  1. Any predictions on kids moving weight classes?

113: Ethan Lampert from Father Ryan wrestled Jacob Bond tough to OT, so could be another 113 to watch.

120: Hudson Frazier from MBA wrestling at 120?

126: Alex Ropski from CBHS wrestling at 126?

152: Hopefully Micah Tisdale from Baylor is back healthy and has a chance to compete.

182: If Jonathan Moore from MBA stays at 182, he will be a tough match for some guys over the next two weeks.

    Anyone else?

Gotcha, I was wondering because I mean you can only have 1 per weight, and since Tran is prob standing at the top of the podium it doesn’t really matter what the JV guy does when wrestling varsity. There’s been many a times through the years when a JV guy at a school is caught behind an absolute stud and can’t go anywhere and has to wait his time. Let’s see how Marchetti does against the 2 and 3 guy(oh wait he got beat pretty badly by the Baylor kid) we all know that in A and D2 after the first few there are many weight classes where the others aren’t all that good.

…and as a back up, he left a Dual State Champion with the rest of the Father Ryan wrestling team.

I wanted to go ahead and get an updated set of rankings out before the state duals this weekend.  This should take into account matches from the region duals (other than FR vs CBHS which hasn't happened yet).  I also went ahead and added in some notes and commentary on results from the previous week's results where they may have factored into rankings.  I am sure there will be plenty of movement following matches this weekend.

    106

    1. Tanner Tran (9, FR)
    2. Axel Ritchie (9, McC)
    3. William (Oliver) Phillips (9, Bay)
    4. Luke Kibblebeck (8, Lake)
    5. Ignatius Smout (11, CBHS)
    6. Luke Brock (9, MBA)

Notes: JD Patton (10, CCS) appears to have shifted down into this weight but only took a forfeit at the weight.  Leaving him at 113 until he gets some matches in.  Luke Brock (9,MBA) beat Bentley Edwards (BB) and slides into the ranking on that win.  Axel Ritchie (McC) pinned Kibblebeck (Lake).

    113

    1. Jacob Bond (10, Bay)
    2. Nolen Hardman (9, BB)
    3. Cash Waymire (9, BA)
    4. JD Patton (10, CCS)
    5. Luke Johns (9, MBA)
    6. Brody Connell (9, McC)

Notes: JD Patton (10, CCS) may be dropping from this weight.  Hardman (BB) pinned Johns (MBA)

    120

    1. Joseph Calvin (11, FR)
    2. Hudson Frazier (10, MBA)
    3. Joseph (Tate) Williams (11, BB)
    4. Jed Pierce (9, McC)
    5. Cole Gumlick (10, Lake)
    6. Hudson Salvaggio (11, CBHS)

Notes: Hudson Frazier (10, MBA) moves down into the weight and picks up wins over Williams (BB) and Gumlick (Lake), 7-1 and 5-3 respectively.  Williams (BB) pinned Gumlick (Lake).  Gumlick (Lake) also dropped a 5-3 match to Jed Pierce (McC) who enters the rankings.

    126

    1. Brody Gobbell (10, FR)
    2. Spencer Reep (11, Lake)
    3. Luke Braman (12, ND)
    4. Chase Hart (10, Bay)
    5. Matt Bryant (10, Good)
    6. Harbor Bent (9, BB)

Notes: Luke Braman (12, ND) moves down from 132, dropping a 13-6 match to Reep (Lake) and pinning Bellet (MBA).  Hart (Bay) dropped a 5-2 match to Pierce (McC) in the dual at 126.  Bryant (Good) won a few matches up at 132 and 138.  Harbor Bent (9, BB) enters the rankings on strength of wins over Bellet (MBA) by fall and Jolly (CCS) 7-3.

    132

    1. Cason Roark (10, FR)
    2. Cameron Helton (10, Lake)
    3. Alex Ropski (12, CBHS)
    4. William (George) Emendorfer (9, Bay)
    5. Andrew Connow (10, PJP)
    6. Braden Ryan (9, McC)

Notes: Cason Roark (FR) hits the mats for the first time this season and takes the #1 spot.  Emendorfer (Bay) pinned Usher (McC, 126) during their dual.

    138

    1. Nathaniel Askew (10, Bay)
    2. Caleb Gumlick (12, Lake)
    3. Carter Rowlett (11, BB)
    4. Mason Butler (10, CBHS)
    5. Bo Donnelly (10, BA)
    6. Eric (Davis) Crawford (11, MBA)

Notes: Gumlick (Lake) beat Rowlett (BB) 9-1 in dual to go with pins over Crawford (MBA) and Bridgman (CCS).  Rowlett (BB) pinned Crawford (MBA) & beat Bridgman (CCS) 17-7.  Butler (CBHS) defeated Donnelly (BA) 2-0.  Askew (Bay) wrestled 145 in dual versus McCallie and picked up a pin over Voiles.

    145

    1. Jay Eversole (10, Lake)
    2. Chancery Deane (10, FR)
    3. Mac Russ (12, MBA)
    4. Connor Payne (11, BB)
    5. Tyson Wolcott (11, FC)
    6. Jack Ward (12, BA)

Notes: Word has it that Paradice has left Baylor so dropping him from the rankings.  Eversole (Lake) defeated Russ (MBA) 6-4 in dual.  Deane (FR) wrestled up to 152 and beat Klindt (MBA) by fall.  Ward (BA) slides into final ranking spot following Paradice's departure.

    152

    1. Ian McGehee (12, MUS)
    2. Ryan (Micah) Tisdale (12, Bay)
    3. Chase Eakes (12,FC)
    4. Sawyer Rutherford (10, FR)
    5. Ryan Comfort (12, GCA)
    6. Ethan Klindt (12, MBA)

Notes: Rutherford wrestled up to 160 in dual and pinned Corby (MBA)

    160

    1. Hunter Sturgill (10, Bay)
    2. Wills Bronson (12, CBHS)
    3. Taylor Wimsatt (11, BA)
    4. Austin (AJ) Johnson (11, BB)
    5. Connor Corby (12, MBA)
    6. Micah Lemaota (12, FR)

Notes: Bronson (CBHS) pinned Wimsatt (BA) in dual.  Johnson defeated Corby (MBA) 11-5 and Dooley (Lake) by fall.  Corby (MBA) defeated Dooley (Lake) by fall. Common opponent info came to light that moved Johnson (BB) and Dooley (Lakeway) over Frankfather (FRA) which pushed Frankfather out of rankings.  Lemaota (FR) has win over Dooley (Lake).

    170

    1. Matt Oberlander (12, FR)
    2. Drake Bowers (11, CBHS)
    3. Odin Phillips (12, Bay)
    4. Kaiden Bates (11, BB)
    5. Logan Mavroff (11, GCA)
    6. Brody Casto (10, Lake)

Notes: Oberlander (FR) beat Tompkins (MBA) 7-2 in dual.  Bates (BB) beat Casto (Lake) 7-6 and Tompkins (MBA) 4-0.  Tompkins (MBA) defeated Casto (Lake) 5-3 but lost to Kyle (CCS) 3-1 SV and Vintrov (ND) 3-2 UTB.  Casto (Lake) beat Kyle (CCS) 9-6 creating a 3-way between Tompkins, Kyle, and Casto in head-to-head.  Casto also beat Vintrov (ND) 8-1.  Mavroff (GCA) is 2-0 versus Kyle (CCS) on season keeping him ahead of the other group.  Kyle (CCS) took a lost to Vintrov (ND) 2-1 in dual but has two wins over him in season.  Casto gets 6th spot out of 3-way tie based on being only one in group without lose to Vintrov (ND).

    2. Elias Franks (10, MBA)
    3. Jonah Bumgarner (10, CCS)

Father Ryan’s #2 at 106 has pinned the #5 and #6 on this list in less than 24 hours.

152 - What Rutherford isn’t beating McGhee nor Tisdale. I actually think Tisdale beats McGhee this year.
145 - That weight could go a lot of different ways. Toughest weight for sure.
132 - Helton wins easily. Don’t think you will see Roark this year.

At 152, McGhee vs Tisdale will be one of the better matches in the State Tournament.

If the above poster’s info about the Baylor 145 is true, then that opens up that weight class in the State Tournament.

Roark made his debut at 132 on Friday night against MBA and got a quick pin. His opponent on Track looks to be incorrect in the match results, so not sure who he actually wrestled.

Quick note on father ryan, Casen Roark would be a difference maker for that team, but is battling an injury.

Summit and Cleveland looked like a one match swing. In another two months both teams may look one match different.

It was a great early season weekend of wrestling in Cleveland. Great venue, and spot for high school wrestling.

Bradley, Cleveland and Summit will be fun to watch all season! Some hammers in the lineup, and a lot of good matches heading into February.

As previously mentioned, Ryan will hope to get a few guys healthy. Casen Roark (State Champ), Sawyer Rutherford (3rd place) and Tim Brunet (4th place) in the State Tournament last year did not wrestle and unfortunately two injuries to starters this weekend. (The forfeits we’re previously mentioned) No excuses in this sport, it is next wrestler up, but also reality they will have to develop depth, and hope the guys are healthy soon. The scheduled is loaded.

This has to be a record or near a record of TN kids ranked.

If Baylor continues to take high school state champions from other states and 4-5 transfers from out of state each year, I would expect the, “Tennessee ranked wrestlers #,” to continue to increase too.

Did any of Baylor’s wrestlers represent the State of Tennessee this off season (other than Mason?) or did they all go back home and wrestle for the states that they were from?

I'm pretty sure the team is voted on by the coaches. If you dont like who made it tell them, or make your own dream team.

    Otherwise it really doesnt matter.

Kudos to all of the kids.

I respect every wrestler on that list (and any kid who chooses the sport) and anyone who spends time on rankings, because it makes for a fun conversation on this board and all of our communities.

I was just surprised a couple of kids didn’t make it based on head to head match ups and state tournament results.

  8. At 120, Calvin Eason from Father Ryan beat Jarvis Little 8-4 in the Finals of the Johnny Drennan Invitational and won a State Championship on one leg after not practicing for a month.

At 220, Gabe Fisher from MBA won his second state championship and just finished 5th at National Preps. Did he and Noah Todd wrestle at any point this season?

Interesting.  Someone want to explain 113 to me?

Freshman Brody Gobbell from Father Ryan beat Owen Gobel 10-4 in the Finals of the Johnny Drennan Invitational and finished 2nd in the State in a tough match against a four time state champ and West Point commitment.

Oh for sure. I went to high school in North Carolina. Son went to high school in TN. My old high just won their 3rd straight dual championship Saturday. The head coach for App St went to my old high school. The Greensboro Coliseum is awesome place to watch the state individual tournament. There some pretty good kids in the state. 2 good kids left the state. Jax Forrest and Joe Sealey. Baylor tried to get a kid named Kage Williams to come there.

Baylor has done a really good job of getting wrestlers from out of the state over the years. They had some out of state hammers again this year!

Absolutely. That program has a bright future.

The growth of the Nolensville is remarkable in that area of Williamson County. There will be a lot of kids in their feeder program soon.

What is the make up of the Knights roster? When Ryan wrestled them at Nolensville the final score was 72-9 (and the Ryan 145 state finalist did not wrestle, which would have more than likely been 6 more).

Did they have guys out or are now healthy and peaking at the right time?

Should be a fun day at the cow palace this weekend!

Best of luck to all of the teams on the Mat!

It was a fun mid week late in the season dual at Wilson Central last night! Ryan was missing three starters (two state finalists at 120 & 182), and WC could have been missing one guy too, but I will let someone with more knowledge of their team and roster confirm.
