  1. I know this is only boarder line on topic but I think Coach Rice would be a great addition to any program. Before I go any farther, I'm in no way connected to Karns or Coach Rice. I actually don't really like Karns that much, but that's a different topic. I can see how he might not be for everyone and might even rub some people the wrong way, but I think he's one heck of a coach - one of the top 3-4 in his district. His team may not win the district year in and year out but I think he does a great job with what he has to work with. Lets not forget that a large number of these HVA kids that are being talked about on other posts would actually have attended Karns if it wasn't for the still newly formed HVA. Yeah they pull from other places too, but a majority of those kids would be at Karns. If that was the case then his squad would look a whole lot better and magically he'd be a lot better coach in the eyes of most fans. I'm not taking anything away from Coach R at HVA but lets be honest, a lot of HS sports has a lot to do with Jimmys and Joes. Coaches help but if you don't have the horses, you aren't getting very far in these two districts. I also don't blame Coach Rice for trying to get out of Karns (if he did apply, I don't know that for a fact so I won't speak to it). It's going to be a long time before Karns is competitive again now that HVA has made such a name for itself. You all may think I'm crazy but I think you could do a lot worse than Coach Rice.
  2. Congrats to Clinton but how in the world....? Who did Powell throw? What happened? Talk about underachieving with superior talent the last 2 years!
  3. Who they beat is good to look at but K/BB ratio, ERA, and total Ks will also play a factor.
  4. I think it's very important for everyone to understand the process involved in selecting the all-district team because I think when a kid doesn't make it, the head coach takes it on the chin when it's not really their fault. Each coach submits players from his team that he feels are qualified candidates. He'll also make a case for each player, usually based off of stats. It's then up to the other coaches in the district to vote on who they feel should be named all-district. Sometimes good kids get over looked and it has nothing to do with how their own coach feels about him. I guess Thomas Cox is a good example. He's not a 'household name' in the district (I don't know of him) like a Owenby, Skeen, Painter, or Durand so he could get over looked in some years. I gotta be honest, Lane is all I know from OR and that Lefty that swings from his heels (can't recall his name). However if a kid sets a single season record it's hard not to make a case for him. Also how many kids each school gets is all impacted by how their team finishes. Should Karns have more players than HVA? Should Clinton have more players on there than Halls? So they usually set a specific number of kids that will make the team and then it goes from there. Good players do get missed unfortunately.
  5. Who did HVA throw against Karns? 3-0 seems awfully close. Coach Rice must be squeezing a lot of blood out of the turnip like he usually does this time of year. Anyone know who HVA has going against Powell?
  6. Why did Oak Ridge throw Lane? Unless they have someone I don't know about, there's no way they're beating Halls if Lane isn't on the mound.
  7. I don't have the words for how much respect I have for Coach Clark so if he says it's not Hopkins then I'm going to go with him on that one (even though I was the one that put his name out there). Apologies to all for the misinformation. I'll own that one. Someone said that it was going to be a coach from Colierville and I couldn't imagine that Bearden would hire an assistant again so I figured it had to be Hopkins. If they're considering assistants then why not Wilker? I was always under the impression that he wanted the job. I know he's not a teacher but doesn't Knoxville have a stipulation that if you're an assistant coach in their system for X years then you're eligible? Maybe that changed.
  8. I have Jeff Hopkins from Coliierville getting it. Put it on the board. Winner gets a Litton's burger, right?
  9. What time does this game start???? I looked every where and can't find a game time. O yeah, I have FHS by 3.
