  1. Harpeth over Cheatham 14-1 in 5. Drew Johnson gets the win with homeruns by Brown, Johnson, Howell, and Mangrum. DH with Fairview on Monday @ Harpeth.
  2. Harpeth splits double-header with Waverly last night. Harpeth wins the 1st game 2-1 with solid defense; loses the 2nd 10-2 (defense went home early).
  3. Harpeth beat Montgomery Central tonight 17-3 in 5 innnings. It was a solid game overall from Harpeth. Sorry, don't have the stats but Johnson gets the win. MC @ Harpeth tomorrow 7:00
  4. The Indians lost in a tough one tonight. The game was tied 3-3 going into the 7th inning, and Sycamore pulled it out 6-4. Harpeth still had some costly errors (only 2 of the 6 runs were earned), and left 8 runners on base with too many K's. However, tonight looked a lot better overall. Sycamore 6R, 4H, 1E Harpeth 4R, 6H, 5E WP-#2 7IP, 6H, 13K, 2BB, 3HBP, 3ER LP-Brown 1IP, 2H, 2K, 2BB, 1HBP, 2ER ND-Johnson 6IP, 2H, 4K, 2BB, 4HBP, 0ER Harpeth goes down to Savannah, TN for the Courier Classic on Thursday through Saturday.
  5. Harpeth 0R, 2H, 3E Sycamore 10R, 8H, 1E WP #6 5IP, 2H, 6K, 1W, 0ER LP Howell 4 2/3IP, 8H, 4W, 8ER Overall not a pretty game for Harpeth. The errors in the field were down, but the pitching didn't help them out. Howell could not find the strike zone and finish an inning. There were way too many walks (all with 2 outs in the inning), and Sycamore had 4 RBI with two outs too. Not a good outing for Howell. Harpeth did not hit well either. At one point, there were bases loaded with 0 outs and they did not score. They need to still be aggresive, but be smarter at the plate and not swing at balls that are over their heads. Harpeth really needs to put this game behind them and get all 3 phases of the game going instead of just 1 at a time. Sycamore @ Harpeth tomorrow 6:30
  6. The young Harpeth Indians lost in a close one tonight vs MLK 4-3. The game had the excitement of a district game with a big crowd and down to the wire finish. Harpeth still has some kinks to work out but each game is one more game of experience. MLK 4R 6H 1E Harpeth 3R 4H 5E WP Blankenstein 7IP, 4H, 9K, 2W, 2ER LP Howell 5IP, 6H, 5K, 3W, 1ER Johnson 2IP, 0H, 3K, 2W, 0ER Brown 2 2B, 1 1B, 1 RBI Howell 1 2B, 1 RBI McCoy 1 1B, 1 RBI Tomorrow Harpeth vs MLK @ Shelby Park 6:30 JV 4:30
  7. Let the games begin! Harpeth vs MLK 6:30 JV 4:30
  8. For the first scrimmage, I don't think the play by the younger players was bad. They need to learn how to swing the bat more aggresively, but so do all of the players. I do know that Harpeth had way too many strike outs (especially looking). On whether or not the younger players will step up, it's their decision to do it. It will also take the upperclassmen to be a good example and step up as well. It is a new year with new players. Harpeth no longer has the big guns that they had last year. They are not going to hit homers every game, but they will win by out hustling and out thinking the other team in every dimension of the game. Will the young players step up? I think we will know for certain in the next 2 weeks, but I think they will.
  9. Harpeth scrimmaged Esworth in the cold and snow this morning. Great day for baseball! There were a lot of positives and some fine tuning to do. All in all, pretty good for Harpeth's first scrimmage. Harpeth 4 Ensworth 5 Johnson 2 IP, 1 K, 2 H, 1 W, 0 ER Howell 3 IP, 2 K, 1 H, 1 W, 0 ER Mangrum 1 IP, 2 K, 0 H, 0 W, 0 ER Moffatt 1 IP, 1 K, 3 H, 0 W, 2 ER *good pitching -- defense needs more practice on the field Harpeth 4 1B, 2 2B, 3 ER Next scrimmage @ Hampshire Wednesday 4 p.m.
  10. It was a pretty good overall game by Harpeth. They played great defense (it helped that none of Cheatham's shots were falling), and they moved the ball well on offense. I'm looking forward to the same thing next game. And yes, Dixon finally got one down!
  11. What a great day for the year's first practice! We couldn't have asked for better weather! It's baseball time in Tennessee!
  12. Great game at Harpeth tonight, and congratulations to the Indians for pulling out a win! The girls stayed calm down the stretch and made a couple of HUGE threes to tie it up and send it to overtime. Also, congratulations to Sycamore for a great season and the best of luck in the upcoming seasons.
