  1. I totally agree with you. Things were much simpler then. But there were still some out there that cried and moaned when it was A, AA, AAA. Looks like you got lucky and avoided that 1990 massacre by Dewayne Harper. Now that double wing-T was tough. So what's up for Motown this year? Playoffs I hope. Yeah, in 89 we graduated 18 seniors that all started on offense or defense. That didn't leave much in the way of experience for the 90 group. Seems like we were always on the INFAMOUS bubble which caused us to be bumped up in 87 and 88. We had just come off a semi-final run in 86 and then had to play up. Don't know bout this year. I think it all depends on whether we can make some kind of attempt to pass the football this year. If not, could be more of the same as last year.
  2. Yeah, Mungle was a gritty player. Played against him in 89. You guys were a 3 touchdown favorite at home. I think we ended up winning by two or three. Needless to say our run was ended by Oneida that year. Things were so much simpler when it was 1A, 2A, and 3A. I played from 86 to 89. Good memories.
  3. That's a pretty impressive signature you have there Stinger. First let me say I am not trying to bash TC. You guys have a great program. I do however believe that had Westmoreland stayed where they belonged 1A, you guys would be a few balls shorter. JMO, but who do you really play till the last 2 rounds of the playoffs? I noticed a large gap in all those championship runs. Any idea who the local team was that was handing you guys your *'s? How bout the mid 90's? Who could that have been?
  4. I was talking with Postman the other day and he told me that his inside sources in Carthage told him that John Elway was coming to coach the Owls and bringing his son with him.
  5. No doubt about basketball and football shape. When the basketball player comes back to football there is no doubt about his cardio. There is however a big difference in alot of running and actual weight training. What school are you afilliated with? Sounds like your coaches are all on the same page. That's why in my original post I suggested that TSSAA iniate some type of strength training for any student athelete that participates in sports. IMO this would eliminate some injuries,
  6. I'm sorry, let me clarify. Yes we do lift all season, but the summer is the only time the 3 sport athelete would have to make any gains. We lift all year in football, just not heavy during season. So when you break it down, it is only about a month or so for the 3 sport athelete. If you would read my earlier posts, I have already stated that the workouts should be specific to the sport the athelete is playing. The main thing is that all coaches involved with the athelete should realize that weight training helps their athelete, not hurts them.
  7. This is the scenario at our school. We do have atletics during fourth block. That's not the problem. The problems is that a 3 sport atheletes are in whatever sport is in season, which means that while in baseball and basketball, they get no lifting at all, unless they do it on their own, and even this is discouraged by their coach. Therrefore, the 3 sport athelete may only lift for about one month. That's just enough to make you sore. Just doesn't make sense to me how a coach can't see the benefits of lifting weights.
  8. This is a great point. What is the benefit of playing dodgeball while the P.E. coach, who is usually a football coach, draws up plays and thinks of ways to make his team better. Let him teach what he knows and make his team better at the same time.
  9. I will have to disgree with you on this one. I admit that a huge bicep could prevent some extension, but if done properly, extension should be increased with the use of weights. I point again to Golf. I think that within the mandatory lifting requirement, the lifts should be modified to enhance whatever sport the athelete is playing at the time. Take baseball for instance, the lifts should focus on the core, legs, and triceps not to mention the shoulders. Let's face it, most teenagers are not gonna have Hulk Hogan arms, and chances are if they do, baseball ain't there sport.
  10. Well, basketball season is over for most of the young men. Most of them have found their way back to the weight room, except for the baseball players, they will get further behind. The first few days back, everyone got a max. Just let me say WOW! When you have a 130lb. QB lifting a considerable amount more in the BIG 4, than your 200lb. plus linemen, you have a problem. For some reason, most b-ball coaches think that lifting will affect their atheletes shot. How can that be? When I look at most college and pro b-ball players arms, they make Rocky Balboa look like a girl. I don't think they got that way from not working out. It is a proven fact that weight training can benefit any sport. Even golfers workout, if they want to play at a highly competitive level. Lets say that weight lifting did affect you athelete's shot. How many kids u gonna have on the team with a real shot? Maybe 2 or 3? Why would you not want your big guys under the basket to be strong and able to get that rebound. You don't have to have a shot to make one under the basket. I know what your're thinking. This guy is a football only guy. But not so. I myself many years ago was a 2 sport athelete. Things were different 20 years ago. Twenty years ago, a good athelete could get by with not working out. Heck, for the most part add 10 more years, and nobody worked out, and the best athelete could dominate. But advances in the science of weight lifting have taken that average guy and boosted him to the same level and beyond the guy with all the athleticism. I guess what I'm really trying to say is, I think TSSAA should make schools have a weight training program for all students who participate in sports. I'm sure some schools do this, but ours doesn't. With all the gains that young atheletes are making today, if you don't work out, you could possibly get hurt really bad. No one wants to see that happen. Any opinions?
  11. After looking at the film, it was #11 from MC that came off his side line and put an ear hole shot on his own player. I heard he may have a serious concussion, hope he's o.k. I do agree that the refs didn't have control of this one.
  12. Wasn't talking about the best team. I know we are down this year. It would be hard to compare records given that we aren't playing in the same region anymore. Guess all we can do is compare our game and the pending outcome of the Gville game. And I believe it is you my friend who should be preparing for basketball this year
  13. Why you gotta be dissin' Westmoreland. I'm glad we are still fresh on your mind. I think that maybe SC fans should come to the realization that you are just not a very good team this year Not dissing Cheatam Co. but they are not the the caliber of the last 3 teams you guys have faced. Maybe it's just harder to make plays, summer leagues and passing camps are different than the Friday Night lights. Not saying SC doesn't have play makers. Mabe Z.....but ...I could be wrong, and usually am, but in my honest opinion, I thought, and still believe LA is a better team than Westy. You saw the drive against G-ville before the half and the last drive, so you've seen what CAN happen. They have had drives like that in every game and end up with a penality, fumble,or drop. I know the defense has something to do with some of that, but cut out the errors, they are all different ball games.....but that is part of every game, with every team.
  14. By the way, what's up with GP helmets this year. I thought you guys were kitties, not wolverines?
