  1. To those of you who have made comments about our non-starters, shame on you! This is a team in every definition of the word! Each one of the Rebels contributed EVERY STEP OF THE WAY to each win! I love and respect each one of them for their dedication and helping each day in practice to improve our teams performance. To those of you who do not understand this...don't bother to tell me you are a rebel fan or for that matter do you know much about football or playing a team sport! To those of you who have complained about playing time may I remind you that this is a sport and it is by definition a very competitive sport. Like all sports the objective is to win therefore utilizing your best performers is obvious, right? I would concur with Compusat in regards to a strong work ethic and his example of Steven Hopkins who's legacy IS the definition of dedication. Furthermore, if you are looking for a venue for your athlete to acquire more skill, strength, and build sheer muscle mass I would suggest wrestling. SSHS has a great wrestling program with daily practices off season that is well suited to develop linemen, running backs, linebackers or virtually any position. One other feature of this sport that should appeal to those of you looking for you child to have a starring role is that EVERYONE wrestles and has their 2 minutes on the mat matched with someone in their weight group. To those of you who have complained about the pigskin parents my question is, where were you? Did you blow up the tunnel and take it down at home games? Did you help with directing parking, setting up the pilons pre game take them down post game? Did you sell rebel apparell before, during games or on Fridays during the school day? Did you help to prepare, serve, pick up the pregame meal? Did you order/pick up and set up food in our press boxes for news media/referees/coaches during home games? Did you offer your expertise in painting the football field on Wednesday nights prior to home games? Did you help lay the new flooring for the weight room? Were you a part of the work teams who painted and provided general maintenance to our Carl Matherly stadium? Let me guess???....Yeah, I thought NOT! Now, concerning MY rebels, they are awesome and I love them every one! They suffered a horrific loss this year loosing a most special young man who they loved and respected. This team had to keep playing ball week after week with little time to morn their friend and if you think that is easy you obviously have never lost a loved one or friend. Suffice to say, this 09 team was made up of some very strong individuals who as a team were able to pull through adversity like NO team at south has ever had to endure! As individuals this team is composed of athletes who excell in academics as well as other sports including; basketball, baseball, wrestling, track. Additionally, the talent of these boys is amazing with several involved with musical theatre (and to those who missed Oklahoma! you missed a heck of a musical that starred several players as characters and or production behind the scenes!) Several still are involved in band and choir, others are talented in art, graphic arts, languages, and clubs. I am proud of our talented rebels! These boys will be successful on and off the field! In 28 years South has had a number of football coaches. Fond memories of many! South has proven success under each with a winning tradition that continues to this day. What some of you seem to have forgotten is that this is high school football, these are young men, this is their time! Let them enjoy, cheer them on, and support them in any way you can. GO REBELS!
  2. Awesome game last night Rebels!! You were men among boys! Beedle your strength and leadership on the field was a testiment to the fine young man you are! Spin Dr, once again you defined the term "skilled position"! What was most impressive is the TEAM effort going on out there! Seeing these younger players stepping up and learning from the veterans is what it is all about! Thursday night the Freshman were at JFred and lost a heck of a ball game in overtime and it meant alot to those boys to see many of our Varsity team members in the stands supporting them. This is why the winning tradition continues here at South! Now about next Friday night against Greeneville, first of all get to Death Valley early to get a seat! I imagine the stands will be at capacity and when the whistle blows I believe it will be all South! Caution here though because you need to come out ready to fight and plan to keep it up the entire game. Sorry about Zack last night and I sure hope there are no injuries on either side this week. Go Rebs!
  3. Kudos to Beedle both father and son! Hunter is a great kid and this rebel mom is wishing him another great season. Other than Hunter, who else will be playing on the O/D line this year? Everyone knows that it all starts on the line but I haven't heard anything about it, lets hear it.... Go Rebels!!
  4. It has taken me most of the day to recover from last night and decided to sign on and write a response to this thread. I was in Death Valley when the very first touchdown was scored by Mike Cook in 1981 and I have been a Sullivan South Rebel fan ever since. Over the years we have produced some great teams with many players going on to play at the next level. We also saw some lean years when the program was effectively forfeited. Then came Coach Carter and his staff who from the beginning have been focused on a well organized and diciplined program like that of the 80's teams. The past 4 years have provided a phenominal turn around for this program! We all owe this man and his staff a great deal of respect for what they have accomplished! As far as the boys (the team, as a mom I still look at them as boys), they came together and have worked very hard to have made it to last nights game. I have had the opportunity to watch many of the seniors play together since 4th grade, having seemingly endless undefeated seasons, and winning championships. In addition, I have witnessed these young men become MEN with roots in their community, their churches, solid in academics, not to mention polite/humble atheletes. My husband and I have had made some of the best friends you could ask for during these years and enjoyed cheering the team on together! For the memories, the thrill of the game, the excellence you have displayed on and off the field, thank you to the Class of 2008! To all of those who will play at the next level we will continue to support you! This next part is to the football mom's out there. Most of us have already witnessed our son's completing another rite of passage as they walked off the football field for this was the last time that they would ever play high school football and the last time that we would be able to cheer them on. As the tears rolled down my face last night it wasn't because of the loss as I know that each member of the team had played their all throughout the season, but instead because it was the end of a WONDERFUL ride! To the mom's who haven't faced this yet, win or loose next week you will. And to those mom's who are already there, you understand what I am saying. So to end this; To the SSHS Rebel underclassmen, you have the ability to continue with the standard that has been placed before you and I have no doubt you will! Continue in this tradition of excellence and be nice to my youngest who will begin this journey next year. This Rebel mom wishes you the BEST! To the class of 2008 remember; the Thursday night suppers provided at local churches throughout the season and the meaningful messages from their clergy; Friday morning breakfasts with Haynie and crew; Friday morning parades down Moreland; senior players dance during pep ralley;pre-game meals; Rebel camp; bon fire parties; the friendships you made; and the cheer of a supportive crowd... YOU WILL BE MISSED!! To the momma's out there, enjoy the ride and make every effort to participate in some way to support and encourage your son's. And lastly, to the senior mom's this is my last load of nasty sweat drenched uniforms to wash, no more ironing the khaki pants and white shirt for away games, no more pregame meals, no more, no more, no more..and graduation looming ever nearer...I'll be thinking of all of you and your husbands too! Good luck next week Rebels! (I had to say it one last time!) and Morgan Edwards, We love you!!!
