Look pantherfan 2000 used to be a coach at portland so excuse him along with squatman and footbal fanatic09. They are just talking alot of smack i know for a fact that they coached at Portland ive been a panther fan my whole life so i will apologise for them. Dude! Get over your paranoia that everyone posting about the Panthers is a former coach. I am not a coach nor have I ever been. And nobody is asking for an apology so stop apologizing for other posters. You're taking this stuff WAY too seriously.

This is one of the few games that Portland is counting on to put in the w column. Station Camp is down this year and the Panthers will take advantage of that and score their first offensive touchdown of the season and then some. Obviously the Bison are having trouble with their offense as well having only scored 3 last week. This game will be a hard fought defensive game. In the end, Portland will come out on top 14-7. Thank you for pointing out that just about all of PHS athletics has gotten bad. That's what I was telling one of the Portland faithful just the other day but they refuse to face facts. It's such a football town they have forgotten the rest of their teams and nobody cares that they stink too. The basketball team only won about 7 games this past year while the baseball team only won 3 and has gone 0'fer in their district the last TWO years. And now they're moving up in district - way out of their league. It will be a joke. The fact of the matter is the football team really has been falling off for several years. The last time they did anything impressive was in 2001 when they went like 12-1. They managed to barely make the playoffs while still in 3A because there were so many crappy schools in their region. The first year they went to 4A, they came in 4th in the region only to get KILLED by Hillsboro in Round 1. Hence the exodus of Roger Perry. He knew they couldn't compete so he left because he wasn't about to stay around and lose. I feel sorry for the new coaching staff. I honestly don't think they knew what they were signing up for. They were somehow disillusioned by Portland's former glory, the facilities, and the old fogies in town who still think the Panthers can beat teams like Gallatin.

Word around town is the Chad Perry (currently coaching in GA) is really interested in the job. He's a WHS grad.

I'm glad that Coach Beavers took the job at SCHS. From what I heard, there were multiple head FB coaches in the Middle TN area recruiting Beavers as an assistant coach. He's a great guy with Christian values and will make a huge impact at SCHS both as a coach and as a positive role model for many SCHS students. Portland lost BIG when Beavers left PHS. I'm afraid that many of the asst. PHS FB coaches will move on somewhere else, too. Those guys were great teachers and great coaches from what I've heard from kids who played for them and had them in class. It will be impossible, in my opinion, to obtain such a great group of men who are so dedicated to PHS (since most were PHS grads from what I've been told). I don't blame those guys for moving on because there's not much talent at Portland to work with--especially when competing in the large class next year.

Maybe with the right coaches RBS could beat Maryville (LOL!!). I sort of feel sorry for the new Portland HC. If he wants to make a name for himself as a successful head FB coach, Portland is definitely not the place to start. . .at least not for the next 5 or 6 years. Being the 3rd smallest school in large class next year is a BIG disadvantage for PHS, so it really doesn't matter who the head FB coach is. The future is BLEAK!

New coach is quoted in the local newspaper stating that "you don't have to have athletes to win." Any comments on this?

Rumor is that the prospective new head football coach is an HHS grad & has had built a successful program in Alabama.

I heard that the coach was to be named at the end of December of the first of January.
