  1. Not a knock on Coach Paschall, he is a good guy. But a key reason for Bradford's success over the past 5 years has been talent (Proudfit, Oliver, Tubbs, Wallsmith and others).

Funny how there was no talent in Bradford before David Russell, then there was an abundance of talent for what, 15 years until he left. (And please do not insert anything any here about Wild and winning the state - the janitor could have taken that team to state, which was Russell's) There was no talent there for a few years, and then it reappears magically when Paschall takes over ???? Coaching definitely makes a difference. Good luck to whomever it may be.

  2. some school have a different interpretation of "need-based"

It is NOT left up to the individual schools. There is an TSSAA approved outside agency that makes the decision.

(just to repeat what has been posted at least 1,000 times before)

  3. It is just hysterical to me that on every Division II board, it is called "recruiting"

Let it be on a public school board, and it is always "transfers".

Read this board and then flip to the girls basketball board about "transfer" coming into Clarkrange.

This board, it is the unpardonable sin----that board it is "justified"

These are just two that are going on now, but it has been replayed over and over and over

  4. I don't think that the west is that into softball as much as the rest of the state. I would be willing to bet that most of the west tn coaches don't even know about this forum.

I guess Trinity winning back to back state championships in 2006 and 2007 means they are not "in to it? "

I assure you that most coaches know about this forum. We even have internet in West Tennessee !!!!! /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

  5. I've heard that sacrifice crap before. I'm sure some people sacrifice a newer vehicle and vacations , and make it happen , but unless your knocking down more than 40k a year you still couldn't afford it.

It's only crap when you are not the one doing it. However, I do agree with you that it is tough on less than 40K a year.

  6. I thought Private school parents were not wealthy and that most were at or below middle class. What person below middle class could afford to send one kid to any of these schools at those prices let alone 2 or more kids. 10-11k plus other fees ......I make a decent wage and there is no way I could afford to send my child to any of these schools.

This is just further proof to me that ATHLETES recieve special aide , especially some of them at the smaller levels. I would bet my house that some of these kids parents can't afford to send them to private school without some type of assistance .....and I'm sure ALL of them "qualify" for academic assitance.

You might need to start packing. If you will check closely enough, you will see there are parents that are driving cars that are 10 years old, don't go on vacations, and find other ways to save enough money to send their kids to these schools. Yes, there are others that are just wealthy enough to do it, but there are plenty others that make tremendous sacrifices in order to find the money.

  7. Although the '04 Championship team is my personal favorite I would have to say that given this years team's record and how dominant they were that they are the best team CR has ever produced. Coach Rogers said as much in the newspaper. There has only been one other high school team in Tennessee history that has gone 39-0 and that was back in 1966 so the argument for them being the best CR team and possibly the best Class A team in history, is a strong one. They certainly have the best record all time. I don't even think they played 5 on 5 ball back in '66.

Bradford team of 2000 was 36-0 with Miss Basketball 2000, Jessica Henson, Miss Basketball 2001 - Jenny Lannom, and Miss Basketball 2003 Meridith Richardson all on the same team. I would have to throw them in as one of the best in history. I know this is a CR thread and even the mention of someone from 14A has to send shutters to everyone involved, but when you mention only two 39-0 teams in history, think you need to mention 36-0 also.

  8. Not sure that Coach Russell wants to be a head coach again - he likes his role.

Let him stay as assistant, give me all of the returning players GC has, and I could start my coaching career with a bang ! /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

  9. I just heard from some GC lady players that they are also hearing that McMillan is leaving. Does anyone have the facts on this? The freshmen from Gibson/Medina have a choice of where they go next year - knowing if McMillan is staying will determine if some of them stay. I don't agree with that cause I think GCHS is the place to be if you are serious about basketball - at least til the SGHS program has a few years to build into a varsity program. I and many hope there is no truth to these rumors. Coach McMillan has the loyalty of his players and is a great coach. His leaving would be a huge loss for Gibson Co.

It's not like they don't have a pretty good back up in their assistant coach. If he leaves, they won't miss a beat with David Russell.

  10. No - they never shook hands with losing team in finals after the game. Even though losing team made an effort... I was there - saw it.

I would lay that blame at the foot of the coach. These are 15-17 year old girls that were excited to win a State Championship (as well they should be) and in their excitement failed to shake hands. The coach should have stepped in. IMO

  11. Ok... let me see if I can explain all this in a Politically-Correct manner, without stirring up a hornet's nest.

Please forgive this long post, as I try to explain the Bolton High School of old vs the Bolton HS of today.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The place (Arlington, TN) in which Bolton resides used to be a small, country, much less-affluent, close-knit town. It was very similar to the Melrose Community of Orange Mound, both in demograhics and talent pool...especially talent, but NOT the Crime rate (no offense intended). Bolton also was the ONLY High School in the area, whereas several HS surrounded Orange Mound.

Arlington (Eads?) was a tiny, homely town located in a small, rural part of Shelby County--Lots & lots of vacant land, everywhere..........Also lots of older people with good Christian, family values, less-affluent but prideful, and a strong work ethic. It had an extremely low Crime rate. It was a (secretly) great, place to live and raise kids. Again, it was the only High School in that area (Barret's Chappel was the "feeder" school, if my memory is working. They were known for their basketball, too). BASKETBALL was THE sport, in that little town! That's practically all the kids did, after school...... Naturally, all the little kids grew up & aspired to to play "big boys" basketball FOR Bolton.... They did. They dominated.

    The cycle repeated itself.

This was kinda' the same dynamic that persists in the small town of Batesville, Mississippi: Small, less-affluent, close-knit town.... FOOTBALL is the ONLY game in town! That's practically all those kids do....they all grow up wanting to play football for South Panola. They did...... Result: Domination.

    Fast forward to the 90's.....

Crime was continuing to tick up, in Mphs. Many "more-affluent" folks wanted to get out of town, fast!! So, they began an eastward "flight" out of Mphs, towards the "Country/rural" and less inhabited areas of Shelby County. The Home Builders were more than willing to accomodate that demand..... Huge, super-expensive houses began to pop up, all over Shelby County, including the little town that was the home of Bolton High School, Arlington, TN (Eads ?)....The prevailing thought/tactic (though no one has ever admitted it, Publically, to my knowledge) was that this was a "guaranteed" way to insure permanent seperation from the "less-affluent" folks, and the high crime rates of Memphis.

To make a long-story short, they stopped building affordable housing that the "less-affluent" folks could afford... The once "small town" of Arlington had gradually become a HUGE ("rich folks") thriving town, with all the modern-day conveniences of Big-City life, without the associated high Crime Rate.... It was also a radically different demographic than the one that persisted in Bolton's basketball heyday.

Many areas of Shelby County experienced this same paradigm, not just Arlington TN and Bolton High School. Collierville TN and Collierville High School did also...

By the way, Collierville High School won the State Championship (small schools, Class A) in Basketball, back during the 70's, also! They always had a very competitive program, back then. They also finished State Runner-up in football, to Champion Sweetwater (led by dynamic RB Kippy Brown, if my memory is working), during that same era.....Collierville Basketball has not been competitive since the late 70's/early 80's.

    Draw your own conclusions.

As for Batesville, Mississippi and South Panola High School....they have not fallen "victim" (for lack of a better word) to any sort of massive influx of City-slickers (i.e. "more-affluent") that completely changed the face of Shelby County. South Panola still dominates football in Mississippi...

    Draw your own conclusions.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Folks, this is a crude synopsis of Bolton High School then vs now...

    Draw your own conclusions.

I can't help but think as I read this of the current situation in Medina / Jackson area now. Maybe this is a preview of things to come.

  12. What is the difference in a 5th, 6th, 7th grader staying back a year and a 1st grader starting a year late. My humble opinion is, as a parent of 2 adult sons, both graduated when they were 17. One played sports, one did not. I tried to convince my other half, to let them go thru K twice or something, not to start either of them early. As usual she did what she wanted.

When they both started to drive and go off to college, she and they finally understood what I had been saying. My 17 year oldest driving off to college in a large city 5 hours away, with one year of driving experience, not mature enough for college, etc, etc.

youngest same thing , especially in college sports, (red shirt). Just not mature enough.

The largest difference is that in holding back a 5th, 6th, or 7th grader, you know by then if the child is going to be an athlete or not. I held mine back in Pre-K when we had no idea if they were going to be athletic or not. This was a personal choice to not have them graduate at 17, but rather be 18 (going on 19 very soon after graduation) at graduation with more life experience, driving experience, etc. The difference to me is determined if you are holding your child back for purely athletic reasons, which we did not (although, I must say that even then, it was in the back of my mind that that one year athletically could make a difference /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> )

  13. Take a look at this:

    District 13AA

Gibson Co., state champions, returns 3 starters

Westview, state semifinals, returns 4 starters

Obion Central, region semifinals, returns 4 starters

Milan, region quarterfinals, returns top two scorers

    Haywood, region quarterfinals

    Covington, region quarterfinals

Throw in Crockett Co., Dyersburg and Ripley

    District 14AA

Bolivar, state quarterfinals, returns 4 starters

    McNairy Central, region semifinals

    Fayette-Ware, region quarterfinals

    Jackson SS, region quarterfinals

    Liberty, region quarterfinals

Throw in Chester Co., JCM and Lexington

    In this decade:

Five region teams have played for a state championship.

Eight region teams have played in the state tournament.

Ten region teams have played in a sectional game.

14AA is where USJ and Jackson Christian School would have been if not elected to go to Division II. The drive to Memphis for games is not looking too bad right now (and neither one of us have as many transfers as 13AA /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> )

  14. They don't call it Marh Madness for nothing... It will be a great game... The best two teams in the state meet up in the first round.... who would have thought it...

This has happened WAY to much over the years, but think about it, it makes the gate better for a Wednesday game. People will take off work for this game that would have otherwise stayed home until Friday.

Sorry, it just makes me wonder over the years, how blind this draw really is /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

I want to believe otherwise and probably should just keep quite, but hey this is a message board and what message board don't like a little controversy !

  15. Just as I thought.........you need to back up Jack. I haven't said one word about GC or Central until I made those post this morning. Yeah I thought they would be a rebuttal about those post I made but it had nothing to do with Clarkrange beating anyone. So you need to get your facts straight. I have said plenty about GC on the GC and LA thread. And nothing about Central b/c who even cares. No one on any of these threads. I will say this Clarkrange will absolutely destroy Madison this afternoon. And you can put that in yo pipe DHSFB64 and smoke it.

Ok, here's the back up, Jack.

I never said that you said anything, I said "your People"..........here's the back up:

When your people started the smack about CR being able to beat anyone in the universe, it no longer became a thread about just Madison/CR (see page 3 of THIS thread).

Here's the back up to what "your people" said in THIS THREAD:

Clarkrange could win the AA state tournament I believe and may be able to make a run at AAA, who knows?

well there's no way we'll ever find that out so you cant say that for sure but I would place all my bets on Clarkrange in any game, in any classification (A, AA, AAA). They are too deep and every player is a threat so double teaming isn't very productive.

If only there was another tournie consisting of the 3 state champs, which would name the BEST high school team in the state...........but that would be to much of a risk for AA and AAA schools to get beat by a single A team (which could probably be the result with Clarkrange this year).

    And as we say in West Tennessee are the "facts, Jack" /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

I think my "facts" are straight.

(That being said, I think Clarkrange will win today)

  16. I thought this was the Clarkrange vs Madison thread. I don't think no one wants to hear how good Gibson Co. is on this thread. You know you need to be careful.........you could break an arm patting yourself on the back so hard about the GC neers. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />

When your people started the smack about CR being able to beat anyone in the universe, it no longer became a thread about just Madison/CR (see page 3 of THIS thread). When you start saying that you could beat Gibson County, did you really expect that there would not be a rebuttal ????

"you could break an arm patting yourself on the back so hard about the GC neers." You literally made me spit coffee all over my keyboard----are you kidding ???? After this thread and you accuse someone else of patting themselves on the back?????

Good luck to all the teams involved today. I really hope all the girls stay off CoachT and just focus on the game today. They have a tendancy to show much more class on the floor than we do on the message boards.

  17. Clarkrange has already beaten Livingston Academy this year by 19 and Livingston is playing for the State AA Championship tomorrow so yes, CR could certainly win the AA title and compete for the AAA as well. They are an outstanding team and to drop Forrest by 17 and now Oliver Springs by 27 is very impressive. I do not envy the Madison team tomorrow.

Rumor has it after this game, CR is going to Knoxville and donning the Orange and White (instead of Summit's girls) for the National Championship run. From the talk on these boards, they could win Single A, Double A, Triple A, NAIA, NCAA, and Olympic Gold. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

Man, I can't wait to see them play tomorrow if they are all that. I am sure they are a very good team or they would not be where they are or accomplished what they have, but me thinks people are getting a little carried away here.
