  1. The QB is a very capable runner but it did not seem we were relying on the read option as much as the "old days" you are referring to Cap. The Rebels this year are rotating two backs who each look to have a really good combination of power and speed. They are running out of the pistol formation more which is a new look for us. They look like they want to spread the field with 4 wide in twins most sets or occasionally with trips using the 6"5" Comsa, at the single WR to isolate him. I'm sure we can expect a few gadget plays to keep things interesting as well. The Rebels will need to take care of the ball or the Vikings may pull away much like last years game. #3 Headrick returns this year and he had a stellar game at the castle last year.
  2. I'm looking forward to seeing this year's Viking squad. I was very impressed with the team they had grown into by the playoffs last year. They looked very balanced in the game at Mo West. Is there a back this year comparable to Trey Delaney or is it more power like I expect from Sir? Also are they running any power sets with a blocking back or is pretty much only spread? Is Sigmon's replacement kicking all touchbacks? I'll hang up and listen. Good to hear from you Cap. Not many of the old timers left my friend. 04 still carrying the torch high for the Vikings though.
  3. In most of the pictures I see of Adam Mitchell, he is going up and pulling down passes from the high point. I would assume he and Henley work on that to take advantage of his size. For Viking fans, do you know if he has ever played against a team with 2 safeties bigger than him? Like him, South's safeties are also basketball players. If they cover well, we may see a few jump balls during this game.
  4. There is another thread for this game going in the 3A/4A sub forum in case anyone is interested. I think a lot of us are still trying to adjust to South being a 4A now.
  5. They were billed as a running team that would rely on a committee of backs. South shut down the run and Coach Sivert discovered he had a pretty good replacement for the graduated Ty Ryans. They were bogged down on offense until they spread it out. The Rebels were unable to generate much pressure and I'm sure they will work on that this week.
  6. South's run defense was much better than I anticipated last Friday. I like the changes they have made on defense and believe they will be prepared to slow down the Henley to Mitchell combo. I'd look for the Vikes to bust some big runs up the middle with South concentrating on helping out on Mitchell. Both teams will score frequently and any turnover will be costly when most possessions will result in points. South in a big upset displaying a physical running game: 42-41
  7. A new era begins for the Rebels as they enter play reclassified as a 4A school. First up is a non conference challenge by the 5A Chiefs who feature a stable of hard running backs. This one should feature an air assault by South and a grind it out, move the chains attack by the Chiefs. A solid performance by the Rebels could propel them to an outstanding season.
  8. South should have a prolific passing attack. Unfortunately they should also have trouble stopping the run, particularly anything outside the tackles. If the Cyclones take care of the ball, I see them winning this one similar to last season's game. It should be for the conference championship in week #10 which will be fun.
  9. I thought the East boy was next in line. Then somebody told me Josh Holt was running QB at the scrimmage. Caleb would be a natural I would think. I understand they put the ball on the ground a lot during the scrimmage and need to shore that up. Maybe they will platoon QBs this season.
  10. Central cancelled, said their field was too wet. Coach offered to use ours, they said it would be too wet too. I think Coach Fox got wet feet...er ..cold feet.
  11. Is D-B still running the Ga. Tech offense? I figured they would change things up this year after Foreman, Swafford and Barger graduated.
  12. South should have everyone for the scrimmage. I'm guessing D-B may be missing a few key players who are still in baseball or track.
  13. It does to a lot of people at those schools. Don't be such an egotistical ......, well you know.
  14. I haven't heard yet RR. I think a lot of things have been on hold for spring ball because of the SCBOE's threatening proposals. I'll post if I hear something. Keeping with that topic though, I do hope they will schedule two scrimmages with comparable to better programs to challenge the team. Last year's docket of an undermanned Happy Valley and a depleted North squad did not do much to help the team. I would like to see them go against D-B, SH or the Morristown teams now that they won't be playing any of them. I think better teams expose weaknesses much better and should help coaches focus on those areas moving toward and into summer camp. I didn't see any of last spring's scrimmage offense run during South's season last year and it looked very effective against the opposition. I'll admit we weren't testing it against much , but it was hard to understand why it was scrapped once the season started.
  15. 2013 Schedule Aug 23 Cherokee H 30 Tn Hi H Spt 6 Happy Valley A 13 Gate City A 20 Unicoi Co. A 27 Boone A Oct 4 Open 11 East H 18 North A 25 Johnson Co. H Nov 1 Elizabethton H
  16. Good selection. Will he stick with the same offense or install something of his own? I would like to see what Mitchell looks like running it a little. I bet using him as a lead blocker or as an occasional RB would be fun to watch.
  17. I'm just trying to stir up a little fun for you WaCo. These guys will think they have a puncher's chance this year.
  18. 1)Science Hill 2)Tennessee High 3)Dobyns-Bennett 4)Daniel Boone 5)Sullivan Central 6)David Crockett 7)Volunteer
  19. RebRaider should be happy lol. If this comes to pass they may have trouble getting kids to play. Only 9 games and no playoffs is a hard sell.
  20. Who said anything about dominate? Did anyone from anywhere even remotely suggest that idea? Did you dream that up? I'm confused by your comment.. South will be challenged to tackle Ethan Thomas any time he touches the ball. North has been gutted , but they will always be scrappy.
  21. I think you played Happy Valley and North early to mid-season. So it would be something new actually. Week 10 match-ups of the top 2 in conference set up the potential for high stakes playoff games that are quick repeats. I guess it remains to be seen if South can live up to those expectations. lol It is a good week 10 match up though considering it is 18-16 all time. That is a pretty good rivalry!!!
  22. I believe the week 10 game will be with South. That would set up nicely for conference championship and play-off seeding every year. The negative would be they could be playing each other again 2 to 3 weeks later in the play-offs. That would seem strange.
