  1. This is the first I have heard of it. I will research it. I can already see 1 huge can of worms opened up if the rule is as you say it is. If the player can choose where to play as long as the school is with-in a 20 mile radius of their residence. That is going to open up the "Recruiting" debate on any and every player that makes an impact on the field. For ex. In Knox county, I live in a 20 mile range of Bearden, Karns, Hardin Valley, Farragut, Powell, West, Fulton, Central, and possibly Austin East. That is 9 teams a kid could choose to play for. I dont think transfer rules should apply. They player should play where they are zoned to go to school, if they were not home schooled. GOD FORBIDE also. You have a kid that lives deep west or deep south knox county and really knows how to play football. Then ends up at Maryville. Those fans would never hear the end of it.
  2. Let's hope that Blount Co. doesn't get competitive in wrestling. Coacht would crash. '
  3. This is total BS!!!! DEVRIN YOUNG IS THE BEST RUNNING BACK IN THE WORLD. He was robbed, and this is a complete shame. A slap in the face to high school football in TN. Seriously. I had to poke fun of a few bad sports from another thread. Hats off to MR. Mathers. Look forward to following you in the years to come. Congrats and good luck next year.
  4. Well said. If, I had to guess 3 votes for Mr. Young came from east tn, 3 votes for Mr Mathers came from middle tn., 3 coin flips in west tn. I can assure if Mr. Mathers had won. I would not say Mr.Young was robbed. Because they both were deserving of the Mr Football award.
  5. Nice try. I posted about the exact same thing a page 2. I didn't do any good.
  6. Im done..Can't argue this anymore. Good Luck to Mr. Mathers and the rest of the players and coaches of Blackman. I wish you well, cause if you don't do well, I think mass suicides will take place in the bleachers. CRY BABIES
  7. From what you are saying, it sounds like both these backs were in a very similar situation. Beardens passing was non-existent. Go find all the threads Bearden Vs Who-ever, you will see how everyone said Bearden was a one man show. They were right. The only difference I see with me as being a Bearden fan, is that I am giving credit where credit is due. I beleive BOTH backs were deserving. Nobody got robbed. Sorry, they're both great backs. IMO...I'tavious had better tallent around him than Devrin. LIKE I SAID BEFORE, NOT TRYING TO ONE THING AWAY FROM HIM EITHER. I just can't understand how anyone can think somebody got robbed finishing runner-up to a kid with 4.3 speed, 3500plus all purpose yards, and 42 touchdowns in a season(including playoffs) that they got robbed.
  8. You can already go back 3 years and see where people said he was to small to play 6a ball. I think most terms used were, "He will get crushed", "folded in half", and "will be on the sideline injured". If you have time, look it up. I wonder if people said the same thing about Dexter McCluster, David Palmer, and Percy Harvin too?
  9. Let me say this, before I make anymore enemies than I already have. As fans, we will probally never know what all goes into a voters mind with these awards. Just like why some people will ask "Why did you vote for George Bush" or "Why did you vote for Barrack Obama". Who knows what goes through a voters mind. IMO. The Mr. Football award would have been represented to its highest if Mr. Young or Mr. Mathers won it. I just think it is great for Tennessee high school football that we have the chance to debate this. It is about time this state has the tallent to argue about. If Mr. Mathers has a 2011 season like he did this year and does not win it. I will strike the match to burn down what ever the Blackman faithful feels like needs to burn.
  10. I think folks are taking me the wrong way. I agree with you 100%. I feel like both are outsatnding RB's. They both bring great things to the game. I believe Devrin ran for Blackman and Mathers ran for Bearden their stats would still be very similar. This was a hard vote and unfortunatly only one could win.
  11. I don't think any player is being punished for anything. Another factor the voters may have taken into consisderation also. In Devrin's first 5 games, he only play 9 quarters of football. If he had played a full 20 quarters, he would have had games with 500 maybe 600 yards of rushing and finished the year with well over 2000 yards rushing if not at the 3000 yard mark. Along with 60 touchdowns. These post seasons awards (to me) are like a beauty contest. Every Miss America pagent the 2nd place winner could or should have won. But, she is still one HOT women.
  12. I can understand your frustration in this matter. As a Bearden fan, and someone who has a long personal relationship with Devrin Young, I would be disappointed myself. But, as a football fan, I would not think it was a smack in the face to Devrin or a shame if he didn't win. IMO..It really is a coinflip. I would say, grade/class, and Devrin's committment to UT played a factor. Of course we will never know. However, when all the personal feelings are gone and if you are a UT fan, most likely when you watch him on saturdays the next few years, you will see he was deserving. I wish, Mr. Mathers, your son, you, and Blackman the best of luck next season. Like, I said Blackman's O-Line and fullback play their posistions very well. The highlight tape on youtube imo could and should also be a highlight reel of them also. I don't know what all goes into the voting for these awards, but as a ex-lineman myself the "line play" would be a factor in my vote, if I was one of the powers to be. If I had to vote on two outsatnding RB's one with a line that plays very well and another that doesn't and they both put up similar numbers, my vote would go to the one without the line. Another factor, that I would sway my vote would what type of offense each back play out of. Mr. Mathers ran out of a I-formatiom with a little pistol thrown in. Both of these offenses give the back the luxury of running down hill before they get the ball. Just more favorable for backs to rack up yardage. Where Devrin ran out of the spread. As you know, the back is standing still, then has to scan the line and make a decision on where to run. Of course, you could ask 100 different people and get a 100 different answers. Not, trying to hate on Mr. Mathers or up hold Mr. Young. If, I had the chance to be at 5 or 6 Blackman games to see all they had to offer, my opinion would probally be different. Just being honest, not trying to insult or outrage.
  13. I don't know. But I hope Grahm Clark make the tri-cities coach of the year. Just to make the DB faithful mad. The boards have been a little slow.
