    9AA

This is exactly right. CPA must stay in a full or half court 1-3-1 zone to beat the quicker teams. They are SLOWER than they should be in the 4, 5, & 6 slots. Don't understand it though. Smaller is usually quicker. CPA must have mentally overlooked Ezel Harding last night. But even if they didn't, turnovers and missed free throws will be any teams undoing. Trouble for CPA is that everyone knows them. They need some surprises to step up. I understand Corbin Taylor was that "surprise" last night.

    9AA

My prediction is that CPA will find a way to the state tourney. Miller is starting to be his usual brilliant self, a healthy Anderson is going to get stronger and stronger, and Z is going to realize that this is IT. I'd like to see him leave it all out on the floor from here on out. What is likely is to happen is that you'll see the big three for CPA start beating their chests all at the same time and step it up to the next level. If that happens, get ready for some firepower. Throw in some big shots by the role players and you'll have a run to STATE. Either way, it's soon to be the end of an era for CPA. A great run!!!!

    9AA

I to am a CPA fan and certainly agree that district 9AA is much improved this year. I think when it comes the other district teams playing CPA, it really is obvious that they know this CPA team very well and know how to defend against the weapons that CPA brings. So far, we've seen the other coaches prepare their teams better than ever to play against the big three of Miller, Mason, and Anderson. Having said that, trust me when I say that it will be the 4-5-6 players that will make the difference in the post season. Lately Will Chapman has been hitting huge shots that have been game changers. Matt Zelnick and Marshall Ellson have come to play as well on given nights. If these guys continue to step up, then CPA may run the district. The biggest concern for CPA is defensive speed. They must improve defensively to go deep in March. Offense will likely take care of itself. Most teams hurt CPA with dribble penetration that end in a mid range jump shot. That's a result of getting burned on the perimeter. If you get closer to the rim, Z is there to meet you. I challenge the rest of the team to step up and focus on "D". If you're slow in the man to man then you must play zone more often. I like the 1-3-1 or 1-2-2 zone they play occasionally. Most teams have a hard time with it. With David Anderson getting back from his injury the defense should improve. Lispscomb is playing hard and is having a lot of success. I'd say that they have as good a shot at it as anyone. Should be exciting!!!!
  4. For Lipscomb, I agree that Carter Sanderson shot the ball very well but I think that Caleb Simpson creates shots more consistently than anyone else. Both are excellent players though. If they don't have the "green light" then someone is crazy. For CPA, a healthy David Anderson is one of the best defenders you'll see at the high school level. That's why Lipscomb will need a lot more than one or two players to beat CPA. That is absolutely true of CPA as well. Miller and Mason won't be able to do it by themselves. These two teams must have other players step up to win deep in the season.
  5. Another epic battle between David Lipscomb and CPA! Z, Miller, and Anderson were back together again and ended up with the win this time around. Zelnick and Chapman step up to fill in the gaps with absolutely HUGE shots in the second half. Credit to Lipscomb for another great game that could have gone their way. Caleb Simpson is a great talent and had another great night for Lipscomb. The District 9AA tourney will likely be between these two teams. East Lit could appear as well to spoil it for someone.
  6. I couldn't agree more. It will probably take a lot more than Z and Miller for CPA. Lipscomb has their number and knows how to play it. It won't be easy.
  7. Let's not forget that the overtime in the district tourney last year was due to Lipscomb holding the ball most of the game. Not really a game that would indicate what the score should have been based on the talent on the floor. On the other hand, it was double overtime all the same. Lipscomb missed two point blank layups to lose that game. I predict that if Z and Miller come to play and a couple of others hit the shots they get.......this game could very well not be close in CPAs gym. I say CPA by 12.
  8. So let the banter begin. Who wins this one after Lipscomb wins the first one this year in OT? My guess is that Lipscomb will have to have a pretty amazing night to beat CPA again. I don't think it will happen but it's been a strange season for CPA so far. Should be a good one. You can bet the CPA seniors will be ready to play in their house.
  9. Couldn't agree more about the two CPA seniors being missed, Kyle Reeves and Jake Peterson. They were both 6'3",could score and made other players on their team better. A 07-08 season to remember for sure. But let's talk about this year, kudos to CPA for winning a game that could have been a loss. A much improved Ezell Harding team that refused to quit and kept hitting big shots. CPA wins anyway with Anderson hurt, Z out, and Miller triple teamed. Congrats to Matt Zelnick for a huge game on both ends of the floor. CPA needed that from him. A big three and huge free throws down the stretch from Will Chapman. Big free throws also from Taylor Akers and some great ball handling under a lot of heat in crunch time. You don't see many freshmen in a game like that. Two KEY three pointers from Marshall Ellson who rarely shoots. This is all good. CPA is now a better team for having played this game. Also, a very poorly called game. Whatever..........way to go CPA.
  10. CPA wins a key game tonight against a very tough East Lit. team that caused most of CPAs 25 turnovers with very sticky defense and tough double teams. East Lit. also shot the ball very well from downtown but.....to no avail against a Z Mason who came to play tonight. No one there to stop him unless you triple team him or tackle him. Hunter Miller was also excellent even while being triple teamed and mugged most of the night. But.......credit to a tough East Lit team who will win a lot of games this year. They don't have a star but they go at least 8 or 9 deep with very little difference in talent. Huge threes from #23 on East Lit. CPA is clearly still searching a consistent lineup without David Anderson but the upperclassmen came to play in the second half with solid play from Will Chapman and Corbin Taylor. Big free throws from both and a huge three from Chapman at a key moment. Solid play from freshmen Taylor Akers who will could challenge to man the CPA point next year. CPA is still the team to beat and will likely advance to "State" if they can get Anderson back in the lineup but 9AA should beware of East Lit. They'll press you the whole time and create havoc. You better be able to handle the ball.
  11. Made it to this great 9AA game. What a great matchup and rivalry. That's what high school ball is all about. I've been hearing that CPA will make a run at the state title for months now. What I saw last night will not get that done even though they do have the talent in the key postions. After that, they don't have much to rely on. Turnovers and missed free throws lost the game for CPA just the same as I saw against BA on Saturday. Huge 3s and nasty D won the game for Lipscomb in overtime. CPA is going to have to take a gut check in order to win the district again. David Anderson for CPA looks to be missed more than previously thought. Evan Webb a big loss for Lipscomb as well. My guess, Lipscomb-CPA will likely be the District game to watch from here on out.
  12. There is no excuse for "lack of effort" when all the other members of the team are working as hard as they can. If a player doesn't want to "bring it", then sit him down and let him decide what he really wants. Win or lose.... CPA needs to get back to beating their chests and having fun. That includes the coaches.
  13. CPA loses tonight by 10. Ugly loss to a BA team who played harder and was shooting well. CPA acted like they didn't want to be there. CPA also had David Anderson on the bench with an injury. Thad outplayed Z Mason on both ends with less talent and more effort. Free throw line was not going well for CPA either. Go figure?
  14. I've seen CPA play three times this year and the simple fact is that CPA has not really replaced the seniors from last season. Not sure who they were. They will be fine with the talent they have this year. No panic.
