  1. After discussing it with several people at the East games, there seems to be a whole lot more to the West transfer's not making the team than his ability to play or his size. I have heard everything from "he is being punished for transferring to West High School" to "he didn't make the team because of politics". Whatever the reason, I don't think getting more size in the mix is really going to help East High's team at this point. Getting beaten by twenty and thirty points a game seems to be wearing on the players and their spirits. However, East does have some young talent, especially Tee Howell. He is a really smooth player but he can't do it alone. Also, Garrett Cook has really stepped up this year and has made East a little more competitive. But, until players learn to work together as a team, no team anywhere can expect to win.
  2. Wow! Is the IMAC so dull and uninteresting that it is now relegated to the fifth page of this message board?
  3. Thanks for the information. I only have a limited time to watch this year. Is the Arby's classic going to be pretty competitive? I know in year's past, there was always some great teams from so many different places participating and that is what made it so interesting to watch. I check out to see if there is a website with a participant and playing schedule.
  4. Can anyone give me some more information on any Christmas tournaments that teams from the IMAC may be participating in? Thanks.
  5. First of all, I don't know who you think I am but I am not anyone's parent from the team. My child did play for Morristown East many many years ago, but I continued to follow the game just because I enjoy the sport. Believe me, in the years I have been watching Morristown East basketball, I have seen many coaches come and go and since football, not basketball, is a piority in this town, there will be many more come and go without much fanfare or hoopla. I don't know the young man you are speaking of. Someone simply commented about him to me when I was at the Heritage game and I said that East sure did lack some size. But, after reading this post, I did call a riend of mine whose son plays for West. He said that the young man had made the West team and was declared ineligible because of where he lived. So, that tells me that Coach Gordon did find potential in this kid but he just didn't get the chance to realize it. So, the kid goes to East but can't make the team. Whose talking about grudges now? As for the NBA, what percentage of the players out there now are planning careers with the NBA? I haven't seen one player from either Morristown team who is of the caliber enough to make it that far. Get real...this is a high school basketball team in a small Tennessee town. Coaches who think their players are NBA material need to get a reality check of their own and should spend less time on these message boards (hear that dsgotgame) and more time coaching their teams. The mentality that every kid has to be the next Michael Jordon really excludes a lot of kids from playing and many of these kids need sports as an outlet to keep them from getting in trouble. They may not be the best, but being a part of that team does something for a kid who could get into some trouble in life. Oh, and as for the loss to the school in MIssissippi...a loss is still a loss. Close doesn't count in basketball. One person is the winner and one is the loser. Come back and post when you've got a win to talk about or when you're not trying to run down some kid or trying to use all of your psychology skills to figure out who is who on these posts.
  6. I don't have to watch him in practice to see what kind of a coach he is. To lose a game by almost sixty points and give a quote to the Johnson City press that his team has "to work on how to work harder. They don’t know the effort it takes to win games” doesn't sound like someone who is trying to build a team. It sounds like someone who is playing the blame game. Furthermore, he is not my coach. I don't have any children or grandchildren who play on either the girl's or the boy's team. I just enjoy watching basketball. Have you watched him in practice? If so, you must have a great deal of inside information about the program that the rest of us don't. I look forward to seeing your posts in the future. Also, I don't think not wanting to work hard is always a reason why some players don't return when a new coach takes over and on this issue, I think you and a lot of other people give coaches too much credit. I certainly hope that East improves. Only time will tell.
  7. I do apologize for the error in the coach's name. However, the facts do remain the same. East is definitely NOT going to be the team to beat this year. I don't know who the kid is they are talking about; and, after the things you have said, I hope he is not identified here to save him any embarrassment. However, to me, if a kid is a "project", it is the sign of a truly good coach who can take that kid and make something out of him on the court. Anybody with that kind of height, even at 6'5", seems to be an asset to a team whose tallest player is 6'2", especially if he is a "good" kid. Apparently, Calvin Decker wasn't the coach to do that last year and neither is Coach WRIGHT. I just think it is a shame for the kid.
  8. Watching the Science Hill/Morristown East game was really painful. So was the final score (95-37). If I had known East was going to get beaten that badly, I wouldn't have made the drive. I feel pretty bad for the players who are out there working really hard like Garrett Cook and Walker Bullington. They just don't have anyone to back them up. When I read in the newspaper Sunday how Coach Sullivan was playing a different game because his tallest player was 6'2", I couldn't help but think, "Whose fault is that?" He's had the opportunity to work with some big men but chose not to do so. It is amazing at how different "size-wise" the team is from last year to this year. I don't know why the big men left or are not playing, but he needs to recruit some in a hurry. It is beginning to look like Coach Sullivan should have stayed in Pigeon Forge. I don't think he is ready for this league. Many more losses like the one Friday night and East's reputation of being the revolving door of coaching might come true and we'll be saying so long in a hurry.
  9. I was at the Morristown East game Tuesday night and they absolutely got drilled...it was so bad, they didn't even write about it in the paper. I also heard that they lost all their big men either to other schools, by choosing not to play, or by players not making the team. I heard that a 6'7" guy who has played for East for the past two years didn't even make the team. I thought it was because the team may be loaded but it is obvious that it is not. With Jordan Short gone to Greeneville and Brian Coy not playing, I would think that a 6'7" player would be a Godsend. Maybe there is some talent coming from the football team. I sure hope so. Otherwise, look for East to finish at the bottom.
