  1. We all appreciate your kind words. Thanks for taking the time to post! 8D
  2. Considering my last 3 series were 719, 672, and 742, I feel as though, if I hadn't gotten the FLU the morning of the sectional, I would have bowled higher than a 595, way higher to be honest... As a matter of fact, if I'd bowled a 237 the first game I'd have beaten Johnny Gillis for a point and our team would have won the total pins for game 1 (making the final score 14.5-12.5 Soddy). However, these things do happen, and Smyrna was lucky that I caught the flu... I'm not going to take away from what Smyrna did to us, because bowling a 3922 is an incredible feat. But if we're honest with each other then we can agree that things could have been different if I was bowling at top condition (or even close to it). Again, congratulations Smyrna. I just felt the need to voice my opinion...
  3. yeah, Bradley Central is a great team, talent-wise and sportsmanship-wise. Congrats on your win LCHS! But I'm gonna warn you, Smyrna is the top contendor. Defeating a team who shot 3818 today is no small achievement, so be ready for them. Good luck to you guys!
  4. I'd like to tip my hat to Smyrna, who defeated Soddy today by the score of 15.5 - 11.5. This was the most intense and by far the all around best match of our season, and I'm proud of the work they've done to be as good as they are. This was Soddy's best match of the season scoring-wise, and Smyrna simply bowled better than we did. SCORES: Smyrna: Brandon Barnes 266, 248, 227 (741), Eric Anderson 266, 213, 184 (663), Johnny Gillis 201, 200, 192 (593), Chris Gillis 233, 214, 208 (655), Steven Witherspoon 216, 213 (429), Josh Newell 185, John Collier 193 258, 205 (656). Team scores: 1356, 1343, 1223 for 3922. I'd like to thank Johnathan Collier for almost supplying us with a 7-10 conversion in the 5th frame of Game 3, too. He smacked the 10 out of the curtain and rolled it right in front of the 7 pin. I'd have rather seen him make it! haha /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Soddy: Matt Lyon 256, 258, 197 (711), Cody Hunter 238, 217, 225 (680), Kaleb Langston 255, 194, 215 (664), Allyn Pickett 182, 200, 225 (607), Scott Demirjian 192, 202, 201 (595) Joseph Leffew 227, and Wesley Williams with 189 and 145. Team scores: 1312, 1216, 1290 for 3818. I'll mention that Matt Lyon and Johnathan Collier tied the 2nd game at 258, for those wondering where the half point came from. Overall, Soddy just got beat, but at least we put up a fight. Congrats Smyrna, and good luck. P.S. This is a good example of why complaining about "house advantage" is no arguement at all. Smyrna came to our house and bowled better than we did, so if someone's going to beat them for state, you've gotta beat them at their house. OTHER STATS: Smyrna: 33/40 single pins (82.5%) 12/18 Multi-pins (66.67%) 2/15 splits (13.33%) 131/206 strike possibilities (63.59%) Soddy: 25/30 single pins (83.33%) 22/26 multi-pins (84.62%) 0/22 splits (do I really need to put a 0% here??) 123/204 strike possibilities (60.29%)
  5. Maybe Soddy can finally pull out a 3900 tomorrow... i sure hope so! /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> good luck everyone!
  6. Good luck to all teams who've proceeded to the sectional matches! Our sectional is tomorrow at Holiday Bowl Hixson at 2:00 P.M. and we're bowling Smyrna. I hope everyone who has to drive gets to their destinations safely, and I hope that everyone bowls well! And please wish us good luck... We'll need it against this top-notch Smyrna team. Give us updates and info on your sectional matches too! Good luck everyone! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  7. We're just analyzing some stats... In no way did we try to make it seem like we're invincible... Our team prides itself on good sportsmanship, and we have ALL the respect in the world for your team, so please don't think we're talking trash... Just trying to get some inspiration for Monday man. And we wish you guys the best of luck.
  8. hey Matt, we made 31/34 single pins today. That's 91.18% single pin conversions. Also, we made 24/31 multi-pin spares. That makes 77.42% of those, resulting in 84.62% easy-spare conversions. We left 13 splits, and only 1 was converted, but we got the highest count on 9 of them, low count on 2 of them, and no count on only 1 of them. So we did well overall with spare shooting. We really need to keep those stats up.
  9. That's a great idea Matt. Spectacular actually! We did shoot that 3706 against Bradley Central, but that was with a 141, another 141, a 175, and a 180. Who knows, we might've shot better than that, but there was no need to keep all the starters in during the last game. We'll just have to give 110% and see what happens.
  10. I'm sure they could do without your weak 190 games! HAHA! nah, i'm just kidding. Matt shot 705 in league that morning, but his back started killing him during our team practice. If he'd shot 705 instead of the 601 that existed in his spot, we'd have shot a 3930. Take it or leave it. Heck, I'll take it.
  11. Today Soddy practiced for our sectional match on Monday. Considering we were bowling on lanes that had previously been bowled on by little kids (meaning spottyness and carrydown in weird places) we did quite well. As a team, we came together and meshed well. No one really bowled incredibly well by themselves, but we worked as a team to shoot well. Our games were 1288, 1289, and 1249 for a grand total of 3826. This set was led by Allyn Pickett with 251, 254, and 192 (697), Scott Demirjian with 216, 235, and 232 (683), Kaleb Langston with 231, 204, and 220 (655), Cody Hunter with 208, 181, and 214 (603), Wesley Williams with 187, 223, and 177 (587), Joseph Leffew with a 214, and Matt Lyon with 195 and 192. If Matt had been bowling well, we might have shot 3900+. Oh well. We kicked him off the team. He won't be holding us back anymore.
  12. I'm just wondering, but what were the lanes like in your match against Smyrna? I would imagine they were tough since neither team averaged 200 per bowler. Carry down, spottyness, head breakdown?? What caused the low scoring?
  13. Drive safely /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  14. Well daaaaaang... Congrats Nashville Overton! Those are some mighty fine scores y'all shot there! And congrats on the near 800 for Markus Betts, and the 757 for Jeffrey Fernandez /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> I wish our team could pull together like that occasionally. That is an awesome final of 3867, and Wilson Central definitely fought back hard with their 3722! Good bowling for both teams, and good luck in your sectionals! And please... PLEASE wish Soddy good luck against a super-talented Smyrna team... They're facing us in the sectional, and they're out for blood. Haha /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> Good luck to everyone!
  15. Good luck to everyone in the upcoming tournaments! /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  16. I posted the results of our regional on another topic, Tournament Results, but I'll just note that Soddy shot rather well today with an average of 204.3 per bowler. We shot 3649 and 3706 to win 1st place in the regional tournament. Good luck to everyone, and let us know how you did /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  17. Yes, Soddy boys were the Region 3 Champs, while Bradley Central was the runner up. The pinfall in the first match was Soddy [(3649) (21)] winning against a very good Walker Valley team [(3305) (6)]. Walker Valley has 4 very good, disciplined bowlers and 2 or 3 others who will be very good with practice. They just got a little unlucky, and we happened to carry some much needed strikes. Kudos to Walker Valley, and good luck next year guys. Highlights for this match for Walker Valley were Matt Wagner with 216, Shelby Rummel with 234 and 235 back-to-back, and there were a few other good 200+ games also. Soddy's highlights were Matt Lyon with 247, 201, 242 (690), Scott Demirjian with 246, 218, 208 (672), Joseph Leffew with a 244 game, Allyn Pickett with a 612 series and 235 game, and Kaleb Langston with 215. Our game scores were 1263, 1099, and 1287. Soddy was winning 6-2 after game 1, 10-6 after game 2, and won total by 344 pins. The pinfall in the second match was Soddy [(3706) (18)] winning against a talented and well-composed Bradley Central team [(3515) (9)]. Bradley Central had very good sportsmanship too, being that they were undefeated 13-0 and lost for the first time this season shaking our hands and congratulating us all the way. The highlights for Bradley Central were Robby Williams with 234, 233, 213 (680), Isaac Joy with 225, Chuck Torbett with 208 and 223, Adam Bender with 212 and 223, Coty Rymer with 202, and Cody Ledford with 210. Soddy's highlights came from Cody Hunter with a 215 and a 180, Allyn Pickett with 218, 247, 194 (659) Kaleb Langston with a 222, Matt Lyon with 205, 257, 200 (662), Scott Demirjian with 279, 228, 235 (742), and Wesley Williams with 194 his first game. We had 2620 at the turn, and if we'd left all our starters in instead of just 4 of them, we'd have probably shot about 3870 (just an edumacated guess). Our game scores were 1331, 1289, and 1086. Soddy was winning 7-1 after game 1, 13-3 after game 2, and won total pins 189. Good luck to all teams in the tournaments, and let us know how you did too! /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  18. I would just like to throw out a congrats to Matt Lyon for shooting a 789 today at Tri-State lanes. His games were 279, 267, and 243. Soddy's team shot well again today in practice hitting about 1260-1290 each game. Our regional will be on 1/21/09, and I'll post the results of it afterward. Good luck to everyone!!
  19. TEAM STATE TOURNAMENT: BOYS 2002 - Hendersonville 2003 - Hendersonville 2004 - Hendersonville 2005 - Smyrna 2006 - Smyrna 2007 - Hixson 2008 - Columbia Central With this info, one would have to assume that it is somewhat of an advantage for teams from the Smyrna area. However, in my opinion, the only advantage they have is that they don't have to travel and stay at a hotel to attend the tournaments (which, in all honesty, is quite convenient). When it comes to the bowling aspect of the tournament, they don't have a better chance of rolling high scores than anyone else. Hixson proved it and so did Columbia Central. The most amazing memory I have about the state tournament was back in 2007, when Hixson was bowling against White Station in the semi-final. White Station hammered out a 3937 against Hixson! Hixson could have gone home that day complaining about some reason why they lost, but they refused to lose. They fired right back with a 3946 and won the match 16-11. That's what defines a champion... They didn't worry about house advantages, not that White Station had one in the first place. Their hearts were there to bowl, just like Smyrna in 05 and 06, Hendersonville in 02, 03, and 04, and Columbia Central last year. INDIVIDUAL STATE TOURNAMENT: CRITERIA: 1) Bowler must have bowled in at least 2/3 of the total games in the regular season. 2) The top 3 averages in each district (who meet rule 1) will be allowed into the tournament. 3) The remaining 18 spots will go to the residual bowlers in the state (who meet rule 1) with the highest 18 averages. Who thinks this would work better? It would represent the top bowlers from each district while still being fair to others who weren't top in the district but still had a high average.
  20. If Wilson shot 1404 the first game and 1285 the second, I'm assuming that, with 1060 their last game, they put in their substitutes because the match was already in hand. If they'd left in their starters, just think what they'd have shot... Congrats Wilson Central! Good luck to you guys in the tournaments!
  21. yes, Matt is quite the dominator, he is. haha:) congrats on #1 Matt, and congrats to everyone else who made it into the individual tournament! Adam Ebbeling was in 2nd, and I think Neck Clevers was in 3rd. Good luck guys /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  22. ain't that the truth... if all 6 bowlers hit at the same time, we're nearly untouchable. However, if we have an average game, we could end up getting beat, and if no one hits then we're completely out of luck... It just so happens that we've all been firing quite well lately, so don't get the misconception that this is common for us. Haha. Good luck to you Siegel and keep us posted on practice games and tourney scores, etc. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  23. Congrats to Chase! And Congrats and good luck to Wilson Central on their good season /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  24. Congratulations Columbia Central and Lawrence County! And Congrats to Aaron Davidson for his giant 750 series and 289 game! That's fantastic guys, keep it up! And from the guys of Soddy Daisy, good luck at Smyrna next week /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> And good luck to Lawrence County as well!
  25. Not only did we have a good practice yesterday, we followed it up with an even better one today. Our first game, as always, was a warm up and a few corner pin shots to loosen up, followed by finding a strike line the last few frames. Then, we shot the best single game we've shot all season with a 1373. Leading the team in this game were Kaleb Langston with a 245, Wesley Williams with 251, Cody Hunter with 220, Scott Demirjian with 258, and Allyn Pickett with 226. Matt, in trying to save his balls' coverstocks for the tournaments, bowled a 173 because the particular ball he was using kept falling off his hand. However, he picked up his Cell the next game and shot a 245, where our team total was 1260. In our last 4 practice games, our six starters have shot 1230, 1329, 1373, and 1260 for a grand total of 5192, and an average of 216.3 per bowler. Although these scores don't contest with what Smyrna has accomplished this year, I'm still proud of our hard-working team... All the guys do their best to bowl well, and we also do our best to keep good attitudes on the lanes as well. We might not win state this year, we might not even make it to state, but we've certainly got heart that can't be matched... And we're going to give it everything we've got to succeed /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Anyway, how have Smyrna and Siegel been doing lately? Columbia Central? How about Greenville and Dobyns Bennett? Hendersonville, Hardin county, White Station?? Give some info guys!! Haha. Just curious to see how people are doing /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
