  1. Also, as hard as it is to imagine, I see a Cocke County victory this Friday at Union County. The score may be 3-2, but a win is a win.

I would like to agree, but until you can stop the run, your not going to beat anyone. Union Co. has 1 win... CCHS has not won in nearly 3 years... it's different when you do not want to be the team that gives up a W for a winless team. Besides, until you can NOT let anyone rush for over 300 yards per game, it's going to be tough to win.

Good luck CCHS, but the game is on the road...

    Union Co - 18

    CCHS- 13

  2. If CCHS cannot score a single point against Seymour or David Crockett, then unless they get some garbage points late, then they do not have a shot.... yeah yeah... any given Friday, but Sevier is a powerhouse and will at least could put up 60 or 70 points up. The Bears are not Seymour, they are more powerful. I hope CCHS can get through this game with no injuries, but they will get thrown around a little and who knows what the effect of this game will bring for the outlook of the rest of the season. I can only hope that the mindless administrative souls of CCHS can take notes to see what a powerhouse of a football program is with Sevier Co. visiting. With Jeff County and others still on the schedule, maybe they need to call these coaches or whatnot to see what they are doing. Sorry but the old excuse of not having speed or talent does not work. Thats the excuse and what people are told to think, but Newport has a lot of talented student-athletes that could easily make CCHS a contender. You can only hope CCHS can keep it close or maybe even surprise early, but once the adrenaline runs off and this one will get ugly. All I can say to any CCHS players is to keep working and holding the rope, but as for this week, they will take a fierce hit in the mouth. CCHS scores early, but the Bears are on cruise control....

    63-7

  3. Crockett is going to win this game easy. This is the week we turn it around and make a playoff run. Unfortunately I will not be able to make the game because I will be at the Dobyns Bennett game with my boyfriend. I can't wait until we beat Dobyns Bennett and ruin their homecoming and see my bf cry about it! DC 34 CC 6 Pioneer Pride!!!

 Are you FN serious? DC beat D-B?

Geez... what kind of weed do they have in Northeast TN?

  4. :thumb::D I thought the authorities confiscated all of that wacky weed they found. All I can say is WOW!! I've never heard of that one before.

    :thumb:

A few years ago they were having practices without an actual football.... thats for real, but I can assure you that they are no longer doing that now.

  5. What are you talking about when you say "long snap kickoff"? What happened exactly?

I was not there, but I had 2 parents and a former player call me and I know of a very frustrated middle school coach that said there were parents and fans screaming from the stands when this event took place. Seymour got a safety and then CCHS instead of kicking the ball off, used a long snapper to punt the ball on the "free punt". The long snapper immediately ran down field resulting in a penalty. I do not know why this happened or even why a timeout or something else wasn't called. I want to give the coaches and players the benefit of doubt, but come on, this is a level of football close to college... not grasscutters. Why on earth would the players even do that? I would find it hard to believe that they were coached this way. At least I would hope not. The next kick was from a tee, which was on the 15. The players should be ready this week.

Below is the quote and link to the Newport Plain Talk... CCHS' paper.

"Keegan Newport also brought a safety for the Eagles, by tackling punter Devon Yankee in the end zone after a bad snap that resulted in a pair of points. After the punt came the most bizarre play of the game, as Cocke County proceeded to use a long snapper to snap the ball to the punter on the free kick, which resulted in an offsides call against the Fighting Cocks."

  6. I read in the paper (Newport Plain Talk) and also heard from 2 parents of players and a middle school coach about the infamous "long snap kickoff" last week. I'm still awaiting an explanation on that one! CCHS could win this ball game, but if any more safeties come about... look out! What's next... a drop kick?

Seriously... any players... coaches? Whats the dealio on that kickoff from last week?

I would take CCHS... offensively they can control the ball and wear DC out, but unfortunately that defense was shredded even in a 4-4, so who knows. What does DC have this year?

I will predict... DC- 33.... CCHS...20.... until CCHS comes about on defense, they cannot win an any shootouts... sorry old hometown, but it's just the truth! Practice hard and keep working!

  7. I attended the Seymour game last night and it was a long night for the visiting team Cocke County. Seymour won the game 51-0, but I thought I would mention something that had a few fans on the home side dying laughing. I have never, and I mean NEVER seen what I am about to post. In all my years of watching all level of football, I have never witnessed whats next.

Seymour got a safety, and we all know what that means. The visiting team has to either free punt or kick the ball from the 20.

Cocke County sends out a longsnapper........ :| I AINT MAKING THIS UP! The punter was around the 7 or 8 yardline maybe and the one kid snaps the ball and then the kick is made. So why in the world would a coach give up 10 or more yards on a free kick, even from the 20 yard line???!!? :thumb:

I hope some other Seymour fans can vouch for this because people think I am making it up. Sorry, but I am still laughing over this one, but for any Cocke County fans I have to ask on why your team would do this. :|

Folks... this guy is right on! I spoke with a parent of a currrent player at CCHS as well as one of the middle school coaches that was in attendance and both confirmed the above story. I have to say that I am shocked because the head coach has college playing experience and should definately know the rules, but the others... who knows. The parent is not at all happy, but he says he will continue to support for now.

  8.

No, I don't know you personally. And its obvious you don't know who I am either, "SIR". :D I can assure you the Cosby coaching staff is not trying to push out DS. They love that guy. And Cosby's football staff is not who pushed you out. But I have seen you on here dogging the HC and the OC. Yes we have some talent up here, but you missed my point about dedication and support. You were in this area. You tell me how important football is to the majority of this community? I apologize if my efforts to stick up Cosby football are a little overzealous, but its been close to my heart since the dawn of the program. The current coaching staff has done more for the program than in the history of Eagle football. I like to stick up for em when I can.

I would love for you to personally show me where I have bashed Shelton and Hall. I took up for them last year on a post and even made the comment that they held their players to a higher standard than the "other" school with having their kids go to the UT strength & conditioning conference and also having 4 coaches attend that same seminar! I am not down on Cosby at all... but if your going to use "youth" as an example... thats not fair to the kids. Everyone battles that and I'm sure Hampton or whomever will be a rough contest, but you play with what you have and you have to have those kids ready and strong. I know about the limitations up there and I will apologize if some of my sarcasm or comments seemed rude... because that was not the intent. DS is doing the best job he can and I only hope that people in the area will appreciate him and USE his servises because if every kid was on board with DS, for the full off-season.. then you could not only put Cosby in the conference championship picture, you put them in the state picture.... but until some of these parents get their minds right and understand what it takes in todays athletics, then all of that stuff is just a dream. even though Cosby is 0-2 and basically looking at a rough Friday this week, doesn't mean the season is over. It will be a long season and despite what happens on Friday, if Cosby keeps working and training, they will be alright and there at the end. I guess when I saw "barely alive" in the one post it made me think, wait a minute... but if everyone works and continues under DS, Im telling you that they will be fine.

  9. Apparently sarcasm is completely wasted on you. No one is giving up on the boys. If you hadn't noticed 12 and 13 year old boys (ATHLETES) look a lil' different in FL. Heck they even grow em different in Blount and sorrounding counties. Its a good thing they've got you to rely on. Those kids would never make it w/o you. You sound as if you have a problem w/ the strength coach at Cosby. I wouldn't make that public knowledge. :D You can't make kids fully dedicate themselves, and around here that is some of the problem. We are also not a fortunate area when it comes to complete parental support. Parents (mostly Mommas) don't understand why kids need to spend so much time on their sport. A lot of other areas have kids lined up 3 deep at each position. We feel lucky when we can fill each position even if its w/ the same players both ways. I've seen you on these boards a few times. Its obvious you're bitter at this area. Suck it up, and go on to train your superstars. Best of Luck! B)

A problem with DS? Why in the world would I? I talked to him last week matter of fact, he is enjoying the fact that he is with Cosby, but is very frustrated at the whole county picture. It's Cocke County as a whole that has the problem! You may think I am bitter, but Im not. Lets see I go from the NFL to Newport... get asked to leave because I gave 2 s - - ts about the kids and now you have an ex-Marine trying to make a difference and even his stuff is limited. WE TRY TO HELP AND THE COACHES PUSH US AWAY! Bitter is not what I am feeling, more of a Ron White "You can't fix stupid" attitude... remember you have kids with talents up there (AND YES YOU DO HAVE TALENT) and you ruin their athletic experiences if you do not push them to the max... both on and off the field. Cosby is a whole lot better than the other school by far. I see schools down here that make kids pay to play... thats right $125 to step on the practice field and if they quit, you do not see a refund. There are worse situations everwhere and Cosby has it better than some. BTW- I paid $200 last year for a banner at Cosby, so if I was against everything, then why support them? So since you know me, sir- anytime you want a conversation, I'm sure you know how to contact me.

  10. I think last year's CCHS team just lost the desire after four years of losing. Injuries to key guys on a very thin team also played a part. This year's team put in a lot of effort into the off-season, but the size, speed, and talent aren't going to be there. The offense system did look pretty good minus the turnovers. The South Greene QB has a good strong arm, but was basically playing 7 on 7 because I don't remember a pass rush all night...

I read the Plain Talk paper in Newport every once in awhile and after reading the CCHS/SG story, what exactly does this mean?

This quote is from the paper and coach... link below...

"Cocke County High School coach Casey Kelley's message all week was that if anyone was going to beat his football team this week it needed to be the South Greene Rebels."

    http://newportplaintalk.com/story/29998

Seriously - drawing a blank on that one.... why would you want the other team to win?

  11. hey guys we are alive but barely. Man Claiborne Co. and GP beat us up pretty good. We were already very young, undersized, inexperianced, slow, and weak, but now beat and battered. i dont know if there is anything we can bring the bulldogs to feed on except some bones. sorry about that. i guess the main reason we dont have to many people on here is that all of them or their kids graduated or quit. could be that they are having internet problems or better yet find it awaste of time to post and a hoot to read. anyway take care Hampton see you friday.

Player development... I have tried to get you people up there to understand that for years. Yeah your young, but so are thousands of players across the country. You guys even have the strength and conditioning coach that your paying. It all starts with the middle school programs when these kids get around 12. Develop them and get them on the same page sd that when the high school years come around, BOOM, they can step right in and play. I consult with coaches in Florida and Ohio about this same stuff. I know you guys may be down, but do not quit on the kids and most importantly, keep working in the weight room during the season.

  12. Bobby Bowden replaced a Coach Peterson at WVa. Bowden ressurects WV FB goes 42-26 and propels himself to Fl. St.

Dude, you are wayyyyyyyyy off! Let me educate you on WVU Football!

First off, there is no "Coach Peterson"... Jim Carlen was the coach at WVU before Bowden and was actually 10-1 before leaving for Texas Tech. Bowden was the offensive coordinator and actually was an assistant coach at FSU before coming to WVU. Carlen left WVU with a great team and also a great WR in Danny Buggs. Bowden did not really "propel" himself to WVU. In 1974, WVU suffered through a 4-7 season with losses to Richmond, Tulane, and Temple. He (Bowden) also hated the cold Northern weather and wanted to go back to Fla St. when they were courting him after the '74 season. He was on the hot seat in '75 and came through with a 9-3 record, but he lied stating that he wanted to stay at WVU... well after the Peach Bowl win, he contacted the WV governor and asked for permission to talk to FSU. The rest is history. Yeah Bowden had some good years at WVU and is an all-time great coach, he did not ressurect a failing program. Many people in WV still do not like Bowden (probably for leaving) and thats hard to believe (cause he is a fantastic guy), but like anywhere else in D1 college football, you always have 100,000 assistant coaches complaining.

As for Greeneville.... you would be best suited to stay with your #2 in Caine Ballard. He is the guy the kids trust and will play for. If your looking for another big fish, why bother? You guys just lost a great coach over some BS anyways, so why not give Ballard the job? Getting a new coach and scrambling over the summer to possibly change the offense and defense could disrupt an already great team/program.

Caine is able so take the new coach idea off the table!

  13. Interim doesn't mean permanent.....I hope everyone isn't disappointed when they pass him over for a "top tier prospect"... I really don't think he deserves to be jerked around.

Yeah no kidding... typical Greeneville. When Don Woods left Morristown West, an assistant was instantly promoted. Why is this not the case with Greeneville? They have already had Ballard sit out and then later come back, so why risk losing him again? Unless he does not want the head job and I cannot imagine him not wanting it. Ballard is a heckuva coach and man and if Greeneville wants to stop the "bleeding" it has already caused itself, keep Ballard as the head man and stop the nonsense of bringing in people and wasting time. The kids are already in a state of shock, so why do it over the course of the summer and lose players and cause the program to slide?

  14. Chain of command goes THROUGH the principal and ends at Alshie's office. The buck stops there and he's the one who should have been keeping an eye on things.

I will totally agree on that one! Look at all the money and resources that were wasted on "administrative retreats", the year round schooling crock-of-5ht idea, the $56,000 cafe design flaw at the school.... and did they ever get that irrigation problem fixed on the football practice field that was supposed to be "state of the art?"

I think the whole Coach Mac thing was an unique situation where you had deep pockets come in and try to control what went on. Without knowing the whole story, I cannot accurately have a say on what went on there, but obviously the coach EARNED his money and brought championships and even more money into the schools athletic fund while bringing new and a positive energy into the community. I bet there are some totally ticked off parents right now and that will and could possibly affect the football booster program for next season and even future seasons. Even with the high coaching salary, it really got to the faculty. I have heard this from many, but they have also stated that they like Coach Mac. I have never had the pleasure to meet the guy, but he sounds like a heckuva guy and coach. Regardless of what happened or what situation caused the "GHS breakup", two things come into play... #1 - GHS obviously lost a good coach, but #2 if this person was spending money that was not approved or was asked to teach/work or somethng else, then he should have went with it. I have seen teachers get bus licenses, teach classes they are not certified to teach, and do other things to help the school out. Now this may not be the case with the football coach, but obviously something wasn't right (whatever the situation was) and if an administrator stepped in and blew the whistle...... then it was the right thing to do. I do not know the whole tale, but it will come out, but now the sad thing is... there is a black eye on the whole GHS front and it's not good in the public eye and not good for the kids and student-athletes at GHS.

  15. CCHS21 you got burnt man!!!

I would not go that route and say burnt, more like an educational lesson. Heck if this individual would come to Florida, I would give him a free training session or two to show him how a real athlete trains. Obviously with the type of training and the methods that I showed a small handful of athletes in Newport, this guy (cchs21) must of thought that the basic running and lifting was good enough to just get by. All I can do is extend an invitation and let this guy come train with some of the high school players I train now that have already signed scholarships and will be playing at the next level at Miami, Harvard, ECU, Mount Union, South Florida, and Jacksonville. I create speed freaks and people who want to win, dominate, and torch any competition that comes their way. Thats all I tried to do in Newport with some of the CCHS players, show athletes how to train effectively so that they could be predators and not the prey. I got ran off by people who said that they did not need my help and thats fine by me. Problem is.... I have worked with many professional athletes and even NFL teams, so when the adults and coaches cannot come to me directly and ask or advise me to stop working with their players, other than telling their own players that training like a pro athlete is worthless and cannot help........ I guess thats how you win 2 games in 3 years... truth hurts. I want CCHS to do well, but until they can hold players accountable and have some pop and vigor with their offseason workouts, it's going to be hard... even with the new classification. If the winning programs can make athletes, so can CCHS!

cchs21, anytime you would like to go to work, come on down with #13 from your own school and #10 and #85 from Cosby, and even #8 from GP. All will be down here at some point and vacation will be the last thing on their mind.

  16. Ok so explain to me why the entire girls basketball team got suspended and two of the guys. When hollowell was there he took care of suspension and mishaps like this. Would this power not go to coach richards or is this the place where you put the initials DR. in front of someones name and they have the super ego. She is a nice woman but she is the principal go behind closed doors and do your job like jerry ayers did. Let your other 2 assistant princ. do there jobs.

HAHAHA.... I love it! "Go behind closed doors" Thats what g-ville is all about right there. Cover-ups and cowards making decisions. Maybe it's a good thing you have a new prinicpal calling the shots and holding people's feet to the fire. If I was still employed at GHS (and than God I am not!) I think I would have liked working for this "Dr. Stroud".

Bottom line, in the chain of command, even the Athletic Director reports to principal, so until the whole story is out there, the true one, we may all never know the true tale. Obviously there was something that flared up and was brought to attention.

  17. Typical G-Vegas snake pit... I heard about the resignation and I figured it came from the top over some power struggles or some politics. If they (whoever it may be, school board, director of schools, etc..) had the stones to ask for a paycut, I do not understand why the director of schools could take one. Greeneville has lost a lot of good people due to "budget cuts"... Sorry, but Coach Mac produced and took Greeneville to the top, so he deserves whatever the agreement was to pay him. From the recent news of this Stroud principal, sounds like she is not messing around. I wish she was in charge back in the early part of the decade when positive drug tests were swept under the rug and kids were bringing guns and weapons to school. Good luck Devils, you just ran off another good one and you will be scrambling to get someone in by spring practice. The kids and parents are the victims for having this dropped on them at this time.

Best of luck to Coach Mac!

  18. As a current player on the team, Wes Parker...I love that you get on here and dog our football program!! You are not here and involved in the program so you really have no dog in the fight. Im sorry how things happened when you were here. You talk about how we do no offseason workouts yet we have a 4th period class where we speed train and weight train. Also in that 4th period class we have over 50 kids in the class and that isnt all the kids we have playing...All you have done on this site is talk about all the negative things in cocke county and yet again i say you arent here so you really dont have a dog in the fight!!! Why not mention some positives???? As a player i dont believe in all my years in the program I have never heard not one coach say anything about the ideal lineman being 170 pounds!!!! Also i dont think its a bad thing if as a team we go watch another game after our season was over and we ate at hooters with our coaches.......SO WHAT! The season was over and we were just hanging out with our coaches! Also i dont think any of the coaches on our staff are RETARDED like you do!! Also our coaches don have us on some stupid gag order!!!!!! WE CAN GET ON WHAT WE WANT!!!!!! So I am sorry but i think that untill you are here and involved in the new program we are involved in then you shouldnt be talking about us!!!!!!!!!!

Nice for you to take the time and call me out by name... it's ok... I'm famous anyways. With that said, I think it would be fair to ask you your name and your involvement with the CCHS program. Also, I want to know why you obviously never stepped up and attended any of my programs, workouts, clinics, or other things I was assisting other members of your team while I was in the area? For me not to have a "dog in the fight" is way off.... other than being an alumni, a former athlete in 3 team sports at CCHS, a former teacher/coach/trainer, and having wasted a little over a year and a handful of weeks dealing with the school board, athletic director, various coaches, and having my name brought up in the local paper via stories and letters to the editor about my positive envolvement..... I think that would qualify for some type of "dog in the fight". Besides I owe any response or future involvement to the current athletes I have trained at CCHS and for the parents, coaches, and athletes who did support me and my programs.... not any naysayers, people who stated that athletic performance training was "useless and overrated", and especially anyone who thinks the things I did was not in the best interests for their own kids, teammates, and teams at CCHS.

I await your reply sir ("CCHS21")... by the way, there is a speed clinic in Jefferson City on March 14th. Please see that post on this message board. Would be an invaluable resource for you and your teammates for the upcoming season.

  19. BUMP TO TOP!

This clinic would be a great asset for any serious and competitive athlete! I run the same speed clinics and athletic performance enhancement programs down in Southwest, FL and for this resource to be available in east Tennessee... it would be invaluable for ALL athletes including football players!

I will just say this - if any athlete is serious about a sport (and I mean competitive and wanting to improve and be the best) and not doing any physical conditioning, speed and agility improvement, and strength/power development outside of their sport.... guess what... YOU ARE NOW THE MINORITY!

I encourage players and athletes.... heck even weekend warrior types to attend and use the resources at this clinic to improve.

*** I am in no way shape or form associated with the coaches, sponsors, and instructors of this clinic... but I hope this message will be looked at by some that will get their kids or even themselves and teammates there and learn how to not only be a better player, but more of an impact player.

  20. Looks like CCHS is really working pretty hard this offseason. They have workout logs, diet plans, and are keeping up with progress in lifts as well as running. Glad to see effort being put into the offseason program. Work hard guys and try to be competitive out there by playing and working hard.

Bout time they started something.... I will go on record to say that whoever told one of my former athletes up there that an ideal lineman should weigh 170 pounds is just plain retarded. Yeah you do not want offensive big skill players to be comeplete lard tails, but saying they need to be lean and quick would help if you were in a lower classification, not 5A football.

Good luck to CCHS though... I hope some of those kids go down to Knoxville for the UT strength clinic and learn some stuff that can help them.
