoe. Having seen a few of their games I just think he can coach (as do others who know a lot more about football than me).

I've heard the Grider rumors like a lot of people have. I've heard a few names and to me Tabor would be a good hire.

On paper at first glance it doesn't look great.  Everything I can tell Bledsoe is only his 3rd stop as HC.  He was Head Coach at Monterey when he was a young guy from (1995-1997) and was (5-27) and then at Stewart Co.  (2000-2002) and was (7-23) .

However from what I can find he has been an Assistant Coach at Emanuel County Institute in Georgia until he took the job in Pikeville (2004-2018) .  He was ECI's Offensive Coordinator from (2008-2018) in that span they were (110-27) won 5 Region Titles and their 2nd State Championship and his offense put up a combined 5,249 points in those years he was OC.   It appears he learned a lot in that span and found or developed an offense he really likes and makes it where his kids can execute it.

The past two years after he left for Pikeville, ECI (2019-2020) is (10-11) only scoring 512 points.

His two years at Bledsoe Co. (2019-2020) Tabor and BCHS is (19-5) scoring 696 points of which 387 was scored last season.  In the previous five years (2014-2018) Bledsoe Co. scored a combined 923 points.

Depends on when we play at Finley. Definitely will be there if MC isn't playing that night. Excited for you guys. For sure will have the best facilities around the area.

Is it true that to play in the Finley Jamboree each team has to pay a entry fee?

well, call BS all you want dude... Science and statistics do not lie. This is not an opinion, it is a fact. How many colleges that used to have turf change back to grass? I do not have the numbers in front of me, but I know several have.

If your talking old school AstroTurf I'd agree that stuff was basically outdoor carpet.  The new stuff now days is probably softer than a lot of grass fields with the rubber etc.. that's put down with it.

Are they going to open the job up?  Haven't seen it on tssaa.  Seen on Twitter where they named Coach Montgomery as interim.  Is that for the year or till a hire is made.  Sure is late in the game to draw the expected interest.

Don't know how true that is but I heard they can't post it until June 1st.     Coach M is the interim HC until he isn't.   I think the pic I posted above and everything the school system is investing in the program will help draw more interest than you would think.   One other thing SCHS is closing in on the upper tier of 3A as they were less than a 100 students from the 3A cutoff this last enrollment figures.  I wouldn't be surprised by next classification period if they aren't right on that 3A/4A classification line.

  7. I may be biased but I don't see Sequatchie having a problem finding quality candidates for the job.  The school system is currently investing heavily in renovating/updating their athletic facilities keeping them the best in the Sequatchie Valley and among the best in public school systems in the State.

The football stadium is getting new synthetic turf with construction set to begin any day now.  The QB Club with help form the school system is going to be updating the field house with new lockers and other things.  If I'm not mistaken the stadium will also be getting new LED lighting.

A new regulation sized track is going in with new lighting so SCHS can hold regional/sectional track & field events.  Both the Baseball & Softball fields are getting makeovers with new backstops etc.. and LED lighting before next season.

    Who you talking about

If you haven't heard yes Coach Wattenbarger resigned yesterday.

It came as a surprise as everyone was getting pretty excited for the season.  They just wrapped up spring with around 70 kids not counting a few I think still playing baseball and supposedly will have around 10-12 incoming 9th graders.

All that after a 2-8 season.

Sequatchie County is on the clock.

    Edit:  @Indian,  was this foreseen?

To answer for Indian No, The QB Club had already announced last week they were having a Parent Meeting for tonight to talk about the new turf & field house renovations.  They didn find out until late yesterday evening.

If I'm not mistaken it will be only the 3rd Public school team in SE Tennessee to have turf behind Rhea County and Cleveland.

    Probably baseball/basketball regions.

That's possible with Basketball, Marion Co. Central TZ)  is in with all Chattanooga teams which is in the Eastern Time Zone .

While Sequatchie/Bledsoe are in with Monterey, Jackson Co, & York Inst. that's some possible hazardous travel on a school night in the Winter.

Grundy is stuck in the Middle TN district with Cascade, Community and Forrest.

That takes out a lot of gate money with border rivals.

  12. It just makes no sense to send Sequatchie & Grundy two & half hours west on the other side of I-65 or for that matter Giles that far east.   It will cut down on gate money at all those schools as most fans will not make that trip.

A trip like that would also put buses getting back to each school at well after midnight.

They should put Jackson & Smith back in Reg. 4 and put Giles in Reg. 5.

Meigs went to region 3 because we lost Cumberland Gap to region 1 and picked up Monterey & York. Meigs us better off in region 3 travel wise

I agree with Meigs that is almost like the old Reg. 3-2A in the mid to late 90's when Sequatchie was in there along with Meigs, Polk, Tellico, Tyner and I think Bledsoe.

  14. Seriously, are they kidding?  Not a fan of this at all.  Smith Co. & Jackson Co. weren't the only ones who got screwed but Sequatchie Co., Grundy Co. as well as Giles Co. really?

The travel between the first four wouldn't be that bad a straight shot up hwy. 111 and a 15/20 minutes on I-40.

I also didn't mind what the travel over to Community would have been every other year but traveling to Pulaski is going to be a nightmare.

There's no way this gets approved.  IMO.

Giles should be in Region 5.  They can hop on I-65 and be in the Nashville area in no time.
