  1. WHO IS ON THEIR STAFF THIS YEAR AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THEM?
  2. Any thoughts on what the Ravens will be like now that they have a full team? Won the city with the Freshman the first year and runner-up last year? Anyone know if there is anything different about their varsity team compared to last year?
  3. Does that mean Elrod is gonna help again or is he out for good?
  4. I hear rumors of matt clay who is at hillsboro right now. Great guy and coach
  5. Like I said that was just an example. Maybe I shouldnt have used money as the example. But you can see where I am coming from.
  6. 5 Down 5 across is the steps it takes to get something accomplished in Metro. Before anything is accomplished it has to go through 5 or more people before anything is even though of being accomplished. Example: Lets say I want to buy fertilizer for the practice field. Before I can get money to buy I have to go throught the Ad, then the ad to the principal, the principal to the head secretary who does the money, who writes the check, back to the principal to sign the check, then back to the ad who will tell me that I am spending too much on fertilizer for a practice field. It makes more sense for me just to go buy the fertilizer and bring the receipt and let the secretary right me a check. But thats not how its done in Metro. Thats just an example, there are far worst situation
  7. BigAl we may have our differences but I am gonna agree with you on this one a little bit. Metro schools are known for recycling coaches in the system. And I dont understand many of reasons why but what I do know that its not always the coach's choice on certain decisions made week in and week out. The board and administration can make it tough on any coach in Metro to do what he needs to do and be successsful. Many Metro teams do not have the support from boosters, communitys, or even parents to deal with situations like money, buses, pre game meal or even concession stands. There are some out there but it takes more than a handful of parents and boosters to have a successful program. The "SCHOOL SPIRIT" is slacking in Metro which makes it very hard and many coaches spend countless hours and a lot of their own money just to have a decent program. We always had fans in our stands when I played in High School but now I have been to games where the other side or even our side of the stands had 50 people at the most watching and cheering at a game. I think open enrollment has a little to do with that since many students dont drive these days and the only way they get anywhere is by bus which doesnt run on firday nights and live far away from the school they attend. Thats just a few problems in Metro so when you talk about other Coaches from outside the system coming in and trying to be successful in its first few years "YES" it happens but how long do they stay in the system. "NOT LONG!" So those coaches who have commited to Metro schools my hat is off to them whether HEAD or ASSISTANT and deserve a little more credit than what is given on a dumb forum. A wise person once told me when I was getting into this you can spell metro the same sideways as you can up and down. "5 DOWN 5 ACROSS! M E T R O E T R O Ok I will get off my soapbox I was at East Lit last night watching Basketball and heard some rumors, this is what I know. People who have applied so I hear. LAW (Whites Creek), Ralph Thompson (Maplewood), An assistant from Hillwood not sure of the name and also a guy from Sycamore.
  8. I think having the leadership of 23 seniors (Blackman) and 17 Seniors (Oakland) would give any coach a great start at a new job.
  9. Cane Ridge still didnt have a full school and played a varsity schedule. Hillsboro got a great new coach but as many would know it takes time to get things rolling with the kids when a new Coach comes in. East Lit went 500 and had 2 big wins beating Cpa and Maplewood. Stratford is in a slump so was Hillwood but I am positive Bubba Spears will get that program running again. Great Coaches find what works with their kids to be successfull. there is quality football all over the Mid-State. Its not my place to critisize anyones players or coaching staff or how good or bad their coaches are. We all have struggles no matter where we are at. But once again a budget has nothing to do with quality football or football coaches.
  10. "BOZO HEAD COACH" I would rethink such a statement. Anyone who gives up his own time and money to teach and coach the game of football is not a Bozo. I dont care what school your at or where you are from no one coaches high school football for the money and any assistant or head coach who is expecting to make a living off coaching high school football should think twice about coaching high school ball. There are plenty of colleges out there for you to coach at. All i can say is good luck staying at a college for more than 5 years. Now the quality of assistant coaches is another matter. Yes, head coaches do ask former and retired head coaches to help. Why? Because they know football and what it takes to win and have a successful program. Those good assistant coaches are the ones who learn and study the game day in and day out and spend just as much time or even more time than the head coach preparing and studying each week. All coaches rather its an assitant or a head has room for improvement and should never stop learning or be comfortable with one style of football. The game and the athletes you have change year after year. Metro Schools do have quality football and most of the Metro schools have winning seasons. Our kids just need more encouragement and help when it comes to things off the field that we as coaches have no control over.
  11. East Lit. practices on the what is hope to soon be game field behind the school. Right now home field for the Eagles is at the old TPS field which has great potential but there are problems keeping the rugby teams and military from being on the field and destroying it. Bubba has done a great job getting the program going at East Lit. and I hope that whomever takes over can take that program to the top and can get the program to continue to be successful. The kids at East are great but as any coach knows there are always a few knuckleheads. Also Mr. Ball is a great administrator to work for and is very supportive. Good Luck to East next year and to the new Head Coach, whomever that might be.
  12. GOOD LUCK TONIGHT! I might just have to go to the "OLD TPS FIELD" tonight instead of waiting for the news.
  13. Could it be? East Lit's, one and only fan? Or it could be that I am very familiar with the athletes that Metro puts out each year and I am a huge supporter of all Metro Sports. But, actions speak louder than words. I look forward to seeing the final score on the news tonight. Once again good luck running down East. From the people I have talk to their backs are very speedy!
  14. Your right Metro says it all! Athletes with speed and agility will always run over or run passed non-city schools. Must be something in the Davidson County water. Doesnt matter if the field East plays on is old or not. You cant stop speed!
