  1. I think that the idea is a good one, but as several on here have mentioned, the end result this year has not been that great. Like all things, I would expect it to get better in time. It will be up to those in charge to continue to try and seek out quality people to become officials and make sure that they are fully prepared to handle it.

That said, I would not not hold my breath... :popcorneater:

  2. Apparently the TSSAA has made a schedule change in the Division II AA State Tournament, and to my knowledge, nobody in West TN was notified.

The original plan called for State First Round Tourney to be played the 17th, followed by the Quarterfinals on the 24th, with the Semifinals and Finals being played in Murfreesboro the following Thursday and Friday.

Today, I heard that it has changed, and I confirmed via the TSSAA website calendar. Here is what I understand it to be....

    - Middle/East will have a tourney on the weekend of the 17th (not confirmed). Someone mention that you can't have a Regional Tournament. You can, but it will count as if you were playing another tournament.

    - First Round Matches will be played on the 24th. 1st and 2nd seeds in both regions will have a bye for this round.

    - Quarterfinals will join the Semis and Finals in the Boro, starting on Wednesday and ending on Friday in the single elimination format.

I assume that this is a money decision, as it will add 4 more teams coming to the Boro, thus increasing revenue for both the city and for the TSSAA via entry fees. There is not information of this change on the website nor the TSSAA twitter account(s) in typical TSSAA fashion. In fact, their website still has a description of the old format. :roflol:

  3. Briarcrest - 2

    Hutchison -3

Very fast paced game to watch with plenty of opportunities on both sides. Some defensive mis-communication caused Briarcrest to give away a half time lead. :bored:Briarcrest had some excellent opportunities that went just side or to hands. Hutchison had a lot of speed up top and didn't take any chances defensively.

I agree, but the Hutchison goalie played a really good game and made a few tough plays.

It was a beautiful night for soccer!

  4.

Funny thing about hiding in the bushes waiting to pounce on a targeted victim......some smaller,

thought to be weaker, opponent slips up and takes you out. Gotta play the tough teams to

really know, and they are all ahead of you from this point on. :D

Following the loss to St. Agnes, we did away with on the field practice and made the girls do nothing except pump iron while ingesting large amounts of steroids. So far, so good. :D

  5. If you recall my original point, I said that I thought Briarcrest was overranked and St. B's underranked. I still believe that. Head to head, they certainly proved that by beating Briarcrest 4-2. You needn't take that as your own personal insult, because I'm quite sure you have nothing to do with Briarcrests's successes or failures. Perhaps Hutchinson is underranked too. Oh, and by the way, you shouldn't assume that all those who post positive comments about a particular team are affiliated with it.

There is not a school in the TSSAA named Hutchinson. :D

  6. Congrats to all of these young ladies as well as the others that I am sure are just as worthy.

I think that it is wonderful to see two girls from this class going to join the University of Tennessee. UT had been without a homegrown talent on their squad for about 7 or 8 years until 2 years ago when they added Harrison. They followed that up with the addition of Rebekah Smith and Jasmine Brown last season. It is my understanding that all three are doing well and should be contributors for the Lady Vols this season.

Going from 0 to 5 in a span of 3 years (roughly 1/3 of the team) is a testament to the quality of growth in Volleyball in the state.

Check, actually Ann Mullins from Father Ryan was on the Tennesee Volleyball team for one or two seasons. This was approximately four years ago. :popcorneater:

My apologies to Ann. I knew there was a young lady from Farragut there around 2000 when I was there, but injuries never allowed her to get on the court. Can't say that I kept the closest of tabs on their roster until last year when Rebekah committed. When Rebekah committed last season, they made mention of something about it getting TN girls. Now that I think back on it, it may be the first time that they have more than one TN girl @ the same time....again, my apologies to Ann.

  7. Congrats to all of these young ladies as well as the others that I am sure are just as worthy.

  8. Its worth noting that their #1 RB, McBride, who is has had D1 offers and won either the 100m or 200m track state title last year, has yet to play due to injury.

I heard he fractured a shoulder before the season, but is expected back in the next few weeks.

I actually thought that I heard that he might be back this week. It would have been a tough game to comeback to though. Maybe next week.

  9. Great win tonight for MUS, I guess last year wasn't such a fluke after all :thumb: The schedule just keeps on coming with Memphis East up next week, they put 68 on White Station this evening.

**edit** Well now WMC 5 says White Station put 68 on East, I guess it doesn't really matter as MUS plays them both.

Reading the comments section in the Commercial Appeal online, you would think that MUS did not stand a chance.

White Station put up 68 a week after getting blanked by CBHS who turned around and got blanked by Whitehaven, who had previously been routed by none other than....wait for it...White Station.

If the Owls play their game and can stay healthy, they should not have many problems for the rest of the regular season.

  10. Crazy ending

    MUS 20

    OB 15

With just over 4 mins..Brunetti picks up a first down at opponents 20. MUS takes him out, I am guessing to avoid injury, and next snap sails over backups head. OB scores 2 plays later. MUS blocks extra point attempt. OB recovers ensuing onside kick and score a play later. MUS stops 2 point conversion. MUS recovers the 2nd onside kick and Brunetti converts a 3 and 1 to run out the clock.

  11. Briarcrest should be added just above Hutchison.

They defeated Hutchison the other evening. Hutchison was missing some players with swine flu, but regardless, Braircrest played very well and deserves to be listed amongst the teams listed.

I believe they also knocked off SBA at the Collierville tourney.

  12. Awesome.

And the excuses are already flying on the MS message boards.

Despite the fact that they gave SP the ball without at least measuring late in the game. Probably the worst passing performance I have seen by Brunetti, but he got it done.

Worth noting that the MUS players carried the TN State Flag around the field after victory

  13. Briarcrest should have an interesting weekend in Oak Ridge....we have three out with flu and two out with injuries that will not be making the trip! Great news is that this gives some play time to the Freshmen!

I don't think that the flu cases are H1N1 though...

However.....to Oak Ridge, Ravenwood, Independence, and Beech....I wouldn't mark us too closely...... :popcorneater:

That will have to be in the running for quote of the season. :roflol:

  14. I doubt very seriously if the South Panola players will over look MUS. Let's not forget that MUS is the team with the higher national ranking according to ESPN, they are the team that won a ring last year, they are the team with the longer winning streak of the two, and they are the team who some say has the #1 dual threat QB in the entire country. This is the first game all year where I feel the South Panola players will come out focused and stay focused for the entire game. I was at the MUS/OB game last year(MUS's stadium is unreal for a high school venue) and although OB doubled MUS in total yardage and limited Brunetti(sp) to something like 20 yards passing MUS capatialized on every mistake that OB made and gutted out an impressive victory. What made it even more impressive is that OB had just knocked off Pahokee down in Florida the week prior. It's funny because i got banned from the Florida message board because i said Florida went 0-3 versus Mississippi last year when you consider that Olive Branch knocked off power Pahokee, South Panola beat 6A power Opopka, and Ole Miss was the only team that beat Florida...lol Needless to say that statement didn't sit too well with 99% of the Floridians.

I like the part about Mississippi beating the Gators, but S. Panola did not beat a Florida power. Teams like Miami NW, STA, and Lakeland are the real Florida powers. Apopka was probably top 30 in Florida and Pahokee was blowing OB out and got too confident in the second half. However, OB took advantage of the lackadaisical attitude Pahokee had and made a great comeback. The Tigers and Owls will have a fantastic game and I wish good luck to both teams.

And the fact that Pahokee did not have a field goal kicker, so they routinely went for 2 and on 4th down in the red zone.

  15. We played GPS on Saturday afternoon. It was our 3rd game in less than 24 hours and their 2nd so I am sure tired legs played a little part, but it was a good game. We had multiple chances, but could just not finish. The keeper seemed young and nervous. They seemed to rely on 3 girls to set up and execute their offense. The goal we gave up was a defensive blunder on our part. Saw a lot of young faces and inexperience out there.
