  1. No surprise there. Thanks tim.
  2. I never liked going to Lawrence Co. Their student section always had something cooking. Usually there was the fabrication of some sort of homemade noise maker: sometimes gravel-filled milk jugs, and at times KFC buckets. A resourceful lot were they in Lawrenceburg.
  3. Riverdale 47-40 over the Siegel Lady Stars. Just ended. It was 38-38, then RHS took over. Semis on Thurs. OHS vs. RHS Cookeville vs. White Co. Just like old times!
  4. For you historians out there, when did LA last miss the region? It's gotta be 20 years ago or longer!
  5. A streak ended tonight. Coffee Co. girls did not make region for the first time since 1988, my sophomore year of high school. Although they had a lot of first round region exits during those 16 years, that's still an impressive streak, considering how tough our district is. Ironically, the streak ends in one of the weakest years I've seen in this district. Well, congrats to Lawrence Co. I'll be pulling for y'all on Wed., as well as the Falcons!
  6. Where is the district tournament this year in 8AAA?
  7. It's good to know the middle school is doing well. I don't really follow DeKalb as much as West DeKalb Middle, and I know they had a tough year. I had no idea they did that well in the Haile tournament.
  8. According to the sports editor of the Smithville Review, the DeKalb Co. Lady Tigers have now lost 66 consecutive district games, incl. district tournament games over the last 4+ years. Has anyone ever heard of such a streak in high school basketball? I salute the girls going out each game and trying hard, but it's hard to believe that they haven't won a district game in that long. Even really bad teams sneak up on someone every now and then. I hope this generates a discussion.
  9. My sister played on some pretty good teams in Coffee Co., and they practiced a lot. But never did they practice late on a Sunday night.
  10. My wife's cousin starts for them, and I know they are trying hard and don't want to play badly, but they are a really bad team. I just don't know why DeKalb can't get it going. Admittedly, there's not much going on in Smithville to make it a desirable place to locate to, but what's so sexy about Jamestown, Gainesboro, or Livingston? It would take years to get this done, but you'd pretty much have to dismantle the existing middle school and AAU structure and commit to a philosophy with someone who won't abandon the program or get chased out of the county after a few bad years. Maybe that's going on right now, with the right person there, but fundamentally these girls are not there. DeKalb really hasn't had anything since Mary Ann Puckett's team in '93. And, also, the coach needs to let the girls have the night after Christmas off. Just because you're not getting in til 8:00 that night doesn't mean you have to practice them then. It's messing up our Christmas! Do you think it's right to have a Sunday night practice at 8:00?
  11. Where is the Lincoln Co. coach from? Is Bradford's old coach still at Lawrence Co.? I have become disconnected with 8AAA basketball, but still follow it casually. I have some good memories of watching games over the years. I'm always rooting for Coffee Co., and was surprised about the Lincoln Co. game. This could be the best team they've had since they made region in '94. I guess Slick Rick couldn't get recruits in Shelbyville this year. With the economy so bad and all, those jobs just aren't there for the parents like in the past I guess.
  12. I'm a Rutherford County resident and appreciate the competitiveness of Dist. 7AAA, but I have to disagree with the comment that this district is the best in TN. That distinction has to go to some of those Memphis districts. When you go to those district tournaments there, it's a battle in each game. Most of those teams are very evenly matched (except for White Station the last few years) and a basket here or there usually separates the number 1 from the number 4 or 5 team. I lived there for a couple of years when I was in school and got to see some great basketball. I'm slowly making the transition from being an Oakland fan to a Siegel fan, as I'm getting more aligned with the Stars. This year may be the year the conversion is complete, but my heart will always be with my Red Raiders!
  13. I was told there is a 2 game classic at RHS tom. night. I think it's MJ-Columbia and RHS-Shelbyville. It benefits Special Kids, a rehab clinic in M'boro that provides PT, OT, and speech therapies for special needs kids. They try to treat everyone regardless of insurance, so they rely on donations quite a bit. It's a great organization with a great purpose. They've done so much for my son, who is autistic. I didn't know if these are reg. season games.
  14. And all because of your expert play calling.
  15. Go Rutherford Co. schools! Maybe these Dogs are gonna be better than last year!
  16. Doesn't look like the Tribe will need an onside kick to win this one
  17. As I predicted, greater than a 20 point spread. I heard Davidson had a TD receiving, as did someone named West. How many did Nunley have and how many yds rushing?
  18. 35-14 Coffee Co. 2nd Quarter.
  19. It will be a greater than 20 margin of victory. That's what I meant. No sweat for the Red Raiders. How are they gonna stop Nunley? He had over 300 yards rushing against them last year. I'll be looking forward to gloating when I go to the pancake breakfast Sat morning (band fundraiser for Siegel). Siegel: great band, but the football team needs some work. I do root for the Stars. They are the closest school to my house and my boy goes to the elem. school, but gotta go with my alma mater on this one.
  20. It would greatly surprise me if it was less than a 20 point game for the Big Red.
  21. I know Coach Harlow coached FCHS for at least 13 years, maybe more, leaving under a cloud of controversy that his wife was giving the girls prescription medication without going through the proper channels. He left to go to Columbia in '93-'94 or '94-'95, then left there after the '98 state tournament team. He's been at Bradley ever since. He's taken 3 different schools to the state tournament (FCHS in '81 and '88, Columbia in '96 and '98, Bradley in '00). I like his style, even though I've known several FCHS girls that did not like him at all. You can't please everyone, though.
  22. Did they just do it, like winner of sectional game 4 vs. game 7, so forth and so on? I didn't know they had it predetermined like that. I remember them having some kind of draw at the old Garden Plaza in M'boro.
