  1. Sorry, but I wasn't clear on that. Without Fullers' knee injuries maybe she would've been a better player. My comparason was that maybe UT is a half step higher than they should go. Go to a smaller school and be a factor every night than 4 years and be a small role player. Faith is coordinated and mobile for a 6-4 kid but she'll be playing against very athletic 6-3 to 6-6 kids in the SEC and it maybe tough for her to guard effectively. She is a smarter, better all around player than Glory was coming out last year but the there was no better basketball athlete in the state than Glory was the past 4 years.
  2. Just curious as to who people think is better, Jasmine Hassell of Wilson Central or Faith Dupree of Knox Webb. This is for those who has seen them both. I've seen both of them many times since they were freshmen and I believe Dupree is a much better all around player. Hassell is good and a great kid, but playing mostly zone will hurt her at the next level. Dupree is bigger, shoots better and passes better than Hassell. Neither one is a speed demon, but Dupree moves well without the ball. I'm not sure if TN is the best fit for her (see Alex Fuller), but you gotta go if you get the opprotunity. I know not many in this area get to see Knox Webb play, I know I'm ready for her to graduate. We at JPII have seen enough of her and Glory Johnson (UT's leading scorer as a freshman, Webb graduate).
  3. Anything goes in this game. I heard Campbell of Ryan hurt her ankle. Even as a JPII fan, I don't want her to be out. She's the heart and soul of their team. Without her it's hard for them to beat anyone. Come early as our gym at JPII is small and they have to turn away a bunch every year. Great atmosphere. JPII should have no problems.
  4. Congrats to a very good player and seems like a great kid. Her sister was also a good player. It's nice to see good kids get recognized even on a rival team. She can play on the next level if she chooses.
  5. Ouch. Just say nice win, as I would say with a nice Ryan win over Harpeth Hall in that 20-18 snoozer. We had a good win but that doesn't mean we're primed to win the tourney. It was our first region win and we have to get more consistent. We have a starter out the rest of the season and dress 3 freshmen that have to give us minutes here and there and have a great junior class. Anyone can win on a given night but this was no fluke. Also, no one cares about football. Have a good weekend all!
  6. Just wanted to give special congrats to our JP2 lady knights for the big win over #1 and defending state champs Ensworth on Tuesday. After graduating 5 seniors that had gone to 3 state tournaments and 4 of 5 starters missing games this year to injuries, it was a great team effort. Down 8 at halftime we scored the first 4 posessions and it was close the rest of the way. We also finally hit FT's down the stretch to close them out. It was the first ever win against Ensworth. Hopefully we can play well heading into the tourney as there is no team head and shoulders above the rest. Good luck to all.
  7. I believe you're about right on Johnny and Corey. While Jo Jo had some 30 pt games I don't believe he ever averaged 30 as a jr or sr. In the early 70's Eddie Sherlin led the state in scoring before there were 3pt ers and he averaged about 28 ppg over a 3 year stretch.
  8. It was close in the first half. Beachle outscored Ryan herself in the first quarter (9-6). Ryan double and triple teamed her in the second and no one else stepped up and was tied at the half. Then JPII scored on 5 of their first 7 posessions of the third to go up 12 quick and it never got close after that. You could see Coach Sneed's influence on Ryan's D but they had no one to step up and hit a shot when they had a chance to cut it down. It was followed by a good boys game and both JV games were good. Another exciting Ryan-JPII evening with a great atmosphere. Good kids on both sides.
  9. Nice...however, Campbell's soup will run dry and she'll need a drink of Quesinberries after Hammer smashes them. Things won't be so Rosie when Paige drops a double Baechers dozen on them. Ryans legs will be so tired they'll need some Crutchers to watch the boys game. Plus our girls don't even know what the Bishop's cup is. Any fish fry tomorrow? It's good stuff.
  10. The gym will be packed and it's still one of the best atmospheres in bball no matter the teams records. I'm changing to first team to 30 wins as JPII's Paige Baechle will get 20 herself. Ryan is totally rebuilding and JPII hasn't had a game with all 5 starters healthy to go along with only 3 kids who's seen previous varsity experience. It'll be good to see John Sneed again except on the other sideline. His assistant coaching alone gives Ryan a few points. Come enjoy.
  11. I'm not a fan of either school but enjoy reading posts on all subjects. At least try to make your posts readable. Bad spelling, grammar, no punctuation makes this a post no one cares to read. Everyone misspells now and then but too much texting leads to this. I know coach Dean and it was a good win.
  12. Maybe this will be more"on thread." For 3 years I've read pages and pages of coach this, AD that, parents whaaa, and have given a fair couple of responses of games my school has been involved in against WC or observations from seeing them play other games the past 3 years. Every game during this time the girls have played hard, not shown defiance, showed team togetherness, etc. I can't tell you if the coach has run off players, been downgrading them or what. I can tell you that the games i've seen, she has coach until the final horn even down 20. As I stated earlier, they have more talent this year than the past couple of years and I know some of it is young. But, being a bottom line kind of guy and the thread being " same ole, same ole", the realism is that their overall talent level is very average for a AAA school. Most parents can't admit this about their kids. Doesn't mean that you can't work hard and improve and strive to be the best you can. Part of parenting is being honest with your kids and not always blaming referees, coaches, other kids jealousies, etc. It's never that my kid missed 4 free throws, 2 layups, can't block out, had 6 turnovers, didn't get that loose ball, etc. It's the coach don't like me, she won't pass the ball, stupid ref, over the back, etc. I do not personally know any WC player, coach, or parent so the last few statements are blanket statements about kids in general. My comments about the kids have always been positive observations and it's always been a "fire the coach" thread. Being in coaching 20 years including 10 in college doesn't make my observations correct, it doesn't matter if no one from WC agrees with anything I've said. My hope is for parents everywhere to approach expectations realistically. As always, good luck to all.
  13. No, she had a big family reunion in Michigan so she's been gone. We've only had her 2 1/2 games due to a soccer injury and she's averaging 21ppg in those games, which she'll do most all games. Also another starter got hurt in the Ensworth game so those 2 have played one half together all year. Everyone goes through it. It's been good for our younger kids but there are growing pains after losing 5 seniors that went to 3 state tourneys. Thanks for asking as they don't make 'em better than Paige. Good luck to you guys.
  14. I was there. Overton's pressing caused early turnovers as WC really has no point guard. But Overton turned it over many times in the first half to make it a close game. In the second half many things contributed to the loss. They missed many free throws, a girl got a technical for slamming the ball down and a player (#31) hurt her knee or leg which hurt them. Also the style of play kept the big girl out of the game. They should do good against Maplewood. WC has some good young talent and they hustle. That's coming from an outsider who's team has played them the last 3 years in these holiday tourneys. This is the most overall talent that I've seen the 3 years. Plus the injured guard would really help out. Good Luck.
  15. Anyone know the girls schedule for Saturday? Times free press doesn't have it yet.
  16. Michael Wilson hands down. He was Doninique Wilkins good over people and in traffic. I coached juco for 10 years and one game he dunked on us 4 trips in a row with no breakaways. In juco we saw many great athletes that just didn't have the grades and he was the best I saw in all 10 years. A nice kid also and it was nice to see him do the globetrotters thing.
  17. Beth Binkley graduated. She was a 6-1 wing that was a great shooter. Missy Donaldson was an assistant but I don't know if she's still there. Bulldog, Ryan had a nice win vs BGA. Against JPII the first one to 20 wins!
  18. I can't say what their emphasis is internally, but they have been good the last few years. They, like all schools have been affected by graduation, players focusing on another sport, etc. They graduated on of the deadliest 3 pt shooters and some role players. They still have one of the best all around guards in Downs and have 2 very capable posts in Mobely and Follansby. Also with the exception of an experienced Ensworth, DII middle is all down so everyone can beat everyone so HH will be in the mix and Ensworth is beatable but the favorite. Health and the dependence on younger kids will tell the story in DII this year. To boot, HH has an excellent coach.
  19. WC could help themselves next weekend in the Gallatin Classic. Portland, Gallatin and JPII all have new coaches and are all rebuilding and playing young kids. Not sure which 2 of these they'll play but could be a chance of 2 wins. Good luck to all
  20. Most would agree that it's tough enough to find someone competent to keep the scorebook, let alone someone who really knows what a true assist or a team rebound is. Most kids can't keep a basic shot chart or turnovers. The coaches know who do the "intangiables" and they are very important to a successful team. We've been fortunate ant JPII to have gone to the state 3 of the last 4 years with no one averaging more than 13.0 ppg while being in the top 10 midstate in all schools for least ppg given up.
  21. This should be on the boys board, but yes it is a tremendous loss for JPII as John is a fantastic coach and a great leader of young men. He will be sorely missed on both fronts as a coach and teacher. He gave his all to help build JPII into what it is and was very loyal to the school until the very end. I know this decision was tough. Good luck to him and it will be hard to replace him so late.
  22. The word today is that coach Spann from Ezell may be the new coach at Goodpasture. Haven't heard officially but pretty reliable. This would be a great get by GP. Maybe he could rebuild it from the ground up as it needs it badly. It's amazing how the circumstances surrounding the departure of the last coach has been kept quiet. Anyway if this happens, it would be great for the returning players and bad for Ezell. Anyone else heard this?
  23. I'm here. JPII led 7-0 after one. Then they went color blind and threw the ball to Ensworth every trip afterward. No offensive continuity. Found it today with a convincing domination of Harpeth Hall. Webb is up 7 at half in championship. JPII goes to ECS friday, who lost to Ryan by 13 and HH by 38, teams JPII beat 4 times this year. Good luck to all.
  24. I've been keeping an eye out for discussions about this game. What a great win for Coach Kendrick. This probably won't help them much in their first round game but will it hurt Station Camp? They were cruising along and thud! I know they played their starters and didn't sit anyone like some do for a last game that's non district. I don't believe in " it's good to get a loss right before tourney time to focus the girls". Coach Kendrick has been a good coach for a long time and I'm happy for them. Station Camp should still breeze through districts unless DCA outworks them or they have a bad shooting night. Thoughts on any effects?
  25. I could be wrong, but if you've moved and have established residence for 6 months you become eligible. Don't know if that happened with Laken but Ginny never moved while playing for Motown. She always lived in Gallatin's zone but chose to go to Westmoreland her freshman year. So when she transferred back into her zone, she had to sit.
