  1. The issue with the Alumni game in preseason. The interpretation of the rule given to Seymour by Gene Menees TSSAA assistant directer, is that Alumni games can be played only during the regular season and they do count as one of the 16 regular season games. The reason is scrimmaging any team other than a legitimate high school team in the preseason is forbidden. TSSAA does not want High School Teams scrimmaging club teams or adult league teams. Ref was not completely accurate in saying after the season is ok, because I think that would violate the rules as well. What Seymour did last year was invite Alumni as well as the middle school team to come to the local AYSO park and we had some "pickup games" and a "covered dish" picnic. Coach Norwood played on the Alumni so he was not coaching (wasn't playing very good either, had a hard time keeping up with the kids.) After the games we presented our team awards. It was a great community event and a lot of people in Seymour associated with soccer were able to get together and enjoy the games. We hope to do it again this year. Larry Scalf was generous in donating his time to ref and keep everyone in line. If you know Larry, you know that everything stayed calm! BTW I have seen several posters refer to the seniors Seymour graduated last as Carlos, Spenser and the keeper. This bothers me: the keeper is Garrett Becker and he is one of the best PEOPLE (not just soccer player or high school student) you would ever want to meet. He was recognized as second team prepxtra last year by the knoxville newsentinal which is an amazing accomplishment considering all the great teams and players in knoxville, and He greatly deserved it. He was also voted District Keeper of the year by the district coaches. He is currently attending ETSU on academic scholarship. Just wanted to throw that out there.

  3. I called TSSAA and asked the same question and the lady told me the formula as stated above and from the area we traveled she said last year it worked out to $2.48 per player! She said the average check was around $178. WOW!
  4. Unfortunately, I was at home with a virus and unable to go to the game today. I have to say I feel as bad as akula looks! First half 6 yellows handed out to both teams, Pigeon Forge up 1-0 at the half. Seymour's goals came in the final 20-minutes Lacey Vassallo#2 had 1 Courtney Suttles #17 had the other two, one on a free kick that Coach Norwood said was as pretty a goal as he has seen this year. Needless to say we are all very excited.
  5. These were two evenly matched teams and one injury did not determine the outcome.

  10. Seymour has been to the semifinals 3 times under Householder, once in the 80s and the two times losing to state champion Portland I think 99-00. Seymour also had a long winning streak against Fulton, playing them in the regular season every year for 4 or 5 years and in the playoffs each year. You cannot question the success that Householder had had in 30 something years coaching at Seymour.
  11. Dont blame me i put in for a 3 man crew. You would think on a monday night we could have 3? I heard the Refs didn't like your hair color and refused to show up?
  12. According to my AD, you are allowed to play in one jamboree each preseason but it does not count against your scrimmage total. TSSAA definitions: Scrimmage--2 teams playing a full game, Playdate(not the official TSSAA term) playing multiple teams on the same date, this counts as two scrimmages Jamboree--allowed in one per season, two 20-minute periods only and does not count against scrimmage totals. Jamborees are defined on the TSSAA website and must meet certain requirements. I may be mistaken on this but I know I have seen this information on TSSAA.org and my Athletic Director (who has been doing this since 1982) explained how it works.

  15. The game last night against Carter was as exciting as any I have ever been involved in. The atmosphere was fantastic with a good crowd, the two teams both brought their A game. Heroics on both sides of the ball as different players stepped up and made big plays. I appreciate what Coach Chunn said about Seymour's Keeper, Garrett Becker, He played an outstanding game, with several big saves. Just an outstanding and exciting High School Soccer Game, It is one of those games which neither team deserves to lose. Congratulations to Carter on a great Season. It seems like every time Seymour plays Carter or Alcoa it is a close exiting game. 21. There are some good coaches guiding those powerhouse teams, that is also a factor in Knoxville being a hotbed right now. BigG demonstrated why CAK has won 5 in a row, you can't take anyone for granted, you must play with a sense of urgency at all times. I know he will have his team ready at tournament time, and he better the teams behind CAK and Catholic in their district are good and can sneak up on them if the boys aren't ready. I believe one of the previous posts made an accurate point, until someone knocks them off, the big four in west Knoxville have to be the favorites. Bearden, Farragut, Catholic and CAK.
