    7-AA

LA swept Cannon in a Tuesday night doubleheader 16-6 and 7-6. We finish up our district schedule next week with 2 games against Dekalb.
  2. I seem to be hearing alot of umpires making excuses for other umpires. We play in District 7AA and I would say that the umpiring is inconsistent at best which usually revoles around the strike zone. Each umpire seems to feel the strike zone is his personally to call as he sees fit instead of what the rule book says. I have heard umpires comment that they like to see pitches at one point of the zone or the other. Or they will say they are pitchers umpires or hitters umpires. This is not calling the zone by the rule book. In the years that I coached one of the first things I tried to do was figure out where the umps were calling pitches that night and adjust accordingly. If their calling them at your ankles you have to protect there. If we had a uniform strike zone that was inforced this would not be nececery. I hope to live to see a day when technology will eliminte the need for umpires to call balls and strikes. Until that day I guess we'll just have to put up with what we have.

I'm not exactly sure what everyone's record is in the district. LA were swept by UHS & Macon and spilt with York and split with Smith last night in a doubleheader. I'm assuming that Upperman is leading the district. LA has played well at times but have often found ways to lose. Our bats are starting to heat up and hopefully this will continue as we finish out the season. To be honest I haven't seen any team that I would say are dominant, usually it comes down to fundamentals and finishing ball games.
  4. WE have lost 2 games to Macon CO. on Mon. & Tues. We lost on Mon. 8-2 despite out hitting them 12-9. We lost on tues. 13-4 despite coming back and tying the game 4-4 at the end of 5. At this point I don't see anything that we are doing consistenly well. Hitting, defense, pitching, and baserunning are all poor at best. Coach Swallows will have some tough decisions to make in regards to line up and position changes. We play jackson Co. on Friday and should get a win but at this point who knows. We play Upperman next Mon. & Tues. and they are a real ballteam and we have to play our best baseball to have a chance to beat them.
  5. Not good at all. Lost both games for some reason we just aren't hitting the baseball right now. We only manged to have two hits last night against Sparta, no one has walked in either game we are not getting good pitches to hit. Pitchers are struggling to throw strikes. At present we just aren't clicking in any phases of the game. But it's still early in the season I know there are too many good hitters on this team for this to continue. We need to turn it around quickly because we start district play next week.
  6. No need to worry about #7 arm injury is not serious he will be in the lineup and back on the mound within a couple of weeks. Young players will need to step up and take advantage of the playing opportunity. The season begins Monday 3-9 @ home against Monterey. Let's support this team.
  7. That would be my response as well. LA returns 4 seniors and the rest of the positions will be up for grabs. I was at an intersquad scrimage friday, we looked good in spots but still need alot of work. I'll be posting all of the LA scores from games this year on Coach T. Come out and see us play I promise we'll win more than one game.
  8. According to TBCA team previews Dekalb lost 6 seniors, 4 starting pitchers, and only return one senior. This is why I had them rated a little lower. Like LA for them to be successful some of their young players will need to step up. Yes, I think teams can get on the field this week. The season is only 4 weeks away.
  9. I dont' know that I would put either York or Dekalb over LA @ this point. Dekalb only returns 1 starting pitcher and they graduated 7 or 8 starters. York has never lived up to their talent but this year may be different. I didn't realize that Macon brought back so many. We split with them last year but they were tough fought games.
  10. It would be diffcult to say where LA might finish this year. Our biggest obstacle will be if some our young players can step up and play in key spots. We only have 4 returning seniors, so we have a lot of holes to fill. I went to practice today to watch the pithers throw and came away fairly impressed we'll see how they do in game situations. Unfortunely, basketball is the big sport right now at LA and alot of kids that used to play baseball only play basketball in HS. That being said I think we should be able to play with anyone if we play up to our ablilty. I just want to see some warmer weather so we can play some ball.
  11. As a totally biased LA fan I would say we should be compettive if some of our young plays step up. We only have four seniors on the team. In my opinion Upperman will be the team to beat this year. They were very tough last year and the return almost everyone. However, I remember last year when Dekalb seemed to be the sexy pick to win the district but it didn't work out that way. I look forward to an exciting year. Let's play some ball.
  12. LA beat Macon 3-1 in a very tough ballgame. JR Allen Bilbrey went 7 innings and Soph. Shawn Walthall hit a HR. We play again tonight should be a good game.
  13. LA lost to York last night 4-2 in an embarassing display of execution and poor baserunning. Hopefully we will rebound tonight when we play them at home.
  14. This is not true. LA subbed everyone of thier plays in the third inning except two seniors. Not ot mention the player that was trying to lay down a bunt with a 13 run lead. LA was soundly beaten there is no disputing that but these are the kind of things that lead guys getting hit with the ball because one team doesn't understand the meaning of sportsmanship and is trying to humilate another team. IT's over and done with but I would say that this loss will not long be forgotten by LA or their fans.
