  1. I would think that if a coach was picking from the girl's in 7AA to start a team, Brown would be the first choice. But since she missed most of the season due to an injury, I don't feel she has played in enough games to warrant the MVP award. I went with Chumney from Smith County. I remember how far down the were three years ago and where they are at now. They haven't been a successful as I thought they would be, but they are light years ahead of where they were. A big reason for this is the Chumney girl.
  2. You could be right, but I don't see it happening. Not on the MOUNTAIN!!! GO EAGLES!!!
  3. I want to say that I have been impressed with Hudson's play the last two weeks. He has been the most consitant player on the floor. Always gives great effort, and is really been protecting the ball much better. Great hustle play the other night when he saved the ball from going out of bounds and Rigsby ended up shooting free throws. Also played great D against Westmoreland's top player. Look for more of the same Friday night. thumb GO EAGLES!!!
  4. I think that Allen will do better against this type of competition than he has in the last few games he has played. Right now he is worrying about leading the team so much that he is overthinking some things on the court. He is also hindered by the refs, seems like they are calling a few to many charges. When he just has fun and plays ball, he is a joy to watch. Most of these types of showcases have a lot of running and gunning and Allen can do that with the best of them. I'm really proud of they way Allen has matured over the last two years. He always had the tallent, but he now understands the game alot better. Everyone on the team should look to follow his work ethic and team first attitude. All he wants to do is win, doesn't matter if he scores 40 or 4. When he got in foul trouble at Friendhip, the team put together a 10 point run, and Allen said he hoped he didn't have to go back in the game. It wasn't that he didn't want to play, it was that he hoped the team continued to play well and he wasn't needed to win the game. That's team first. How many other high school superstars think this way?thumb
  5. I hope we get to find out on the court, as long as it isn't in the regional finals.
  6. Devil, I have told several people, including Bibb when he left to take the Pickett job that Wright was the best all around player on Pickett's team. He plays with great intensity and a desire to win in every game I have seen him play. I can't say the same about Bailey. I'm proud to see that someone else agrees with me. I'm not knocking Bailey at all, just giving that much respect to Wright.
  7. Said it last time and I'll say it this time, if Van Buren wins it won't be an upset. They will miss having Stewart, but with the way that Baker has been playing lately, they still should win this one at home. The boys are getting closer to being a good basketball team. Just need to protect the ball, play with intensity, and play together. I look for Allen to have a good shooting night, he's due. Against Friendship he will be able to take the ball to the rack. Remember what won it for them at Friendship, great intensity, good D, protect the ball, and don't worry who gets the glory. When you win, everyone gets to celebrate. If they do these things, it would be tough for anyone to beat them. thumb
  8. Played in Hall of Fame game, Pickett won by 9 or so.
  9. Congrats to the Van Buren Eaglettes on a big win over neighboring Bledsoe County. These girls have improved all year long. We may be young, but if they keep playing hard and having fun, good things will continue to happen. WAY TO GO!!! thumb
  10. Van Buren by 10 or 12. Started slow then picked up speed as the game went on. The two freshmen played big again tonight, Baker grabbed several rebounds and had some putbacks and Smith was unstoppable in the third for a while till the refs call a couple of charges, one deserved and one so-so. Good job from the second quarter on. A few to many turnovers but they made up for it with good D.
  11. I would think she would be a matchup problem for any team she faces. thumb
  12. Pickett is a victim of their success in years past. They dominated this region for so long that people automatically assume they will win it every year. In the past they have had they athletes that stood head and shoulders above everyone else. They combined that tallent with great fundamentals and won alot of games. They are still very good, but others in the region have caught up, either athlete wise or how they play on the court. That doesn't mean that Pickett has a letdown or is overrated, it just means there is more than one team with the ability to win. thumb
  13. The reason I ask is due to the fact that on the other thread most folks are picking York to win tonight at Upperman. Upperman has yet to be beat in the district. I'm hoping to get out to see this game tonight to see how York can compete with Upperman with Brandi in the lineup.
  14. I was just wondering, with Brown back, should York be considered the favorite to win the district tournament?
  15. The great thing is that we will get the chance to see it on the court. I didn't say who would or wouldn't win, I just said that I thought it would be a good game. I'm sure the people from Pickett felt the same way last year. In this region, there are five teams that can match up with any other team on any given night. Pickett and Westmoreland have been the most consistant all year, but all it takes is one bad game, or one team getting hot, and everything changes in the tournaments. I expected Pickett to the regions last year and it didn't happen. I'm a fan of both schools in that I like the way they both play. I've seen them both play and I would be afraid to call a winner either way. That's not knocking either school, just calling it like I see it. thumb
  16. Westmoreland and Pickett would be a great game. Tough defense played by both teams. Both take care of the ball and both shoot the ball well. The important thing will be district tournaments. The seedings going into the region will be important. No one thought Trousdale County had a chance last year but they got hot at the right time. As of right now, no one has beaten Westmoreland in the district but they have had several close games. I don't know if that will help them or hurt them come district tournament time. In the other district, other than Clarkrange, I don't think anyone has played Pickett close. That should give them the edge in the district tournament. They may be that much better than the other teams. But don't count 8a out of the running. For the past two years they have shown that they are capable of winning the region.
  17. They are a very good ball club. When they are hitting shots they are very tough to beat. They have an opportunity to make a run at the state tournament. However, they are not so good that they can't be put out earlier. Friendship and Van Buren both have the enough tallent to beat Westmoreland on any given night. In the region, I would think that Pickett would be the favorite, and Clay County could give any team fits also. Should be a great district and regional tournament with Pickett and Westmoreland as the favorites. thumb
  18. Congrats to the Eagle of Westmoreland on their win tonight on the mountain. Pretty good game throughout and until the end never more than a six point lead either way. The difference was Westmoreland hit their shots and Van Buren did not. As usual, I was impressed with the intensity, defense, and passing of Westmoreland. Van Buren couldn't get shots to fall, partly due to Westmoreland's D and partly just missing open jumpers. They took some bad shots and had a few to many turnovers. Having Stewart out also hurt. They did play good D throughout and played hard throughout. It just wasn't their night. If they continue to play like they have, VB should see the other Eagles again in the district tournament and hopefully then we will hit our open looks. Good game by two good teams. thumb
  19. Gordonsville seems to play everyone tight but haven't broken through with the big win. I'll have to say Friendship, but it won't be by as much as you would think.
  20. Great rivalry, but I don't think this is Warren's year to win.
  21. Pretty strong comment considering Westmoreland only won by six at home earlier this year. Just like with Friendship, should be a good game by two evenly matched teams. If VB plays good D and stays aggressive, they should get the W. Hey 8abball, faith is what you have if you haven't seen something. I saw these boys play intense D against FCS. I BELIEVE they will do it the rest of the year. Van Buren Eagles by 15!!! They will continue to improve and put it all together in time for the tournaments. thumb
  22. Friendship has the tallent but aren't all that aggressive. G'ville by 8.
  23. Does Trousdale have they players that were suspended playing again? If they do, then TC by 10, if not, HS by 3.

Van Buren is the most athletic. Friendship has the best shooting. Westmoreland plays the most consistant basketball. They get after you on defense and protect the ball on offense. They have great confidence and expect to win every game they play. No doubt they are the best right now due to the fact that they haven't lost a district game. Van Buren has a great opportunity friday night. If the VB eagles play D like they did against FCS, stay aggressive on offense, and protect the basketball, they should give the Westmoreland eagles their first district loss. It won't be easy, no one has done it yet, but I think they can GET-R-DONE.
