  1. Coach Bradley went with John Sharp, a JR. He has been in the system for awhile now and understands the complications of this passing attack and knows the playbook well. He has a lot of zip on his passes and seems comfortable standing in the pocket. Like GVK mentioned, he and the receivers have some timing issues to work out, but overall he shows a lot of promise. The freshman QB is very talented and will start at FS on defense, he is the 2nd team QB right now. If he continues to grow & develop I am told he will be "special".
  2. Thanks for your insight. I have no idea what to expect from FRA, and this CAK team is trying to discover itself after losing so many talented players. CAK should be able to create some points and pile up some yardage with the efficient passing attack that Coach Bradley has designed over the years. Offensively the Warriors are unproven, but they have a QB that has looked good in pre-season, some solid receivers and a offensive line. The issue is do they have any playmakers? During our success the past several years we have had guys on the field that could take a 5 yard hitch and turn it into an 80 yard TD. So we will have to find out who, if any, of the players can fill that role. Defensively, looks like maybe we area bit improved over last year, but only time will tell. We will give up some points like always, but hopefully our offensive can find more points than our opponents.
  3. I saw Fulton for 1 qtr. in the jamboree and intend on watching their game Thurs. night against Powell. What I saw was an impressive collection of talent and SPEED from the reigning state champions . They will be tough competition for anyone in the state this year. But of course you've faced some good competition in the playoffs in the past...ha. Good luck to the Cyclones
  4. Thanks C1. 2 of the 3 games between our schools have been heart stoppers so maybe we will find a way to schedule each other again in the future. You guys have a very supportive community and provide a great atmosphere to play ball and always put a tough team on the field. Best of luck to Betsy as well...didn't you all move up to 4A this year?
  5. I love your optimism, but this CAK team has a lot of work to do to be in the same ball park as we have been. I think CAK will score some points for sure, but it just might take us longer than we are use to. This team will have to be patient...but I think the coaching staff understands that and will plan accordingly.
  6. Thank BPM....good luck to your Dawgs as well. Our QB has shown a good arm in pre-season and the receivers generally catch most of his passes, but we are lacking the overall firepower we have had the past several years. But Coach Bradley will have them ready to play...we will just have to wait and see if its good enough to win. Its a long drive to Franklin from K-town.
  7. There weren't any threads on here about the Warriors so I thought I would at least throw one out there for any CAK supporters or others that may be interested. I don't really know anything about Franklin Road Academy other than where they are located and that they are a D2 school. CAK really needs to win this game to build some confidence for all the inexperienced players we have this year. The new QB has potential but this team is lacking the playmakers that we have grown accustom to. Your thoughts?
  8. Hey BPM...I'm still trolling the "T" every once in a while. My boy graduated a couple of years back and now my daughter has graduated as well, so I'm a bit outside of the loop. But I still bump elbows with the coaches and a few of the dad's. I will continue to make some of the games, but not all of them like I have in the past. I caught a glimpse of the Warriors in a scrimmage the other day and it got my high school football juices flowing again. Good luck to your Bulldawgs this year...I'm sure they will be a good squad. Thanks for the shout out!
  9. I think #4 for CAK at this time is a little lofty. Maybe a top 10, maybe not, only time will tell. I appreciate how much respect we have earned over the past 4-5 years, especially the past 2 with back to back titles and 3 victories over Alcoa out of the last 4 meetings, but we have lost a great deal of fire power and increased the difficulty of our schedule at the same time. I expect CAK to still have a good squad, but it will be very difficult for our boys to live up to the high expectations that recent teams have created. Good luck Warriors, I know you will give it your best!
  10. Thanks BB, nice to hear from you. Brianna is a great player and we have sorely missed her since her injury. We sure could use her now. But she's part of that dynamic Sophomore class, so I suspect she will get another chance to get back to Murfreesboro. Our girls showed their youth last night and were very fortunate to win, but they survived and will take a boat load of experience away from it.
  11. Congrats to CC for a great season. Not a pretty game by either team tonight, but the pressure is completely different on the big stage. This is the first appearance at this level for CAK, so I'm sure they are soaking it up and trying to learn from all the other great teams. Maybe they will lose some of their jitters after this one.
  12. I hope so too. If so, we will have the gym to ourselves I'm sure, ha. Good luck tomorrow
  13. 39-35 CAK prevails. Hopefully the girls will learn from this experience about how to close out a game at this level. Congrats Warriors!
  14. Thats youth for you. They will learn from this, but hopefully with a win.
  15. Yeah. My daughter cheers, so I try to keep up with the other sports, just not as involved as with football. CPA and CAK seem to be in the mix all across the board, boys/girls, etc... I'm sure this helps us win friends,
  16. The 6-6 center, 6-1 forward and the terrific point guard for CAK are all Sophomores! Only 1 Sr. on the team. Regardless of how this one ends, I expect to see CAK back here next year.
  17. Very nice and complimentary post. I agree
  18. Back in the day I did the walk-on thing at UT vs playing in the OVC. Being a walk-on back then was like living in a different world, you were lucky if the coaches even knew your name or if you were granted access to the training room if you were injured. But I wasn't an invited walk-on, I just kind of bulled my way onto the team, ha. Not sure how it is now or how Coach Jones handles his walk-on program. Typically as a walk-on you have to prove yourself twice as many times as the scholarship player. Let's face it, they have money invested in those scholarship guys and they want to get their money's worth, so before they play a walk-on in front of a scholarship guy he has to prove himself beyond a shadow of a doubt. Charlie was invited to join the team, but he still knows what he is facing. I believe Coach Jones and others have been honest and upfront with him. He wants to answer some things to himself and leave no regrets and who can blame him for that. I applaud him for his gumption, even if many think it is ill advised. If he doesn't make progress in getting on the field maybe he will go to the OVC. That is certainly an option. It only took him 2 years at CAK to set all of those records, so he might be able to set some in 2 years in the OVC if that is were his path leads him.
  19. CAK had 4 football players sign yesterday. Josh Smith...UT Bret Kendrick...UT Davis Howell...UTC Cory Rathbone...Center College (KY) Charlie High accepted a preferred walk-on offer from UT (TTU had offered)
  20. I'm sure there is some scenario that could possibly interest Charlie if it presented itself and was a good fit, but I know he is very comfortable with his decision right now regardless of the number of QB's UT signed. Charlie is a very determined young man and received some wise council from qualified sources before deciding to accept a preferred walk-on offer from UT. The odds are stacked against him, but what a great story it will be if he succeeds.
  21. Yes, congratulations to Charlie. I'm sure he and his family are relieved to finally have made a decision. He will now get a chance to prove to himself if he can play at the SEC level. Having 2 CAK teammates on the team with him should be comforting. He should not have any problems learning and understanding the play book. I suspect he will be the most prepared incoming QB. He will have to reacquaint himself with taking snaps under center and his 3,5 & 7 step drops. Its up to him now to prove if height is over rated. Good luck Charlie. I know you will do your best, regardless of how things turn out.
  22. Hard to argue with the 2010 Alcoa squad, they were scary good with Tallent, Tyson and Warren along their DL & OL with others. But the 2009 Alcoa squad was just about as good, beating Maryville 41-24 and never throwing the ball one time, they just physically mauled everyone that year. For selfish reasons I will add that my CAK Warriors would have had great shots at winning gold balls those 2 years if it weren't for Alcoa being so over-the-top good for a 3A team. Individually I will add that Alcoa's Randall Cobb in 2007 was the best overall high school player I ever watched play.
  23. CAK stayed in 3A. There was speculation that we would be moved into 4A, but that didn't materialize.
  24. Yes. I just learned he made the MaxPrep All American Team for mid-level sized schools. Davis Howell, receiver, also made the MaxPrep All American Team. Congratulations to both! They are CAK's first ever football All American's and very deserving I might add. Interestingly, neither of our 2 All Americans have received much interest from the D1's, but our 2 players that are committed to D1's didn't make All American. I'm glad that being recruited by D1's wasn't a prerequisite for being named high school All American. At least these 2 kids have been recognized for their tremendous level of play at the high school level. It just goes to show that in addition to your contributions on the field you've got to fit a physical template on size and speed to get to the D1 level. There are always exceptions to the rule, and I would like to think High and Howell would have been the exceptions, but right now it doesn't look that way unless they choose to walk-on at a D1.
  25. Yes he was. CRB would have his QB's watch video of Harb to show them what he expected from his quarterbacks. I'm sure future QB's will be watching videos of CH. Harb had a cannon of an arm, and he was a lefty like Epperly. Harb just didn't have the team around him that Epperly and High did or he would have gotten more pub too. Love it when past players come back and get involved with the program. The players love having him around.
