Obvious question----was there only 1 ref at this game? Seen many games where 1 ref seemed biased, but usually evened out with the other 2.

dyer county would have lost by 20+ to ridgeway...fact...dyer co struggled to beat westview fact...not a very good team at all...dyer co barely got by bolivar central in a serious down year for the tigers fact..

FACT: They are in the state semi-finals tomorrow. As they say, jus' sayin'

westtnman- I didn't start the disgrace thread I just agreed with what was said about the refs. It was a great atmosphere but I just didn't like how the refs missed calls down the stretch.

Fair enough. Been there and understand the disappointment of a big game loss. If game had ended up the other way, sure TCA fans would not be happy about refs either. Thanks to both teams for an entertaining night.

Lake - I posted on your "it's a disgrace" thread you started. I went to see a good game and did not care who won, but I did not see the refs changing this game. I thought BTW got some calls in first half and can remember one where I thought TCA got call in 4th quarter. Overall, I thought it was a well called game. Tough loss for BTW - congrats to TCA. It was a great game and great atmosphere for a high school game.

I have seen you post this on two different sites. I too attended the game as an unbiased outside observer because of the hype of this game. Did officials make mistakes --- yes. Did I think they were slanted to TCA----absolutely not. Would be interested in specific calls you are talking about that "tarnished the game". At one point in the game the fouls were 7-2 in favor of BTW. I thought refs took Hall kid out of game with 2nd foul in first quarter that was questionable. I do remember one call in 4th quarter that I thought foul should have been called on TCA and they ended up getting ball out of bounds - that was the only questionable call I can remember. The charge at the end of the game was definitely a charge and should be called if first play in first quarter or last play of the game.

I agree it was a great game with two great teams but these rants about BTW not having the same "chance" to win as TCA----I did not see other than the fan base....I do think playing at home in front of that crowd was a definite advantage.

I know that it was a disappointing loss to BTW but would love to hear your specifics as to when the officials threw the game.

Sounds like USJ QB Garner got hurt in first quarter and DCA giving USJ all they want and then some

Why in the world are these two divisions not separated, anyway? Just name the top 5 in each division. Every other division is separated - can you imagine trying to rank 1A-3A in the same poll and make sense of it.

I challenge you all to do something - print off your posts and in 5 years when your child has graduated and gone, re-read what you have written. You will have an entirely new perspective on this after being away from it for a few years - these are summer camps people ! When I grew up, parents were not allowed to even attend camps as they were used as teaching tools....games would stop, coaches would come on floor, line kids up to tell them how/why they ran the play wrong, and TEACH them how to run it correctly.

It may be time to go back that route. I will agree that the refs have been allowed to go downhill over the last few years - there are some exceptions, but the majority of them never cross half court and sometimes never get past the opposite court free throw line---and I want even go to the texting while "calling" the game.

Kids deserve better - FROM ALL OF US.

Congratulations to Davidson and USJ on great seasons and a great championship (from the parts I was able to see yesterday). Just saw the clip of the end of the game - wish the USJ coach had as much class as the players did in victory....I don't know or care what happened before this during the game or after Friday's game (as aluded to in the Jackson Sun this morning) but this was a horrible example to set for the kids and just hate that it took away from the girls' hard fought victory.

Obviously a hard pill to swallow for Davidson players and parents, but one day they will realize all that they accomplished this year - congratulations ! To be playing the last inning of the last game of the year is a big deal.

USJ knocks off DA 3-0 ....DA and DCA square off, "showdown", whatever you want to call it at 5 p.m. to earn the right to play USJ in the championship game. USJ in the Drivers Seat with Win, but anything can happen.

Little good natured ribbing, woody----you and coachcap seem ok----congrats to all 4 teams that made it to State, quite an accomplishment by any measure. Good luck the rest of the way.

Was more like a decision than a win. I hate umpires deciding wins but in close games one side always feels slighted. DCA was playing with nerves in their first ever appearance, but still kept it close squandering a couple real oportunities to win. DCA continued on to knock off the defending state champs 11-3 and will likely be looking forward to the rematch. DA is playing with passion right now and have all the pieces. USJ will be hard pressed to beat them. But then, that is why we play the game...

One of them will get the opportunity for a rematch....after the "showdown" predicted.

Savannah Hill gets 18 strike outs in game 1 of the state championship and Davidson Academy wins 12-0. Look's like a showdown of DCA and DA in the Championship game...Go Lady Bears!

They already set the championship game? I was under the understanding that they would at least play the other games that were scheduled.

Just a comment after reading a few pages of this thread.

Congratulations to the kids on both teams for making it to the final four of the state. From the game I watched, both teams players showed a lot of class, played hard, and should be commended.

The majority of these post on this thread are well......not at the same level.

Not trying to get anything started here, but the resounding theme seems to be how well LC is coached. Although they certainly play as a well coached team, at times watching these games on line, it seems as if the players aren't really paying any attention to her during the time-outs? I also remember listening to a couple of radio broadcast during region play where the announcers made the same comment. Anyone know if this is ever a problem?

You probably did get something started. I heard this radio broadcast that you are referring to. If you remember, about 2 minutes after that statement the ensuing statement was something like "Oh, NOW she has their attention - she is making sure of it" The woman wins a state championship her first year of coaching and is in the semi's her next year with a great chance of winning two in a row.....my "guess" would be that they have to be listening to their coach just a little......

Lake County hit a 60+ (probably) foot shot to send to overtime and won. Does anyone have a Youtube video of that shot?

What a game !!!! Congrats to both teams - this is one that you hate to see anyone lose.

There are only 8 teams left and to win it all, you have to beat them all. My high school team went in seeded # 1 in state, beat # 3 in first round, # 2 in semi's, and # 4 in finals....the semi's was basically the championship and the championship was the easiest game of the week....BUT, we came in # 1 and left # 1 with all doubt erased, which was pretty sweet.

Congratulations TCA Lions on an outstanding season. Memphis Northside, Memphis Westwood, Booker T, Lake County - no one gave you a shot at staying in any of these games. The only non believers now are the ones that did not see you play.

You played hard with a lot of class and a tremendous amount of heart.

The floater in overtime with 3 seconds left was not a charge. And it was the same ref calling all the charges

it's the Suiter magic BABY!! Now UC has a legit chance to advance to the state Tournament as Coach Suiter could take his 2nd Obion County to da BORO (as head coach of the OC Lady Rebels, Coach Suiter's team advance to the 2A state tourney in his First year in Troy back in 2005) As a So. Fair is a legit D-1 prospect and continues to get better each and every game.. Others have stepped up for UC!

 

I look for BOTH Region 7A teams advancing as Lake County can win on the road and will be very focused after losing their first game to 1A team this season.

A veteran team led by Miss Basketball Finalist T.T.Flowers should be okay and punch the ticket for da BORO next week..
