  1. I know very little about Scott Co. except that i was told they like to play a wide open offense like Cannon Co. I would like to see Cannon Co's offense start clicking a little better than it has the last few games. I see this as a very even match-up, but if Cannon Co's offense shows up I see no reason why CCHS wont come home with a 5-3 record. The key for CCHS is to not look past this game and be looking ahead to a big game against Smith Co. I believe Coach Schrenk and his staff will work very hard this week and keep the team focused and keep things one game at a time. Good luck CCHS!!
  2. I think that the Sequatchie fans need to lay off Coach Barger. He has brought excitement and respectibility back to you guys program. He is a talented coach, perhaps Bledsoe just played a good game and they are benefeiting from having a new coach and renewed enthusiasm, just like Sequatchie did last year. Coach Barger does an outstanding job rebuliding programs and I think that he has Sequatchie going in the right direction.
  3. Very, very nice win for Cannon Co. Defense played very well. Cannon is showing that they can win the ugly games. I can't wait until the offense finally has that break-out game. Congrats to Cannon Co. and a great job by Coach Schrenk and his staff. It appears that they have accomplished in my opinion the hardest part of coaching and that is changing the mindset of the program. They have changed the culture and givin the players and fans a reason to beivive in the program again.
  4. Very important game for both teams, probably more so for Cannon Co. CCHS has been playing very well, the last few weeks and Coach Schrenk has proven alot of people wrong including myself and has a had great season so far. I believe the players are really buying in to his system and they are starting to believe that the playoffs are within their grasp. I excpect this to be a very great football game to watch. Both teams have some talented skill players and I can wait until friday night.
  5. I would like to see Cannon Co. play with some swagger and play like the team that just beat the 8th ranked team in the state. I think the Lions should go in there and make a statement and start from the opening drive. MTCS has not had to defend a spread all season, and they probably have not palyed a defense that will hit as hard as Cannon Co. will. This a great chance for CCHS to to play a complete game and show everyone that they are not just a 2nd half team
  6. Congrats to an outstanding player in an extremely tough district. Coach Dodgen has lead the program back to the road it needs to be on . Condrats again to Emily, for showing hard work pays off. Good Luck Cannon Co.
  7. Cannon is coming off an outstanding win, and MTCS should be a very winnable game for Cannon Co., but Cannon Co. can not overlook them. They are very well-coached and have some very talented skill players that the defense must contain. I do not think that MTCS has a good enough defense to control the spread for 4 quarters. All that being said Cannon should play now with confidence and a little swagger after knocking off the #8 ranked team in the state, and expect to beat a 1A team such as MTCS. I think that if Cannon Co. can develop the mindset to beat teams in the first half they could become a dangerous team. Just for fun i say an early prediction Cannon Co. 27-12 over MTCS
  8. Huge win for Cannon Co. York did have some personal foul penalties late in the game out of flustration which showed little class. Great win for Coach Schrenk, this is the type of win that will get more players interested in the program and increase numbers. Again great win and the type of game that can turn a season around!
  9. The weather I believe will have a huge impact on this game as Cannon likes to use the spread. I think that Cannon Co. has the potential to give York some problems, I just am not sure how healthy the Lions are going into the game. Cannon Co. has played a tough schedule and has been competitive in every game except for Spring Hill. if they do not allow big plays they have a chance in this game I believe. Hopefully the weather will hold off for the game and it will be a good competitive game and fun to watch.
  10. Cannonbooster, its ridiculous to say 5 wins in the district is like one region win in football. And once again, you are wrong, the work in the front of the gym was done by volunteers and friends of the program. And the administration is in the process of developing a plan to increase restroom and conncession facilities at the football field. The new floor has been needed for 15 years and and it posed a serious injury threat, and had someone been injured the school system could have been sued. As fas as baseball, since the field is not on school grounds and it is not main revenue sport, it gets less attention, but again it is a county field so the county is responsible for its upkeep, not the school. I am for all sports at CCHS, there will always be a need for constant improvement to the facilities, I just wanted you to know you were incorrect about the basketball comment, I am pretty sure we both want the best for CCHS athletics, and thats what matters most.
  11. As far as the football team this season I believe that they can win 3-4 games which I would consider a sucess considering the coaching turnover the last few seasons, and the head coach has to lead by example, if he is enthusiastic his players will follow. As far as the basketball comment, you evidently do not follow the program, the lions won 5 district games last year and finished 4th, and that was there highest finish since 2003. And Coach Rigsby puts in many long hours, in order to get this program where it needs to be. Before he got here we had been thru 3 coaches, and there was no stability. He and Coach Dodgen work very hard to sell there programs they have organized a golf scramble in September and perhaps you mite want to drop by the gym and see the renovated lobby, the new floor, and the renovated locker room, thanks to our coaches and hard working volunteers who belive in Coach Rigsby and Coach Dodgen basketball has made tremendous strides. So please keep posting, but before you knock basketball again check your facts!
  12. Basketball no longer has a class and they have mandatory dead periods just like football, and the players have to take it upon themselves to get together and work. I agree that football is a bit tougher to manage from a facilities standpoint, but with a new athletic director and new coach there will certainly and hopefully be upgrades on the way. The team did look good tonite on defense and the offense looked good in spurts, considering the rain i thought it was a good performance against a 6A team. All in all I was pleasently surprised. Now if coach Schrenk just gets the enthusiasm up and coaches with more excitement and passion and creates a buzz that attracts more players he can be successful here.
  13. Spy, I think the issues lie deeper than hiring a coach. First of all, the Athletic director should asume some of that responsibility since they were in on the hire. Shrek has yet to prove himself as a coach here, and until he does I think we should give him a chance to be successful. Parsley may have not had that many apply for this job when it was posted, and some of the other candidates were very little expreienced. I have being reading all the threads and you seem so angry, but offer little solutions to our troubles. We can't do anything about the X's and O's, but we can do other things. The athletic director when Coach Schrenk was hired was Mr. Knox who is now the principal, and he was not even told that coach Bartsch was being fired so evidently he was not allowed much say so in the hiring process, but I do agree the AD should have the responsibility when it comes to athletic decisions. There were actually alot of candidates that applied for the job, including several from some very powereful, winning programs and I think the point spy was trying to make is that he would rather have had an unproven assistant from a power program, instead of a head coach that had a losing record. As far as the basketball comments, all we have all been saying is that waht coach Dodgen and Coach Rigsby have been doing is proving to be very successful, and maybe Coach Schrenk should follow there model. Schrenk has yet to prove himself as a head coach period not just here, but he could be successful IF he is willing to change his methods and find an enthusiastic style that is attractive to fans and prospective players, and condition the players like championship programs do and change the culture of the program here. Pre-season polls came out in DNJ today Cannon was picked to finish last. Lets hope that proves to be wrong!
  14. Outsider52, I have never said that I know it all, nor do I believe I know it all. I am continually trying to learn more and I have lots more to learn and I look forward to learning more. And I would never try and give the new coach x's and o's suggestions, I am by no means a football coach. I am knowlegable in sports administration and sports management. My suggestions deal with changing the culture of the program and the athletic department in general and promoting the program and growing excitement and enthusiasm around the program. I hope he is very successdul here and the reason I have these suggestions is becasue they are alomost all tried and true, yet we have rarely ever tried them at Cannon Co. and that is what I want to change. It is true that I am just a student an have never ran a program by myself but the people I have learned from have and they are all very successful and I only wish to bring there philosophy's and strategies mixed with a few of my own ideas to fit the program here at Cannon Co.
  15. What suggestions do you have? Most of suggestions are philosophys that the entire athletic program should follow. They are all from successful programs and it has been successful people that have taught them to me. In my opinion he has to bring more of a passion to the table. Evidently from the number of players, his message is not responding, which is fine as long as he is willing to open up to new methods. I am very huge on building a winning culture and to do that you have to imiatate what the best do. I go back to my Thomas MacDaniel example, befor him Oakland has just 40 players and 5 losing seasons. Because of his enthusiasm and passion for the program players started wanting to be apart of that and he ended up with over 100 players and a state title. That is the type pf personality Coach Schrenk must try and follow and he must look at other successful programs and see how they are ran and try and follow there model.
  16. If facilities do not improve and number of players does not improve and excitement does not improve and if the record which is most important does not improve then how is it better than last year? Wins and losses are the ,most important factor. And we should only throw more if we have the personel to do it, you should't throw just for the sake of throwing. And I know Rigsby and Dodgen are behind him and I am to, I want him to stay here and be very succesful, but I also want to see his plans for the program and I want to see excitement and enthusiasm around the program. I want him to be the buzz all over the halls because of his passion for Cannon Co. football thats when more players will come. And it is very very good he came to jr lions practice. He should teach spread to jr. high coaches because thats the only way to build a successful program.
  17. DNJ article didn't really show me anything I didn't know about coach Schrenk, just gave his background again. Article in Cannon Co. paper told about how he wanted to get interest in the program and excitement into the program, but he didn't really say how he was going to do that. Is he involved with jr high program? is he showing excitement and passion to the players? When school starts will he show excitement and enthusiasm to all the other students and prospective players? He talked about how building the program would take time, but even in high school athletics it is a what have you done for me lately world, just ask Coach Bartsch from last year when evidently 4-6 wasn't good enough and I know there were other factors that played into his dismissal, but people expect to see improvement on that 4-6 record not regression. He could be successful here but he has to be more pro-active in my opinion in getting excitement into the program and building a positive culture. It's nice to say the program needs more numbers and that he wants to bring excitement to the program, but how is he going to do it?
  18. Article in Daily News Journal tommorow featuring area's new coaches. I will be interested to see if Coach Schrenk mentions anything about his vision or plans for where he wants to take the program or how plans on increasing the numbers and what he says about generating interest back into the program. Should hopefully be an interesting article.
  19. I agree pspy. If players or fans aren't interested that means what he is doing is not working so he must accept that, learn from it and change to something new. In today's sporting world you have to be successful in order to be cocky and he hasn't proven himself as a head coach yet. I fully believe he can become successful but he must be willing to change his ways and follow the models of other successful programs. He can not just assume that players will want to play for him based on his record, so like I have been saying he has to re-invent himself and change his tactics or he will be the same coach he was at Northwest unless you change and learn you are the same coach and person you were just at a different place. He can do that, and win the fans over and gain more players but he has to follow the model of successful programs and successful coaches. He has to market and sell the heck out of the program, people in today's world even in Cannon Co. aren't buying into the same old thing, they want to know what his vision for the program is and how he is building for the future and he has to show people that he has a passion to win at Cannon Co. , not just be a friend to the players or have fun, because if they are not winning they aren't having fun. So he has to make the choice to change his style and change the culture of the program or let it fall in to mediocrity or worse.
  20. I agree with you warrior it was a personality conflict, but your exactly right that coach Bartsch ran a good program, some players just refused to open up to his style, while most did and for that I do not blame the coach. Anyway my point was, that MacDaniel proved himself, by hitting the halls and being enthusiastic much like you did at Cannon and Sequatchie. MacDaniel actually did not lose a whole lot, he has a lot of seniors this year the talent pool is just much larger at Oakland. But to take a team from 3-7 to 14-1 I believe and a state championship in one year shows that you are one heck of a coach, once again much like you did at Cannon leading them to a winning record and like the job you are doing at Sequatchie. I'm just saying that in order for Coach Shrenk to get more players and more interest in the program he should follow the pattern of MacDaniel and even yourself. You were enthusiastic and exciting and you were totally sold out to making Cannon Co. football better and the players knew it and felt it just like MacDaniel is at Oakland and thats the type of coach players want to be around. You can not just tell players we will have fun, because lets face it, its only fun when your winning and improving the program, and I think Schrenk should model coaches like yourself who change cultures of programs by letting your vision of the program be known and letting your passion carry over to your players. If he will do these things more players will come, and he can become successful at Cannon Co. but he and the staff must be open to following the model of successful programs and that may mean changing there style completely. But I know this: If you do not change anything or learn every year the program will stay the same and you will be the exact same type of coach. Just because you have a different job or another year of experience doesn't make you a better coach. You must constantly try and find ways to improve style and your program or you will fall into mediocrity and the culture of a program is crushed when that happens
  21. Yeah, thats true wildcat. But when Barger left and we had all these numbers. We were coming off our first winning season in a long time. Then Coach Bartsch came along and ran everyone off. And i would probably say that some of the kids were just fed up wiyh it. They think they gave it a shot. And it wasnt for them. SO they just dont want to even try again. Because lets face it. Kids dont want to be dedicated to anything no more. Its to much time consuming. Dont put so much blame on Coach Bartsch. He tried to teach the players how things are done at the 6A level and thats how he tried to run the program and he did run a very well organzied program. Perhaps he wasn't a good fit here, but he was not the whole problem it was players who refused to listen to him as well. Anyway the point is I believe kids do want to be dedicated, but they want to have an exciting, enthusiastic coach who pushes them to be the best players they can be. Coach Schrenk has to become that type of coach in order to increase the number of players. People want to see and know that he has a passion for changing the program and being enthsiastic about it. He may have to totally change his coaching personality, but thats what type of coach players want to be around, they want to see an absoulte passion, because when they do it carries over to them. Again he needs to folllow the mold of coaches like Thomas MacDaniel who was able to generate so much excitement he got his team from 40 to 100 players. That is the type of coach that people want and Coach Schrenk can become that but he must be willing to accept new ways to reach players
  22. I like that type of spread and if it works it should light up the scoreboards. I would love to see Coach Schrenk and staff follow the model of Thomas MacDaniel at Oakland or even what Lane Kiffin has done at Tennessee. Both coaches are absoubltly sold out to changing there program and they are so enthusiastic about there teams. In MacDaniel's first season Oakland went from 40 to over 100 platers because MacDaniel changed the culture of that program and his excitement was contagious and thats what players want to be apart of and what fans want to support. Cannon won't have 100 players but when coach Barger left there were close to 70 and he was such an enthusiastic exciting coach and thats how he created such an interest in the team and how he got so many players. If the coaching staff would follow those models of enthuiasm and excitement and let it be seen by everyone, the players, fans, and student in the hall ways then I promise the numbers would increase becasuse people want to play for enthuiastic and exiting coaches.
  23. Well wildcat, tonight was the last summer workout. Monday the boys start in full pads and the friday the 31st there will be a scrimage at cannon county against Lancaster Christian Academy. All that needs to be said, is that things are shaping up great with Coach Shrenk, hope to speak with you after the game. Yeah just catch me after the game. Any other pre-season competition besides Lancaster Christian? Bees what type of spread does coach Schrenk use? is it a Dekalb Co. style or more of a run-oriented spread?
  24. We will know more after both teams have preseason games. Spring Hill is 4A so just guessing they will have more players and be slightly more athletic, but I really know very little about them. It will be Cannon's first game under a new coach and a new system so there will be several mistakes understandably because its the first game. As for the attendence I hope it is good, I know that fans will be curious to see if Coach Schrenk has more success here at CCHS than he had Clarksville Northwest. I know I will be there for sure. I will be interested to see how quickly players have picked up the spread and how many players actually dress out and how they respond to thew new coach. I hope there is good attendence and a victory for Canno, but it is way to early for me to make a prediction
  25. I agree except for the fact that Coach Barger had the numbers over 60 close to 70 when he left and there were still no playoff appearences, but there was vast improvement and a Bowl win. I firmly believe he was able to get so many players because of his personality. He hit the halls and was enthusiastic and was completely dedicated to turning the program around and he did. Look at Oakland before last year. They have an enrollment of over 1500 and they had less then 50 players and a 3-7 record. They hire Thomas McDaniel young, enthusiastic, and motivated and he gets the numbers over 100 and a state championship. I am not saying that Cannon Co. would win a state championship, but maybe coach Schrenk should try and model himself after those types of coaches in order to get more players and to also generate more of an interest in the program. He should make himself more known to the students and prospective players and get involved with the jr high program and if they see how dedicated he is to changing the program and if he has an absolute passion for Cannon Co. football then that will be something people want to be apart of.
